Beast Taming: I'm Really Not a Cultivation Master

Chapter 338: Chapter 308: Gu Zijie

After briefly introducing the importance of the Evolutionary Theory course, Professor Lianhua continued, getting straight to the point. ”I trust you all have a basic understanding of this course now. So, let’s officially begin class.”

Professor Lianhua didn’t waste any more breath trying to persuade them. Whether they learned or not was up to them; it wasn’t his time they’d be wasting.

At the university level, many things depended on oneself. You couldn’t learn anything worthwhile if you needed someone watching over you.

In the future, being unlearned and unskilled and damaging the school’s reputation was a minor issue. Entering a Dimension Plane and losing your life—that was the major one.

”If you want to do well in Evolutionary Theory, you must first understand: what is evolution?”

”...”

Professor Lianhua then began to speak with great eloquence. He not only looked like a seasoned scholar, but he was, in fact, also incredibly experienced in teaching.

He had an excellent command of the lesson’s pacing.

After covering a segment of information, he would always give the students time to digest and absorb it, followed by interactive questions. This interval was about eight to ten minutes.

This showed just how familiar he was with the course material.

A single class was only an hour long, and it passed quickly when one was listening with rapt attention.

When the bell signaling the end of class rang, Li Qian instinctively checked his phone.

”That went by fast,” he muttered to himself. As he prepared to stand up, a thought suddenly struck him. He turned his head to look at Ami Liya beside him. ”Ami Liya, do you have any other classes this morning?”

”I have a Breeding Science class in ten minutes. What about you?” Ami Liya replied, asking a question of her own.

Li Qian smiled and shook his head. ”I only had this one Evolutionary Theory class this morning. My next class isn’t until three in the afternoon.”

Li Qian really wanted to complain about the school’s scheduling, but he knew it was pointless.

Besides, strictly speaking, it had less to do with the school administration’s scheduling and more to do with his own course selection.

So he could only suppress the urge to complain. In reality, university course loads were very light, usually only about five classes a week.

The rest of the time was mostly for self-study. If you obtained an Adventurer’s Badge, you could use that as a reason to enter a Dimension Plane to train, giving you even more freedom with your time.

Of course, freedom was one thing, but you still had to accumulate enough credits. Otherwise, you’d have to go through the special graduation channels, which would be quite a hassle.

The two of them stood up, met with Wu Mingming and Yao Yan, and prepared to leave the large lecture hall. Just then, a figure suddenly shot out, blocking their path.

He was blocking the door to the lecture hall.

Seeing this, not only Li Qian’s group of four, but the few other students who hadn’t left yet also looked on in astonishment.

They quickly backed away but kept watching, their eyes glued to the scene, looking for all the world like a crowd of eager onlookers.

Well, strictly speaking, they *were* a crowd of eager onlookers.

Li Qian focused his gaze and saw the familiar figure.

He wasn’t particularly concerned. He glanced casually at the person blocking the lecture hall doorway.

It was none other than the pretty boy who had tried to steal his seat before class and ended up being humiliated by him and Ami Liya working together.

”Gu Zijie, what are you doing? Haven’t you embarrassed yourself enough?” Ami Liya clearly knew this pretty boy, and she reprimanded him.

”Ah Mi, you’re scolding me over this guy? From high school to university, after all these years, you still don’t understand my feelings for you?” The pretty boy, Gu Zijie, looked on, his expression twisting as Ami Liya chided him.

Li Qian pursed his lips and couldn’t help but mutter, ”Damn, so he’s the tragic second male lead.”

’But this shameless, pestering tactic...’

’Whatever. As long as it doesn’t involve me, there’s no need to get tangled up with him.’

With that thought, Li Qian decided to be the bigger person. ”Why don’t you step aside? There are still a lot of students here. If you keep making a scene and something happens, I’m afraid you won’t be able to handle the consequences.”

”This is Shazhou Beast Taming University, after all.”

Li Qian offered a kind reminder.

However, the pretty boy, Gu Zijie, showed no sign of appreciating the gesture.

He whipped his head around to face Li Qian. ”It’s you! You’re the pretty boy who dares to hit on my Ami Liya!”

Hearing this, Li Qian rubbed his nose, an awkward expression on his face.

’Gu Zijie, the pretty boy, is calling me a ”pretty boy”? Isn’t that a bit absurd?’

’If anyone fits the description of ”pretty boy,” it’s him.’

Li Qian was a little annoyed.

Ami Liya’s expression turned ugly as well.

’What did he mean, *his* Ami Liya?’

’Hearing him say that, anyone who didn’t know better might think I’m some kind of player.’

”I don’t care what’s going on between you and Ami Liya, but this has nothing to do with me, and it certainly has nothing to do with all these other students. If you’re going to keep making a scene, well, I’ll have no choice but to go get a professor,” Li Qian said with a shrug, putting on an unconcerned expression.

His demeanor only made the pretty boy, Gu Zijie, even more furious.

From childhood to now, no one had ever dared to defy him like this!

”Is calling a teacher the only thing you know how to do? If you’re a man, follow me to the arena for a real combat pk,” the pretty boy, Gu Zijie, said, staring coldly at Li Qian in a provocative tone.

Li Qian scoffed and walked past him nonchalantly. ”I don’t have time to play children’s games with you. Besides, I’m in the Cultivation College, not the Combat Academy. What if I lose a fight against you? And what if I win?”

His words were so logical and well-reasoned that for a moment, the pretty boy, Gu Zijie, was left speechless.

”You... you...” After sputtering in anger for a few moments, he ultimately didn’t block Li Qian’s path again.

Just as Li Qian had said, this wasn’t the city he was used to from his high school days. This was Shazhou City, home of Shazhou Beast Taming University. If he really caused trouble, the professors and the school administration wouldn’t cut him any slack.

He thought to himself, ’You better hope I don’t run into you off-campus or in a Dimension Plane.’

His expression turned extremely ugly, but Li Qian couldn’t care less.

”I’m sorry about that. That Gu Zijie was my classmate in high school. He’s been pestering me for a long time.” After they left the lecture hall and were walking down the corridor, Ami Liya quickly explained in a low voice.

Hearing this, Li Qian waved his hand dismissively. ”No need to apologize. It was just a small thing.”

”Actually, before class, if he hadn’t been deliberately trying to annoy me with that smug look on his face, I wouldn’t have responded at all.”

”Well, Ami Liya, I have something to do, so I’ll be going now.”

With that, Li Qian walked straight off in the direction of his dorm.

After Li Qian left, Ami Liya turned to Yao Yan beside her. ”Yao Yan, do you think he hates me?”

”You’ve only just met. What’s there to hate or not hate? Could it be that you like him? Otherwise, why would you care so much about what he thinks?” Yao Yan had a teasing, unreadable smile on her face.

”But after what happened last time, we can at least see that he’s a pretty outstanding guy.”

Yao Yan continued in a teasing tone, ”Our dear Miss Liya, have you... started to fall for him?”

”Come to think of it, it’d be perfectly normal to fall for him. After all, Li Qian is a very outstanding person.”

”Stop teasing me. I just feel that since he saved us last time, he’s our benefactor, so I’m just grateful to him, that’s all,” Ami Liya explained defensively.

Yao Yan pursed her lips in a smile. ”Are you sure you weren’t just using him as a shield just now? Or perhaps... you have some deeper motive?”

Yao Yan’s words sent Ami Liya into silence. For a moment, she didn’t know how to respond...
