Devouring Evolution: Devouring Nuclear Bombs at the Start

7: Chapter 7 Fishing TrapsThe heavy rain continued to fall without end.

Lin Sheng planned to take this opportunity to dig a fishing trap.

Once the fishing trap was successfully made, he would be able to continue eating fish.

With this thought in mind, Lin Sheng climbed down from the tree and ran to the riverside.

At a spot about six meters from the river, he mapped out a plot of land measuring approximately 10 by 10.

Lin Sheng intended to dig a large pit measuring 10 by 10 by 5 on this plot.

Once the pit was finished, he could connect it to the Great Lake. That way, as long as he placed some bait in the pit, he could obtain a steady stream of Giant Fish.

In order to eat fish sooner, Lin Sheng put extra effort into digging the pit.

Lin Sheng didn’t let the excavated soil go to waste either; as soon as the dirt was dug up, he sent it straight into his stomach.

This way, while Lin Sheng worked, his food problem was solved at the same time.

Oh, a pleasant surprise.

...

Time slowly passed as Lin Sheng kept himself busy.

Soon, night fell.

The Great Lake shimmered with faint glimmers under the night sky, and with the light emitted by the moon, Lin Sheng didn’t find it dark.

He decided not to go home tonight and simply dig the fishing trap in one go.

It was mainly because Lin Sheng realized he was digging far too slowly; after an entire afternoon, he had only finished a small fraction.

Although the heavy rains in the rainforest usually lasted for several days, Lin Sheng worried that if his luck was bad, the rain might stop tomorrow.

As soon as the rain stopped, the scorching sunlight would bake this area of land by the lake, which lacked the shade of large trees, dry in a very short time.

If that happened, the workload would directly double.

Lin Sheng didn’t want to end up with double or even several times the workload just because he was a little lazy for a while.

...

As it turned out, the rainforest terrain had an astonishing amount of precipitation.

This heavy rain had already lasted for two and a half days so far.

Through his unremitting efforts, Lin Sheng finally completed the fishing trap by noon today.

Next was the most important step—connecting the large pit with the Great Lake.

Lin Sheng planned to dig a channel about two meters deep at the junction of the pit and the Great Lake.

When the channel reached the edge of the lake water, Lin Sheng felt a bit conflicted.

Even with the heavy rain washing it away, Lin Sheng didn’t want to stick his claws directly into the lake water.

After hesitating by the lakeside for a while, Lin Sheng finally decided...

”Just do it!”

He had already dug this far; if he gave up at the last moment, wouldn’t that be a waste of his efforts over the past two days?

Moreover, after such a long period of heavy rain, the acid by the lakeshore would surely be diluted significantly; it wasn’t even certain if it could hurt his hands.

Just as Lin Sheng thought, the acid by the lakeshore had been diluted so much by the rainwater that it was already difficult for it to cause him any harm.

In half an hour, Lin Sheng dug through the final obstruction, and at that moment, the lake water began to flow continuously into the large pit he had dug.

There were also some small fish of modest size in the lake water, which flowed into Lin Sheng’s pit along with the current.

Seeing this, Lin Sheng’s heart was filled with a mix of surprise and joy.

His efforts over the past two and a half days had just ended, and he was already seeing significant results; how could he not feel happy?

...

After the water level in the pit equalized with the lake, Lin Sheng took advantage of the fact that the lake water’s acidity wasn’t very strong yet and sent the first batch of fish that entered the pit straight into his stomach.

Perhaps out of curiosity, fish would still look on from the lakeshore from time to time, but none dared to enter the pit through the connection anymore.

Seeing this, Lin Sheng wasn’t discouraged.

After all, he hadn’t placed any bait in the pit yet.

Thinking of bait, Lin Sheng felt a bit troubled.

Because he had already used leaves to wreak havoc on the surrounding schools of fish over the previous two days, using leaves again now would likely have the opposite effect.

But if he didn’t use leaves, he could only use the flesh and blood of a creature.

The thought of having to go hunting made Lin Sheng’s head ache a bit.

These two days of gnawing on leaves and eating dirt to satisfy his hunger had made him a bit lazy; now that he suddenly had to go hunting, he was somewhat unaccustomed to it.

But not hunting wasn’t an option.

After all, without the temptation of appetite, the number of fish in the fishing trap was pitifully small.

In that case, the fishing trap he had spent two and a half days painstakingly digging would go to waste.

...

The heavy rain continued to fall, and many creatures were unwilling to go out under such conditions.

With great difficulty, Lin Sheng managed to find a Four-legged Beast about one meter long in a cluster of shrubs.

”My friend, my meals for the next couple of days depend on you.”

With a pounce, his bloody maw accurately bit into the neck of the Four-legged Beast.

When dealing with a creature like this that Lin Sheng could actually bite into, the ”Poison Fangs” talent he obtained from the Newbie Gift Pack came into play.

A large amount of venom was injected into the body of the Four-legged Beast through the Poison Fangs.

This Four-legged Beast, whose neck was gripped by fate, only thrashed a few times before losing all signs of life.

”Not bad.”

Sensing that the Four-legged Beast in his mouth had lost its life, Lin Sheng’s opinion of the ”Poison Fangs” talent changed.

In just a few seconds, it had killed a creature one meter long; in his original era, very few creatures possessed venom that could achieve this.

Setting the Four-legged Beast down, Lin Sheng scanned the surroundings where the beast had been; he didn’t let those short ferns and shrubs go to waste either.

...

The heavy rain was still falling.

Lin Sheng resisted the urge to swallow the Four-legged Beast in one gulp and dragged it to the lakeside.

Although the Four-legged Beast wasn’t very large, if he dismembered it, there would be more than enough to make bait several times over.

Lin Sheng first cleared out the few small fish in the trap.

...

Then, he used his claws to forcefully slash the belly of the Four-legged Beast several times.

Several gashes deep enough to see bone instantly appeared on the beast’s abdomen, and blood gushed out as if it were free.

Seeing this, Lin Sheng hurriedly placed the carcass of the Four-legged Beast in the trap to wash it; he believed that with the smell of blood in the trap, fish would soon take the bait.

Sure enough, not long after the blood of the Four-legged Beast spread through the water, those Giant Fish followed the scent of blood over.

The Giant Fish, which could only spend their lives in acidic water, had never tasted the flavor of a land creature like this.

They all seemed to go crazy, scrambling to squeeze into the trap Lin Sheng had dug.

It was as if they were afraid that if they arrived too late, Lin Sheng wouldn’t eat them.

Some of the larger ones, who felt they had the strength, even leaped out of the water and flopped onto the shore, crawling toward the Four-legged Beast in Lin Sheng’s claws.
