Beast Taming: I'm Really Not a Cultivation Master

Chapter 346: Chapter 316: Snake-Eyed Tree Fruit

After placing the order at a self-service kiosk and seeing the on-screen message that his items would be delivered to his dorm within three days, Li Qian thought nothing more of it and turned to leave.

’There’s still one more Extraordinary Resource. I might as well go take a look.’ He had just started walking when something occurred to him. Li Qian turned right back around and headed in a new direction.

He turned back partly because of a hint of OCD, and partly because the last resource wasn’t far from his current location. If he didn’t go take a peek, he would feel as if he had left something unfinished, that it wasn’t a perfect conclusion.

The last resource was called the Snake-Eyed Tree Fruit. It was an emerald-green fruit that grew on a vine-like plant and resembled a snake’s eye.

He had already found the Starfish, bringing the mission progress to one hundred percent. Li Qian had assumed that going to see this last item was just a formality, a way to bring the matter to a satisfying close.

But to his surprise, as he drew closer and gazed at the emerald-green fruit, the electronic prompt suddenly sounded in his mind once again.

[Inspiration Value +10, Current Mission Progress: 110%!]

Hearing the electronic prompt in his head, Li Qian froze, completely stunned. It was a long moment before he finally processed what had happened.

”What’s going on? How did my Inspiration Value increase by another ten points?” Li Qian couldn’t help but mutter, a look of astonishment flashing across his face.

After a moment of shock, realization dawned on him. He understood what this meant, and a look of excitement immediately lit up his face.

He strode quickly, leaving the second floor of the Pet Beast Center without a moment’s hesitation and heading straight out the door.

He finally returned to his dorm a little after eight that evening.

The moment he was back in his dorm, he collapsed onto the sofa.

Closing his eyes in thought, he immediately connected with his Golden Finger and recited internally, ’Submit Mission Two: The evolution method for the Three-tailed Cat to become a Four-tailed Cat.’

As he repeated the command in his mind, the electronic prompt sounded once again.

[Submission Successful!]

Immediately following the prompt, a massive tide of information surged into his brain.

The amount of information was immense.

But compared to the last few times, it was nothing.

This was likely related to the fact that the evolution method from a Three-tailed Cat to a Four-tailed Cat didn’t break through to the Dominator level, only reaching Commander Peak.

It didn’t take long to absorb the information; Li Qian had a preliminary grasp of it all in about ten minutes.

Sifting through the information that had flooded his mind, Li Qian finally understood the whole story.

It was just as he had suspected.

The reason the mission completion rate could exceed one hundred percent was simple: there were two evolutionary paths from a Three-tailed Cat to a Four-tailed Cat.

The first path was to raise the Telekinesis Skill Level to the Breakthrough Level and then consume a Starfish.

The second path also required raising the Telekinesis Skill to the Breakthrough Level, but instead of consuming a Starfish, the Pet Beast would consume a Snake-Eyed Tree Fruit.

That’s right—after consuming a Snake-Eyed Tree Fruit, a Three-tailed Cat could also evolve into a Four-tailed Cat.

However, unlike a Four-tailed Cat that evolved by consuming a Starfish, the subsequent Evolutionary Form of one that consumed a Snake-Eyed Tree Fruit was completely different.

It couldn’t evolve into a Five-tailed Cat at all.

It could only evolve down an entirely different path.

As for what the final evolution on this path was, Li Qian had no idea.

The knowledge infusion he received upon submitting the mission had only touched upon this information briefly; it hadn’t gone into detail.

Having absorbed this information, Li Qian couldn’t help but marvel at how a single different step could lead to two completely different paths.

Li Qian didn’t know what the Four-tailed Cat’s evolution would ultimately become after consuming a Snake-Eyed Tree Fruit.

Driven by curiosity, he immediately opened his phone and bought a Three-tailed Cat from the Pet Beast Mall.

He planned to use this Three-tailed Cat to test the new evolutionary method.

As for his current Four-tailed Cat, which had already reached the Commander Level, Li Qian planned to have it follow the standard path and evolve into a Five-tailed Cat.

Having made his decision, he didn’t hesitate and immediately bought a Three-tailed Cat from the Pet Beast Mall.

Unlike a Four-tailed Cat, a Three-tailed Cat wasn’t expensive. Even one that had reached its Racial Potential Limit only cost a little over 200,000.

After completing these transactions, Li Qian finally pulled up the mission panel to have a look.

The moment he saw it, a complicated expression crossed his face.

He had only received four Achievement Points for completing this mission.

His Achievement Points total was now fifteen.

It was a considerable sum.

But Li Qian wasn’t very happy about it.

Even with 110% mission completion, he had only received four Achievement Points. From this, he could deduce that in the eyes of his Golden Finger, an evolutionary path that didn’t reach the Dominator Level and merely stopped at the Commander Level wasn’t worth much.

After a moment’s thought, Li Qian figured that made sense.

It would be ridiculous if this kind of evolutionary path could be compared to that of the Cyan-Scaled Flood Dragon or the Frostfire Salamander.

「Time flew by, and soon it was the weekend.」

The night before, the Snake-Eyed Tree Fruit and Starfish that Li Qian had purchased from the School Pet Beast Center were delivered.

That morning, the Three-tailed Cat he had bought from the online Pet Beast Mall also arrived.

With all his preparations complete, Li Qian didn’t hesitate to pull out his phone and make a call.

The person he was calling was none other than Dean Fei of the Cultivation College.

Once the call connected, Li Qian wasted no time and got straight to the point, explaining his purpose.

Li Qian needed a quiet Pet Beast Laboratory to conduct a test on Pet Beast evolution.

Upon hearing this, a look of delight immediately appeared on Dean Fei’s face.

Just as Dean Fei fell silent and Li Qian began to think his request would be difficult to accommodate, the dean spoke with a firm voice and agreed outright.

”To have results so soon after joining the school... you’re full of surprises, Li Qian.” From the sound of his voice over the phone, it was clear Dean Fei was in an excellent mood.

”I was just lucky. I’ve made some headway on the Three-tailed Cat evolution I mentioned to you before and am preparing to run a test,” Li Qian explained simply.

”Ah, the Three-tailed Cat. Very good. That’s a very meaningful line of research,” Dean Fei praised him over the phone after hearing the subject of his study.

However, Li Qian detected a faint note of disappointment in his praise.

He didn’t dwell on it. After chatting for a little while longer, Li Qian hung up.

About an hour after the call ended, a familiar face appeared at Li Qian’s dorm.

It was his class advisor—Teacher Wu.
