Devouring Evolution: Devouring Nuclear Bombs at the Start

36: Chapter 36 Eighteen Battles Against the Giant ScorpionEighteen hovered in the Sky, staring at the massive scorpion tail approaching from a distance, its eyes filled with vigilance.

It had originally wanted to give Lin Sheng one last small gift before heading home.

So, Eighteen brought Lin Sheng to the place with the most abundant energy in the vicinity.

However, it hadn’t expected that the prey it chose would possess such means.

Eighteen’s attitude couldn’t help but become serious.

”Du du!”

The Giant Scorpion had arrived at the battlefield, and the sounds it made reached the ears of Lin Sheng and Eighteen.

”So big.”

[Body Length: 2,133 meters; powerful Mental Strength; body fluids are highly corrosive; primary attack method is firing Nuclear Energy Rays from the tail.]

”Eighteen is in some danger.”

After learning the basic information about the Giant Scorpion, Lin Sheng couldn’t help but worry about Eighteen’s safety.

The Giant Scorpion’s body was 600 meters longer than Eighteen’s, and its Mental Strength was also very powerful.

Although it didn’t have any means of mental attack, its powerful Mental Strength alone could resist a large portion of Eighteen’s attacks.

Compared to the Giant Scorpion, Eighteen’s advantage was its ability to fly.

Although the Giant Scorpion couldn’t fly, it had anti-air capabilities.

That previous Nuclear Energy Ray had made Eighteen howl in pain.

Lin Sheng stared unblinkingly at the distant battlefield. Although he was worried about Eighteen, he knew that Eighteen was a highly intelligent creature.

It wouldn’t fight a battle it wasn’t sure of winning.

If Eighteen really had no way to deal with this Giant Scorpion, Lin Sheng didn’t think Eighteen would be foolish enough to rush in and throw its life away.

As Lin Sheng expected, after discovering that mental attacks were not very effective against the Giant Scorpion, Eighteen stopped its mental assault.

Seeing Eighteen stop its attack, the Giant Scorpion shook its pair of large pincers toward the Sky provocatively.

Facing the Giant Scorpion’s provocation, Eighteen in the Sky remained dismissive.

Only lower lifeforms would lose their minds over another creature’s provocation. For a high-level lifeform like Eighteen, it only thought about how to efficiently deal with the provocateur when faced with a challenge.

But if there was no way to solve it, as a highly intelligent lifeform, running away wasn’t shameful either.

However, Eighteen clearly had no intention of fleeing.

Lin Sheng suddenly noticed that at some point, the ”aura” around Eighteen’s body seemed to have undergone some changes.

Lin Sheng wasn’t sure what exactly this change was, but he could clearly sense it.

[Eighteen uses Electromagnetic Force to generate an Electromagnetic Shield around its body.]

Lin Sheng understood.

When he previously learned that Eighteen could slightly manipulate Electromagnetic Force and Gravity, he had simply thought Eighteen only used these two forces for space travel.

But now he realized that the fundamental forces of the universe had more than just one or two uses.

With the enhancement of the Electromagnetic Shield, Eighteen dove toward the Giant Scorpion.

”Zi zi.”

With the protection of the Electromagnetic Shield, the Nuclear Energy Ray hitting Eighteen only produced a ”zi zi” sound and failed to cause any substantial damage.

”Du du?”

Seeing its attack suddenly fail, the Giant Scorpion was stunned for a moment. However, it quickly raised its giant pincers, intending to give the diving Eighteen a heavy blow.

But just as Eighteen was about to touch the Giant Scorpion, it suddenly made a sharp turn.

While the Giant Scorpion was dazed by its pincers hitting nothing, a powerful electromagnetic pulse, invisible to the naked eye, radiated outward with Eighteen as the center.

”Du!”

”Awoo!”

Two screams, one loud and one soft, echoed throughout the battlefield.

The loud one was the Giant Scorpion’s scream, while the one from the periphery was Lin Sheng’s.

Eighteen’s move was an indiscriminate attack; it didn’t just harm the Giant Scorpion, even Lin Sheng on the outskirts suffered significant damage.

Even at the edge of the battlefield, Lin Sheng felt as if his internal organs were about to be burned to ashes.

[Eighteen used an ultra-high intensity electromagnetic pulse. This is an area-of-effect attack that does not distinguish between friend and foe.]

Lin Sheng retreated while keeping his eyes fixed on the situation in the field.

Eighteen’s electromagnetic pulse had severely injured the Giant Scorpion. A large amount of thick, gelatinous substance poured out from its mangled body, making it look incredibly pathetic.

But the consumption of this move was not small either, and Eighteen’s condition didn’t look too good.

Lin Sheng noticed that Eighteen had started using its wings to fly.

If this move hadn’t cost much, Eighteen wouldn’t have needed to fly in such a primitive way as flapping its wings.

”Zheng!”

Eighteen had no intention of giving the Giant Scorpion time to catch its breath.

It dove toward the Giant Scorpion from the air once again.

This time it was a direct dive; Eighteen planned to engage in melee combat with the Giant Scorpion.

”Qiang!”

The moment Eighteen’s claws made contact with the Giant Scorpion, the ear-piercing sound of friction nearly deafened Lin Sheng.

[In close-quarters combat, both Eighteen and the Giant Scorpion have their own advantages.

Although Eighteen is smaller than the Giant Scorpion, it has the advantage of being agile and having many body parts that can be used for attacking.

On the other hand, the Giant Scorpion possesses a hard carapace, making it difficult for Eighteen to break its defense. Furthermore, Eighteen’s Electromagnetic Shield can only negate energy attacks and is useless against physical attacks.]

Lin Sheng analyzed the battle from the side.

The scene temporarily fell into a stalemate.

Just then, one of the Giant Scorpion’s massive pincers suddenly clamped onto one of Eighteen’s wings.

With a ”crunch,” the Giant Scorpion forcefully tore a wing right off Eighteen’s body.

”Awoo!”

Eighteen howled in pain, the physical agony making it difficult to maintain its Electromagnetic Shield.

Seizing the opportunity, the Giant Scorpion fired a Nuclear Energy Ray at Eighteen.

”Boom!”

”Awoo!”

This ray was clearly much more powerful than the previous ones. When it hit Eighteen, the area of impact instantly became charred and scorched.

Lin Sheng wanted to use his out-of-body consciousness to persuade Eighteen to leave, but just as he was about to do so, he suddenly noticed the look in Eighteen’s eyes as it watched the Giant Scorpion.

It was the look one gives a corpse. Eighteen had shown this same look before when capturing the Eight Immortals Table and the Honeycomb Monster.

Eighteen wasn’t a fool; it wouldn’t put itself in a life-or-death situation without regard. Therefore, Lin Sheng decided to wait and see.

In the field, Eighteen activated its Electromagnetic Shield again. It found an opportunity to take flight once more, flying into the air a few hundred meters away from the Giant Scorpion.

This distance wasn’t far; the Giant Scorpion could reach it just by moving its tail.

Looking at the little bug that seemed to be in its death throes, the Giant Scorpion launched a tail spine attack directly.

Facing this attack, Eighteen did not dodge.

It merely opened its mouth slightly, and a milky-white snake-like air current spat out from its mouth.
