Beast Taming: I'm Really Not a Cultivation Master

Chapter 340: Chapter 310: Two Exchange Conditions

”Someone wants to research the Mutated Three-tailed Cat to explore the evolutionary secrets of the Nine-tailed Cat.” Li Qian understood at once, then began muttering to himself. ’That’s a decent approach.’

Suddenly, a thought struck him, and he asked, ”So strictly speaking, shouldn’t the Mutated Three-tailed Cat be called a Four-tailed Cat? If a Four-tailed Cat’s Racial Potential has already reached Commander Peak, then what about a Five-tailed Cat, a Six-tailed Cat, or even a Seven-tailed Cat?”

Hearing this, Senior Brother Du immediately understood what Li Qian was getting at. He smiled and explained, ”That’s what makes the Three-tailed Cat so special. There’s a clear evolutionary path from one tail to nine, with distinct tiers.”

”From Four-tails to Five-tails, the Racial Potential leaps to the Dominator Initial Stage. From Five-tails to Six-tails, it’s Dominator Peak. Six-tails to Seven-tails is Mid-Tier Emperor. Seven-tails to Eight-tails is Holy Spirit Level Initial Stage, and Eight-tails to Nine-tails is Legend.”

Hearing this, Li Qian’s curiosity grew. ”If so many people and organizations are researching it, that must mean this clear evolutionary path hasn’t been figured out yet. So how do you know all this so clearly?”

”Because in the deeper Dimension Planes, it’s not rare to find their later Evolutionary Forms. In fact, I once encountered a Five-tailed Cat while adventuring in a deep Dimension Plane. Its power had already reached the Dominator Level.”

”Of course, the reason so many people are flocking to this research is that living examples exist in the wilds of the Dimension Planes. Some Breeders have also revealed that the Three-tailed Cat—or more accurately, the One-tailed Cat—is very special. It has many evolutionary tiers, but the jump between each tier isn’t that large. This means the difficulty of evolution is relatively low.”

He paused before adding, ”If it were a direct evolution from a Four-tailed Cat to a Nine-tailed Cat—a straight jump from Commander Level to Legendary Level—then probably no one would even bother trying.”

Li Qian nodded in understanding. ”So to put it bluntly, people think the difficulty is low and just want to try their luck.”

”Exactly,” Senior Brother Du agreed. ”It’s like climbing a building. Getting from the first floor to the 100th is certainly hard, but the real challenge is when there’s no elevator and you don’t even know where the stairs are. If you knew where the stairs were, a lot of people would be willing to try.”

”Besides, even if you can’t make it to the 100th floor, reaching the 50th or 60th is still an impressive achievement.” Finally, Senior Brother Du revealed, ”In fact, it’s rumored that some Breeders have already figured out how to evolve them into a Five-tailed or even a Six-tailed Cat. They just haven’t made it public.”

Li Qian nodded, having understood everything Senior Brother Du had said. Without hesitation, he asked directly, ”Senior Brother Du, would you be willing to part with that Mutated Three-tailed Cat of yours and let me have it?”

Through their conversation, Li Qian had learned that Senior Brother Du had been lucky enough to capture a Mutated Three-tailed Cat.

Senior Brother Du didn’t seem surprised by the sudden request. ”You’re a student at our Shazhou Beast Taming University’s Cultivation College. It’s only normal that you’d be interested in a Mutated Three-tailed Cat.”

Li Qian continued, ”How about this? You know about my Cyan-Scaled Flood Dragon, right? I’ll trade you one for it. What do you say?”

”N-No way!” After hearing Li Qian’s offer, Senior Brother Du was stunned, his shock plain to see. ”That’s far too valuable! The Cyan-Scaled Flood Dragon is a Pet Beast with Mid-Tier Dominator Potential, whereas the Four-tailed Cat only has Commander Peak Potential. They’re not in the same league at all!”

Li Qian smiled, his respect for Senior Brother Du growing. ’He’s a good guy.’ He said, ”It’s fine. I’ve already mastered the Cyan-Scaled Flood Dragon’s evolution method, so it’s not that valuable to me. By the same token, a Four-tailed Cat isn’t just an ordinary Pet Beast with Commander Peak Potential to me, either. The value it can create is by no means less than that of a Cyan-Scaled Flood Dragon.”

”No, you can’t put it that way. Based on market value, even five Four-tailed Cats wouldn’t be worth one Cyan-Scaled Flood Dragon,” Senior Brother Du insisted, holding his ground.

Seeing this, Li Qian thought for a moment. Then, an idea struck him. ”Alright, how about this? I’ll give you two options for the trade. You can choose one.”

”First, the offer I just made: one Cyan-Scaled Flood Dragon for the Four-tailed Cat. Second, a Five-tailed Cat.”

”A Five-tailed Cat?!” Li Qian’s words left Senior Brother Du even more astonished.

Li Qian explained with a smile, ”If you trust me, give me one semester at most. I’m confident I can evolve at least one Five-tailed Cat by then!

With his Golden Finger, Li Qian was full of confidence that he could figure out the evolution method for the Five-tailed Cat within that time frame.

Senior Brother Du looked at Li Qian and fell silent for a moment, wondering why he would propose such options.

He quickly stopped overthinking it and went with his gut. ”I want the Five-tailed Cat!”

”Alright!” Li Qian heard him and nodded.

On the surface, choosing the Cyan-Scaled Flood Dragon was undoubtedly the most profitable option. Even if Li Qian did manage to evolve a Five-tailed Cat, its Potential would still be slightly less than the Cyan-Scaled Flood Dragon’s.

Not to mention, the ”Five-tailed Cat” Li Qian spoke of seemed like nothing more than pie in the sky at this point.

Whether he could actually deliver was another matter entirely.

Although he didn’t know why Senior Brother Du insisted on choosing the Five-tailed Cat, which seemed like a castle in the air, Li Qian didn’t press the issue. He respected the decision and agreed to the terms.

”Here, this is the Beast Taming Ball for the Mutated Three-tailed Cat—the Four-tailed Cat.” Having made their verbal agreement, Senior Brother Du didn’t hesitate for a second, immediately handing over the Beast Taming Ball.

Li Qian was a little taken aback. He joked, ”Handing it over so readily? Aren’t you afraid I’ll just take it and run?”

Senior Brother Du smiled and pointed to his own eyes. ”I trust my judgment.”

Li Qian laughed along with him. ”You have good judgment.”

...

[Task One: The evolution method from a Three-tailed Cat to a Four-tailed Cat!]

[Current Task Progress: 85%!]

After wandering around Yuntian City and chatting with Senior Brother Du through lunch, Li Qian returned to Shazhou Beast Taming University around three in the afternoon. The moment he got back, he interfaced with his Golden Finger and created a task.

’It’s already at 85% progress the moment I created it. Looks like this task isn’t very difficult,’ Li Qian muttered to himself in his dorm room, looking at the task panel.

But on second thought, that made sense. If evolving a Three-tailed Cat into a Four-tailed Cat were difficult, there wouldn’t be so many of them around.

In truth, the reason Li Qian had targeted this task was precisely because it was an incremental one that could be broken down and completed one step at a time.

Otherwise, he would never have wasted a task slot on it. After all, figuring out the evolution method for a Legendary Pet Beast was completely beyond his current capabilities.
