“mr. tang, what are they digging on the reservoir side?”

during lunchtime, lin chao sat down beside tang rui and asked curiously.

since the control equipment and robots of the red lotus construction project started working, lin chao had been paying attention.

he didn’t need to hide anything from tang rui; he could just ask directly.

“a rocket launch platform.”

after taking a bite of his chicken leg, tang rui replied.

a rocket launch platform?

that didn’t make sense. rocket launch platforms needed a foundation, but there was no need to dig such a deep pit.

lin chao expressed his doubt.

“it’s more conspicuous on the surface. putting it underground is fine; after all, it’s still underground, and it doesn’t affect the launch.”

no, wait a minute.

a rocket launch platform underground? wasn’t that a missile silo? rockets aren’t launched underground.

“mr. tang, are you trying to research two kicks?” (a term for missiles among military enthusiasts)

“don’t make baseless claims; it’s a rocket launch platform.”

lin chao rolled his eyes and thought, “okay, it’s whatever you say.”

after finishing lunch, lin chao returned to his office and reported the situation to his superiors.

it wasn’t surprising at all that tang rui wanted to research missiles; the technology he had acquired from the russians alone was enough to pique interest.

this morning, he even downloaded research materials on rockets from the national database, including data on xigong university’s feitian-1, which had the world’s top modal transformation rocket engine technology. if tang rui weren’t interested in missiles, there would be no need to download all this information.

so, after hearing the news, his superiors didn’t stop tang rui but simply reminded lin chao to keep a close watch.

missiles were not something to take lightly; you could build them, but you couldn’t deploy them.

if tang rui ever had a bad day and decided to launch two rockets to make some noise, that would be a disaster.

given tang rui’s technical expertise, if he decided to do it, he could create them. then you’d have one rocket called “hiroshima’s love” and another called “dreams of nagasaki.” it would become a major incident.

so, in the following days, lin chao didn’t sit in his office. he spent his time wandering around the reservoir.

tang rui, on the other hand, wasn’t affected. once he had finished reviewing all the materials and fully understood them, he began designing rocket engines, starting with small solid rocket engines.

no missile could function without a rocket engine; it was the foundation of missiles. some people were unaware of the difference between solid and liquid rocket engines.

some even thought that solid rocket engines used solid fuel, which was absurd.

in reality, a solid rocket engine had the fuel directly installed at the back of the rocket, ignited using an igniter, creating thrust when needed. these engines were simple to manufacture and only required igniting the propellant during launch, without the need for additional control systems.

the reason why manned spaceflight and launch vehicles didn’t use solid rocket engines was that they were like runaway trains; once ignited, they couldn’t be controlled or shut down. this lack of thrust control and the inability to restart the engines made them impractical for space applications.

“red lotus, create one according to this blueprint.”

“sure, master. are we only making the engine without the casing?”

“yes, create the engine first and prepare it for testing.”

this was tang rui’s first time working on such a project. though theoretically sound and backed by simulations from red lotus, there could still be issues when used practically. so, this time, he decided to build one and conduct testing before moving forward.

“master, there’s a message from the office. mr. yu from huawei wants to visit you.”

“what? mr. yu from huawei?” tang rui was momentarily surprised.

“yes, they sent a letter stating that.” red lotus replied.

“alright, let them come. please respond.” tang rui nodded and didn’t refuse. his initial success and substantial income had come from huawei, so he couldn’t turn them away if they wanted to visit. however, he wondered about the purpose of huawei’s visit.

“understood, master. do you want me to investigate huawei’s situation?”

“no need, we’ll find out soon enough.”

the next day, mr. yu from huawei arrived on his own. tang rui welcomed him at the company’s entrance. after a brief exchange and mutual business compliments, they finally discussed the main issue.

“mr. tang, the main reason 1 am here is to secure several patents from your company.”

“which patents does mr. yu want?”

tang rui asked curiously.

“here’s a list of the technologies we’re interested in. please take a look, mr. tang.” mr. yu took out a document from his bag, listing various patent technologies.

tang rui took a look at the list and was a bit puzzled. many of the technologies were unfamiliar to him, and they didn’t belong to his company. what was going on?

“mr. yu, are you sure you have the correct information?”

“no, we’ve confirmed with the patent office. all these technologies are registered under your company’s name.”

after listening, tang rui connected with red lotus and had it investigate.

only then did he realize that his company had acquired numerous patents.

while they seemed like many, they were merely broken-down versions of a single patent, created to build a patent barrier.

most of these patents were related to graphene’s applications in microelectronics, various electronic components, optics, electromagnetic fields, and signals.

seeing this, tang rui understood. these patents were likely design drawings he had uploaded to the database, including those for drones, mechanical dogs, and graphene-related materials.

the confidential aspects were locked down, but technologies that could be transferred for civilian use were registered under the company’s name, forming a patent barrier.

“these technology licenses are not a problem.”

tang rui agreed after understanding the situation.

“thank you, mr. tang. i also have another request; we need your company’s assistance in developing a 3d spatial positioning algorithm.”

“a 3d spatial positioning algorithm? what is it for? 3d mapping or scanning simulation?”

“neither. it’s for use in wearable devices to calculate 3d spatial positioning from images captured by cameras.”

image algorithm? converting 2d to 3d? 3d spatial positioning?

“may 1 ask, what is huawei planning to do with this technology?”

“there’s nothing secretive about it. we’re planning to develop a game similar to

pokemon go, but with augmented reality..”
