Beast Taming: I'm Really Not a Cultivation Master

Chapter 345: Chapter 315: Starfish

”This is the place.” On Wednesday afternoon, after his classes ended, Li Qian arrived at the School Pet Beast Center.

”Dean Fei, I have a question. Um, do I have any Points?” After arriving at the Pet Beast Center, Li Qian didn’t start browsing right away. Instead, he made a call to Dean Fei of the Cultivation College.

’Even though I haven’t completed any tasks, my status as a specially recruited student should come with some perks.’

”Student Li Qian, are you planning to buy something at the School Pet Beast Center?” On the other end of the line, Dean Fei heard him and immediately understood Li Qian’s purpose.

”Yes.” Li Qian didn’t hide it, admitting it directly with a simple response.

On the other end of the line, Dean Fei’s voice sounded again, ”Student Li Qian, because you are a talented student specially recruited by our Shazhou Beast Taming University, you automatically received one thousand Points upon enrollment.”

Without pausing, Dean Fei continued, ”I don’t know what project you’re researching, Student Li Qian, but our Cultivation College also has tasks posted at the Pet Beast Center. You can take a look. If you complete them, you can also earn a considerable amount of Points.”

Li Qian’s eyes lit up when he heard this. ”Okay, I’ll go take a look later.”

After chatting for a little while longer, Li Qian hung up the phone and started browsing inside the Pet Beast Center.

According to Dean Fei, the task for the evolutionary method from a Three-tailed Cat to a Four-tailed Cat had indeed been posted at the Pet Beast Center by the Cultivation College some time ago.

However, because a breakthrough had been made in the research, the task was canceled.

Although Dean Fei had been vague, Li Qian was very clear that the so-called ”breakthrough” must mean the research was complete.

As for whether it was an individual, an organization, or one of the school’s Cultivation Bases or research labs, that was unknown.

’I lean toward it being an individual, or a private research lab or Cultivation Base. Otherwise, the school probably wouldn’t have minded telling me the evolutionary method directly.’

The fact that Dean Fei hadn’t mentioned anything just now already said a lot. Li Qian wasn’t a fool; he naturally understood the key points of the situation.

”So there really is a research task for the Three-tailed Cat to Four-tailed Cat evolutionary method...” As Li Qian wandered through the Pet Beast Center, he soon saw a line of text that caught his interest on one of the screens.

He glanced at it briefly before looking away. For him, the evolutionary method from a Three-tailed Cat to a Four-tailed Cat was already in its final stage.

’There’s no need to accept this task. After all, if I do, I’ll have to share the results of the evolution unconditionally.’

Although this evolutionary result wasn’t a big deal, and many Breeders and organizations had already mastered it, Li Qian had no intention of giving away something he could obtain so easily.

After looking around the Pet Beast Center, besides the mostly normal tasks, Li Qian also saw a ridiculous piece of information.

For example: the evolutionary method for the Nine-tailed Cat!

One had to know, the Nine-tailed Cat was a Pet Beast with Legendary Level Potential. To this day, humanity’s understanding of it was still very limited, let alone any research.

In Li Qian’s view, posting such a task, no matter how rich the reward, was no different from a joke.

As for the combat and adventure-type tasks, they were even more bizarre and varied, covering every imaginable type.

”Acquiring the ass of a Golden Chicken... Tsk tsk tsk... That’s a... unique hobby...” Li Qian couldn’t help but comment.

This task seemed simple, but in reality, it was not so easy to complete. Not only were Golden Chickens rare, but they also typically lived only in the deeper Dimension Planes. Forget capturing one; even finding one was extremely difficult.

Leaving the first floor for the second, the crowd thinned out considerably. Li Qian browsed the second floor and soon saw the first Extraordinary Resource he had anticipated.

Moonlight Mushroom!

An Extraordinary Resource that was slightly toxic and would cause a Pet Beast to hallucinate upon consumption, but could improve its physical constitution.

Li Qian stared at it intently, but there was no reaction in his mind.

Not disappointed, he continued on, heading toward the second Extraordinary Resource on his list.

The Pet Beast Center had been set up with a special spatial Array. What seemed like a small space from the outside was exceptionally vast upon entering.

Unlike the Pet Beast Centers or Pet Beast Commercial Streets outside, there were no sales guides on campus. If you wanted something, you had to find it yourself.

Once you found what you wanted, you could place an order at a self-service kiosk. Li Qian searched the item catalog and quickly found the location of the second Extraordinary Resource.

Li Qian didn’t hesitate. He searched again and, before long, had located the five Extraordinary Resources he had theorized were the most likely candidates.

After noting the locations of these five Extraordinary Resources, Li Qian began his search. Three minutes later, he had found the second Extraordinary Resource on his list.

’It’s not this one either.’ Standing next to the second Extraordinary Resource, his Golden Finger still gave no reaction in his mind.

Li Qian shook his head slightly, but he wasn’t discouraged. He continued on to find the third. And so, about ten minutes later, he arrived in front of the fourth Extraordinary Resource—the Starfish.

The Starfish was very special. Strictly speaking, it was also a type of Extraordinary Creature. Its combat power was not strong, but it was quite fast.

According to research by Breeders, the Starfish was almost incapable of evolution. Even in the deeper Dimension Planes, its Evolutionary Form had never been seen.

Li Qian wasn’t the least bit curious whether it truly couldn’t evolve or if an evolutionary path simply hadn’t been found yet.

What he cared about was the Starfish’s own nourishing properties, which could significantly improve a Pet Beast’s physical constitution.

The Starfish wasn’t large, weighing about two jin. It looked a bit like a common grass carp, but the difference was that its entire body emitted a faint, star-like glow, giving it a very mysterious appearance.

[Inspiration Value +6. Current task progress: 100%. Submit task?]

Just as Li Qian was staring at the Starfish, a notification, like music from the heavens, suddenly rang in his mind.

”I can’t believe it’s the Starfish,” Li Qian muttered to himself, looking at the fish.

He had considered the possibility that the Extraordinary Resource was the Starfish, but to be honest, he’d thought it was unlikely.

It just went to show that his guess was a little off, but fortunately, not by much.

Instead of submitting the task immediately, Li Qian glanced at the fish tank, which held at least seven or eight Starfish. He then glanced at the price above it—200 Points. Without hesitating, he placed an order for two.

Starfish weren’t that rare, so there was no need to hoard them. Besides, for his research purposes, two would be more than enough.
