Beast Taming: I'm Really Not a Cultivation Master

Chapter 341: Chapter 311: Freshman Challenge

After establishing the research project, Li Qian wasted no more time. That evening, he used his VR glasses to enter Shazhou Beast Taming University’s virtual library.

Unlike the physical library standing on campus, the virtual library was open twenty-four hours a day.

Without a doubt, the virtual library was significantly more convenient for students accessing books.

Of course, the virtual library wasn’t without its flaws.

Its biggest drawback was... that some special books, such as relics brought back from the Deep Elemental Planes, couldn’t be scanned in at all.

Li Qian entered the virtual library, input his student ID number, and after an iris scan, he saw his library access level.

Sixth Level. Li Qian was a little surprised when he saw his library access.

From what he understood, the highest library level at Shazhou Beast Taming University was the Ninth Level.

For a freshman who had just enrolled to be granted Sixth Level access, it was a clear indication of how highly the university valued him.

’Then again, it’s understandable,’ he thought. ’After all, they went to considerable expense to specially recruit me from Jiangnan Province.’

’It’d be strange if they didn’t.’

After doing a broad search for books related to One-tailed Cat research, Li Qian discovered that there were quite a lot of them.

This also showed how special the One-tailed Cat was and how popular it was as a research topic; he guessed that quite a few Breeders were probably aiming in this direction.

After copying all the books, Li Qian checked the time. It was already quite late, so he didn’t start reading them immediately.

After a quick wash, he went to bed.

The next day, bright and early, Li Qian grabbed a quick breakfast and headed to a training room in the Cultivation College’s training building.

The training building was open to students, containing a vast number of small training rooms designated for student use.

After all, under normal circumstances, summoning Pet Beasts was forbidden on campus.

Li Qian could understand this rule. If students could summon their Pet Beasts whenever they pleased, the school’s order would have long since devolved into chaos.

It wouldn’t be safe for students to live and study there either.

The Cultivation College’s training building was said to be a single building, but in reality, it was set up with a rather profound Spatial Array.

Before entering, a training room looked perfectly ordinary—thirty square meters at most, he’d guess—but once inside, he was almost dumbstruck.

Pushing open the door, he saw not a small room, but a square-shaped field, each side about a hundred meters long.

The field was enclosed by Earth Walls.

On the Earth Walls were rows of rather complex Runes.

’Those must be the Array patterns that maintain this special space,’ he thought.

This was the training room Li Qian had chosen.

After entering the training room, he took out the Beast Taming Ball containing the Mutated Three-tailed Cat—the Four-tailed Cat—that he had acquired from Senior Brother Du yesterday.

A flash of red light later, the Four-tailed Cat was released.

The moment the Four-tailed Cat was released, it let out a furious Howl, its expression savage.

Li Qian noted that it wasn’t in good condition; it was suffering from some nasty injuries. But that was to be expected. If it weren’t so badly hurt, a simple Beast Taming Ball would never have been able to contain it.

The Four-tailed Cat bared its teeth at Li Qian, poised to attack at any moment.

It looked wild and untamable.

Seeing this, Li Qian just smiled, not worried in the slightest. He muttered to himself, ”Oh, quite the rebel. But getting captured for no reason... it’s normal to have a bit of a temper.”

Just as the Four-tailed Cat was about to pounce, Li Qian made a slight gesture, swiping his finger forward. Immediately after, a Summoning Array flared to life.

”Qizai, teach it how to be my research subject.” As the Summoning Array lit up, Qizai quickly appeared in the training room, and Li Qian gave it a simple instruction.

After giving the order, he turned around, leisurely took a drink out of his Space Necklace, and started sipping it, looking as if the matter had nothing to do with him.

”MEOW MEOW MEOW...”

”ROAR! ROAR! ROAR!”

The instant he turned, a series of Qizai’s resounding roars and the Four-tailed Cat’s miserable, shrill cries erupted behind him.

「About ten minutes later.」

When Li Qian turned back, the scene was completely different.

The Four-tailed Cat was prostrated on the ground, bowing and scraping. It looked at Li Qian with eyes full of nothing but fear and reverence.

Seeing this, Li Qian couldn’t help but shake his head. ’Looks like the so-called ”wild and untamable” nature depends on the beast in question.’

’At least this Four-tailed Cat in front of me doesn’t have such a strong backbone.’

After getting roughed up by Qizai, it had become completely obedient.

Li Qian walked over, fed the Four-tailed Cat a healing-type Pet Beast Potion, then began to pace and observe it.

During this time, Li Qian was like a photographer, constantly giving orders and observing, while the Four-tailed Cat was like a model, obeying his commands and striking all sorts of poses.

The scene was, admittedly, a bit bizarre.

The Four-tailed Cat was different from a regular house cat. As an Extraordinary Creature, its body was much larger. Aside from the color of its fur, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call it a fierce tiger.

Its four tails were raised, swaying constantly, and combined with its sapphire-blue eyes, it gave off a very bewitching aura.

”Slowly, one step at a time. There’s no need to rush.” After observing for a while without any leads, Li Qian sat down. While keeping an eye on the cat, he took out his VR glasses and began to go through the books he had collected the previous night.

’First, let’s look at the evolution method from a One-tailed Cat to a two-tailed one... As long as it reaches its Racial Potential Limit, it can begin to evolve.’ While reading the book’s description, Li Qian pondered certain things.

’The evolution from a two-tailed to a Three-tailed Cat is also very simple.’

’Besides reaching its Racial Potential Limit, it just has to train a Racial Skill—Telekinesis—to the Perfection Level.’

Li Qian guessed that it was likely because it had trained Telekinesis to the Perfection Level that the Spiritual Element attribute appeared after it became a Three-tails.

According to the knowledge he had gathered from the books so far, combined with what he’d heard from Senior Brother Du... from Three-tails all the way to Seven-tails, its only attribute was Spirit.

As for whether this was true for Eight-tails and Nine-tails, there were no records in the books, and Senior Brother Du didn’t know either. Strictly speaking, both Eight-tails and Nine-tails were far beyond the reach of an ordinary Breeder.

’From two-tails to Three-tails, and from Three-tails to Four-tails... it should also be related to the Telekinesis Skill. Perhaps it needs to reach the Breakthrough Level.’

Just as Li Qian was contemplating this, an electronic prompt suddenly sounded in his mind.

[Inspiration Value +5. Current Mission Progress: 90%!]

’Just as I thought. I wasn’t wrong.’

’To evolve from a Three-tailed Cat to a Four-tailed Cat, the Telekinesis Skill must be trained to the Breakthrough Level.’

’Besides Telekinesis at the Breakthrough Level, there must be some other conditions.’

There were definitely other conditions, but right now, Li Qian had no clue what they were.

After thinking for a while, with noon approaching and still no new ideas, Li Qian didn’t dwell on it. He simply recalled the Four-tailed Cat and left the training room.

When he returned to his dorm, just as Li Qian pushed the door open, a familiar voice called out from the balcony. It was Lu Tianjiao.

”Li Qian, have you thought about signing up for the upcoming Freshman Challenge?”
