Devouring Evolution: Devouring Nuclear Bombs at the Start

4: Chapter 4 Everything Can Evolve PointsAfter taking a few experimental flights in the rainforest, Lin Sheng was quite satisfied with the three pairs of wings he had just acquired.

At least he could fly now.

Even if this flight looked more like floating in the air.

Looking at the remaining 4,775 evolution points in his account, Lin Sheng pondered for a moment.

”System, do you have any suggestions on how to use these evolution points?”

Lin Sheng asked the system tentatively, though he didn’t really expect it to give him an answer.

After all, he still didn’t know if this thing was capable of thinking.

To Lin Sheng’s surprise, however, the system actually responded.

The system’s answer was simple.

[You can save them; they will be useful later.]

Hearing the mechanical voice in his ear, Lin Sheng felt somewhat astonished.

The system said the evolution points could be saved, which meant that once he had enough, there might be other uses?

Thinking of this, Lin Sheng followed up:

”Then System, what’s the use of saving evolution points?”

After asking, Lin Sheng waited expectantly for the system’s reply.

However, this time the system remained silent and did not answer his question.

Lin Sheng didn’t press the matter further.

The fact that the system could give him advice was already beyond his expectations; he didn’t expect this dog system to tell him everything it knew.

Next, Lin Sheng had a goal.

And that was to save up some evolution points first.

He hadn’t thought about exactly how many to save.

But he felt that since the system said evolution points would be useful later, it should provide a prompt once his points reached a certain level.

...

In the rainforest, a creature with three pairs of transparent wings and a body resembling a lizard was searching for its prey.

The previous feast had made Lin Sheng feel that obtaining evolution points was a very easy task.

However, after hunting for a while, Lin Sheng discovered that his thinking was completely wrong.

The reason he had been able to hunt those small creatures before was entirely because they were blinded by the immediate benefits, thus ignoring the threats around them.

Now, without bait, Lin Sheng’s attempt to hunt those sneaky ones was, simply put, almost impossible.

Those Little Things were even more cautious than Lin Sheng.

At even the slightest disturbance, they would flee desperately.

Perhaps this was the survival rule of this era.

Lin Sheng had also entertained the idea of hunting creatures larger than himself.

But as everyone knows, this era was almost entirely filled with insects, and at the same size, insects were nearly invincible beings.

Because of this, Lin Sheng’s rare attempts to hunt large creatures had all been unsuccessful.

If Lin Sheng hadn’t had wings, his body might have already become dessert for some large insect.

”What on earth should I do?”

Lin Sheng wandered aimlessly through the rainforest with a dejected expression.

He was hungry now, very hungry.

Perhaps due to the ”Devour” talent, Lin Sheng didn’t need to digest his food at all.

This was a bug-level talent during certain times, but right now, it was deeply tormenting Lin Sheng.

Because he processed food so quickly, he would also feel hunger very soon.

The hunger had lasted for two days, and Lin Sheng felt that if not for the support of the Immortal Consciousness talent, he might have already fainted from starvation.

”No, I can’t keep suffering like this.”

Lin Sheng suddenly made a decision.

Although he wouldn’t die of hunger thanks to the Immortal Consciousness talent.

But he didn’t want to experience this painful sensation for even another second.

Lin Sheng turned his gaze toward the unknown low ferns and shrubs nearby.

Using both claws, he began digging directly at the roots and stems of those plants.

Some small creatures were unearthed by Lin Sheng; without even looking, he stuffed them all into his mouth.

Even if it only brought in one or two evolution points, it was better than nothing.

When a small low fern was dug up, Lin Sheng didn’t hesitate and swallowed the fern in one gulp.

The sudden notification sound for evolution points made Lin Sheng pause.

His mouth hung slightly open, wondering if he was having auditory hallucinations from hunger.

Swallowing a plant gives evolution points too?

Lin Sheng was instantly invigorated.

Around him, the thing he lacked least was plants.

If he could swallow all these plants, wouldn’t that be...

Lin Sheng didn’t dare to imagine how many evolution points he would obtain.

Open mouth, bite down, tear, swallow.

...

Lin Sheng kept repeating these actions.

After an unknown amount of time, he stopped.

This wasn’t because Lin Sheng was full; with the ”Devour” talent, Lin Sheng’s body would never reach a state of ”saturation.”

The reason he stopped was that there were no more of those small plants left around him.

After feeding for who knows how long, ignoring those tree-like ferns that were dozens of meters tall, Lin Sheng’s surroundings had turned into a wasteland.

At this moment, his evolution points had also broken through the 5,000 mark, reaching a new total of 5,471 points.

This was the result of Lin Sheng swallowing countless plants.

Looking at the Fern Trees standing before him like celestial pillars, Lin Sheng subconsciously swallowed.

(Note: There were no true trees in the carboniferous period period, but carboniferous period ferns could reach up to 40 meters in height and were similar to trees in many ways. For the sake of reading convenience, I will refer to these ferns as trees from now on.)

If—he meant if.

If he swallowed these trees as well, how many evolution points would he get?

Lin Sheng opened his mouth wide again and bit toward the giant tree in front of him.

However, an awkward scene unfolded.

Because the giant tree was too thick, he ended up stuck horizontally against it.

After flapping vigorously a few times, Lin Sheng finally tore off a small piece of the giant tree’s bark.

He swallowed that small piece of bark.

The feeling of having a gold mine but being unable to mine it made Lin Sheng very uncomfortable.

He flew up to the middle of the tree again, wanting to start with some of the giant tree’s branches.

However...

For these small branches, unless Lin Sheng swallowed a huge amount at once, he would only get the ”evolution points +0” prompt.

As for those thicker branches...

He couldn’t bite through them at all.

”What should I do?”

Perched on a thick branch of a giant tree, Lin Sheng scratched his head, thinking about how to exploit these gold mines.

Just then, he accidentally noticed a large lake not far from his location.

Visually, the radius was no less than a kilometer.

Through ”Clear Sight,” Lin Sheng could clearly see the creatures in the lake.

Countless fish darted among the corals; most importantly, and what attracted Lin Sheng the most, was that the fish came in all sizes.

Lin Sheng didn’t know how small the smallest were, but the largest certainly didn’t exceed twice his body length.
