Beast Taming: I'm Really Not a Cultivation Master

Chapter 315: Chapter 285: Yuntian City

She waited a moment, letting the freshmen digest the information, before continuing, ”Also, humanity’s industrial base here is relatively weak—miles behind the Ancestral Star, at least. So, here in Yuntian City, electricity is also an extremely precious resource. Building so many high-rises and running the city requires a lot more power...”

Just as Senior Sister Ling finished her explanation, Instructor Zhou’s voice suddenly rang out.

He clapped his hands to get everyone’s attention and said, ”Alright, this morning, our plan is to enter Yuntian City. It’s relatively safe here. From now until one in the afternoon is free time.”

”Next, the three other instructors and I will each take a group of six or seven of you to familiarize you with Yuntian City.”

The moment he finished speaking, the freshmen erupted in cheers.

A moment later, under Instructor Zhou’s direction, the freshmen split into four small groups and dispersed from the plaza in four different directions.

Li Qian and five other students followed Senior Brother Du eastward.

Splitting up like this was far more convenient and flexible.

”Senior Brother Du, what’s that over there?” After walking for a while, one of the slightly chubby male students asked, pointing to a rather bustling district.

”The Free Trade Zone.” Senior Brother Du gestured in that direction and led the group onward, explaining as they walked.

Upon entering the district, everyone immediately began looking around. It was quite lively inside, but not chaotic at all. In fact, it was perfectly orderly.

The district was lined on both sides with one stall after another. Although the stalls themselves weren’t large, the items on display were incredibly abundant—it was no exaggeration to call it a dazzling array.

Senior Brother Du greeted a shop owner, who seemed to be an old acquaintance. Afterward, he continued, ”You can make trades here for Contribution Points, Federation Coins, or even barter with other items.”

”Of course, you can also wait until you leave the Dimension Plane and trade with the various Pet Beast shops outside. It’s a bit more trouble, but the prices you get will be slightly higher.”

”Listing them directly on the Pet Beast Mall for auction or trade is also an option, but the turnaround time is a little slow.”

Li Qian was also very curious. As he scanned the stalls, he soon spotted some materials he needed: Wind Chime Fruits, Xunfeng Bamboo, and some Life Element Materials. They seemed quite a bit cheaper than buying them directly from the Pet Beast Mall.

Nodding slightly, Li Qian continued to follow the group forward.

After passing through the district, the group walked for some time. Whenever the freshmen came across a novel-looking building, they would ask about it, and for every question, Senior Brother Du gave a detailed explanation.

”What’s that?” After walking for a while longer, a tower about ten stories high came into the freshmen’s view.

”That’s the Beast Taming Tower!”

Senior Brother Du looked toward the tower, his eyes filled with reverence. ”The Guardian Envoy’s residence.”

”Guardian Envoy?” Li Qian mulled over the term, lost in thought.

Facing the tower as if gazing upon a sacred monument, Senior Brother Du continued, ”Cities in the Dimension Planes are different from those on the Ancestral Star. Every city has a Guardian Envoy. They are the ultimate guarantee of a city’s safety.”

”What about the soldiers on the city walls, then?” a freshman asked in confusion.

”Those soldiers serve more as a deterrent. Of course, they can handle small problems, but they’re useless against major threats.” Shaking his head, Senior Brother Du shifted his gaze back to the tower. ”In a large city, the Guardian Envoy is normally at the Legendary Level.”

”Legendary Level?!” Hearing this, Li Qian felt a jolt of shock.

”It’s not like the cities on the Ancestral Star. Even a large city in a Dimension Plane only has about a million people. However, everyone who ventures into a Dimension Plane is one of humanity’s elite, so protecting them is an extremely vital task.” Senior Brother Du paused, gazing at the tower for a good while. He spoke earnestly, as if trying to impress upon them the importance of the matter. ”Without these honorable Guardian Envoys, human Beast Masters would have no way of establishing a foothold in the Dimension Planes.”

”Medium-sized cities have Saint Spirit Level Beast Masters.”

”Small cities have Emperor Level Beast Masters.”

He concluded by suddenly posing a question, ”Do you know why it’s said that the Dimensional Rift in Shazhou City is suppressed by our Shazhou Beast Taming University?”

”Does it have to do with these ten cities?” Li Qian immediately caught on.

Senior Brother Du looked at Li Qian and nodded in approval. ”Yes. The Guardian Envoys of these ten cities are almost all professors or deans from our Shazhou Beast Taming University, or they’re graduates.”

After that, the group continued to wander around Yuntian City. Although it was called a large city, Yuntian City itself wasn’t actually that big.

By around noon, they had seen most of it.

Of course, this was largely because they had only visited the key areas and important buildings.

For example, they hadn’t gone to the residential areas in the western and northern parts of the city at all.

Seeing this, Senior Brother Du suggested, ”Alright, we’ve seen most of the sights. Let’s go get a bite to eat.”

Senior Brother Du had originally planned to treat everyone to a simple meal with just a few stir-fried dishes, but Ding Ganmao, the chubby student who had spoken up earlier, generously ordered several more for the table.

Seeing this, Li Qian couldn’t help but think to himself, ’As expected. Money talks, no matter where you are.’

After lunch, the group didn’t waste any more time and headed straight back toward the Central Plaza. ”Senior Brother Du, didn’t Instructor Zhou say to meet at one o’clock?”

”We are meeting at one. We’re going back half an hour early because there’s something I need to tell you all,” Senior Brother Du said with a smile. ”This afternoon, our training ground is the Moon Shadow Forest outside the city. You should go check the task board at the Pet Beast Center to see if there are any suitable tasks. If there are, you can accept them in advance.”

The Pet Beast Center was located right on the northern edge of the Central Plaza, just a short walk from where they were.

When the group of seven arrived at the Pet Beast Center, they saw that another team had already gotten there ahead of them. They were clustered together under a large screen, reading some information.

”That’s the place.” Seeing their gazes fixed on the screen, Senior Brother Du added.

The six freshmen immediately walked over. ”There’s a task to collect the fangs of a Two-tailed Cat.”

”There’s also a task to gather Jade Grass.”

...

Hearing his classmates’ chatter, Li Qian asked, ”Senior Brother Du, what if two people accept the same task...?”

Senior Brother Du smiled faintly. ”I know what you’re asking.”

”Whoever turns it in first gets the reward!”

”Of course, if it’s a repeatable task, then it doesn’t matter.”

”Besides those, there are some tasks that you don’t need to accept in advance. As long as you bring back the required materials, you can accept and complete the task on the spot.”

Hearing this, Li Qian didn’t hesitate any longer and immediately went over to take a look.

’Capture a One-tailed Cat alive... This task is interesting...’ After a quick scan, he saw there weren’t many tasks related to the Moon Shadow Forest, but one in particular caught his eye.

Seeing Senior Brother Du walk over, Li Qian asked, ”Senior Brother Du, do you know about this task?”

”It’s a repeatable task!” Senior Brother Du chuckled, his answer somewhat evasive.

Li Qian pressed him directly, ”Why does the quest issuer want to capture One-tailed Cats, and not Two-tailed or Three-tailed Cats?”

Senior Brother Du gazed at Li Qian for a moment, the corner of his mouth curving into a faint smile. ”As it happens, I know a little inside information about that task. It was posted by the Shazhou City Breeder Association. The reason for capturing One-tailed Cats on such a large scale is, apparently, because a Breeder in the Association has discovered a mutated evolutionary form for the One-tailed Cat. Its Racial Potential is significantly higher than that of a Two-tailed or Three-tailed Cat!”

”I see!” A look of sudden understanding dawned on Li Qian’s face.
