The Fantastic Little Farmer

Chapter 165: Chapter 165: Best Friend

Zhang Yun hadn’t taken the room card. He originally planned to wait until they finished chatting before deciding on his next move. If Yang Xiaoyun left with her best friend right away, he would just stay the night by himself.

But now that He Xiong had ”kicked” him out, he had no choice but to bite the bullet and ring the doorbell.

”Coming!” someone inside answered, and the door was quickly opened.

Since Yang Xiaoyun had injured her foot, it was naturally her newly arrived friend who answered the door.

”Come in!” The friend was quite outgoing. As if afraid Zhang Yun might leave, she grabbed him and pulled him inside.

”Hello,” Zhang Yun greeted her, a bit shyly.

The friend was decently attractive, appearing about two or three years younger than Yang Xiaoyun. She dragged Zhang Yun straight into the room, looking him up and down with great interest.

”Feng Ru, don’t scare him! This is Zhang Yun, a guy from my hometown. I taught him during my post-graduation internship when he was just a junior high student,” Yang Xiaoyun introduced him formally.

Zhang Yun had heard her from across the hall earlier. Feng Ru’s first words had been about a ”young stud.” Obviously, when Yang Xiaoyun spoke to her, she had joked about having a handsome young man around.

”A student? Oh! Not bad at all.” Feng Ru immediately burst into a wicked chuckle and sat down next to Yang Xiaoyun. ”He’s all grown up now. A cougar like you can definitely feast on some fresh meat.”

”What are you talking about!” Yang Xiaoyun playfully slapped her, then said seriously, ”My foot is injured. Tang Zhiwei brought that homewrecker over to beat me up earlier. Zhang Yun happened to be around. When he found out, he was worried Tang Zhiwei would come back, so he helped me move into this room.”

”That bastard! If I had been there, I would’ve kicked him right in the balls and scratched that homewrecker’s ugly face to pieces! I’ve truly never seen anyone so utterly shameless!”

Feng Ru immediately started cursing loudly, wrapping her arms around Yang Xiaoyun to comfort her.

If it were just the two of them, the memories would have made Yang Xiaoyun cry out of anger again. But with Zhang Yun here, it was inconvenient to share the details of what happened when he was present, so she didn’t elaborate.

”Let’s not talk about that filthy couple! It just pisses me off. Help me move my stuff to your place later...”

As Yang Xiaoyun changed the subject, Feng Ru instantly looked troubled. ”My place... isn’t really convenient right now.”

”Huh? You... didn’t we agree...” Yang Xiaoyun’s expression changed drastically. Her current emotional stability came from her best friend’s support and help. If she had no place to stay and had to rent a new apartment on her own, she would feel utterly miserable, at least for the time being.

Feng Ru patted her shoulder and gave a helpless, bitter smile. ”Don’t misunderstand, of course you’re welcome. It’s just that this morning... my toilet broke. I’m contacting someone to replace it right now. Once it’s fixed, you can move in.”

”Your toilet broke?” Yang Xiaoyun smiled bitterly to herself. This excuse for a rejection certainly had a distinct flavor to it.

”Exactly! That’s why I hurried out. You can’t go to my place today, and in fact, I need to ask you guys to take me in for the night. I can’t stay at my house either.”

Seeing Zhang Yun walk away to wash cups and pour hot water, Feng Ru quickly winked at Yang Xiaoyun and pointed at him.

Yang Xiaoyun finally realized that Feng Ru wasn’t actually rejecting her; she was trying to create an opportunity for her. With an extra person around, things wouldn’t be awkward, and at the crucial moment, Feng Ru could just find an excuse to leave...

She scolded herself, ”Ahem! What am I thinking!”

She quickly glared at Feng Ru, her eyes signaling: ”This is a bad idea!”

Feng Ru immediately returned an encouraging look. It was obvious they hadn’t hooked up yet. If they couldn’t even make it happen in an out-of-town hotel, was she planning to wait for an opportunity after returning to their hometown?

”So... little brother Zhang Yun, you booked this room. Is it okay if Sister Xiaoyun stays for the night?”

”Of course, no problem!” Zhang Yun replied, though he thought to himself, ”When I booked this room, I didn’t even know about you.”

”Well, it’s not convenient for me to stay at my place right now, so can I stay here too?” Feng Ru immediately followed up.

”Sure. It’s a twin room, so one bed for each of you is perfect. I’ll just go book another room—”

Feng Ru quickly interrupted him. ”Don’t! The Hilton is really expensive. You’re close with Sister Xiaoyun, but you don’t even know me. It’s one thing for me to crash here, but how could I feel right making you book a whole other room? You might as well just kick me out and force me to awkwardly book one for myself.”

Zhang Yun didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. ”It’s not that serious. It’s just one extra room, I can afford it.”

”I know you’re generous, but I can’t accept that. You take one bed, and Sister Xiaoyun and I will just squeeze into the other. If you insist on leaving, then I’ll be the one who has to go.” Feng Ru put on a helpless expression.

Zhang Yun felt she was exaggerating. Was it because he looked too young? Did she think booking a room at the Hilton was already him stretching his wallet to the limit just to show off?

”Let’s just do that, okay?” Knowing that Feng Ru would eventually find an excuse to leave anyway, Yang Xiaoyun also looked at Zhang Yun and urged him to agree.

”Alright, it just makes me look a bit stingy. But if you guys don’t mind, I obviously don’t have a problem with it.”

Zhang Yun quickly agreed. Feng Ru was much closer to Yang Xiaoyun and better understood her situation, meaning she could provide the proper comfort.

Besides, with an unfamiliar friend here, Yang Xiaoyun wouldn’t tease him anymore, right? Things were definitely going to be inconvenient now, which made him feel slightly nostalgic for their private time...

”Sister Xiaoyun, Miss Feng, here’s some water.” Zhang Yun handed over the two cups of hot water.

When Feng Ru took the cup, she deliberately brushed her fingers against Zhang Yun’s hand. ”Why are you calling me ’Miss’? Call me Sister Ru!”

Yang Xiaoyun smiled. ”Exactly, ’Miss Feng’ sounds way too distant. You should call her Sister Ru, she loves acting younger than she is.”

”Sister Ru... sisters...”

”Sisters? Huh! Are you gay? Come here and let your big sister inspect you!” Feng Ru looked like she was ready to roll up her sleeves. ”Did you want to book another room just now because you’re a little gay guy, afraid we’d team up and have our wicked way with you?”

Zhang Yun was left speechless.

He smiled bitterly to himself. ”Divorced women really are uninhibited!” Both of them were divorcees, and they felt absolutely no moral burden when it came to making dirty jokes.

”Little brother Yun, you don’t look like you have a girlfriend. You’re not actually gay, are you?

”Aren’t you hot like that? Even though that suit looks incredibly handsome, you don’t have to wear it the whole time. Take it off so we can see your figure.

”What kind of work do you do? Where are you working now—”

Feng Ru was very skilled at making conversation. She questioned Zhang Yun, questioned Yang Xiaoyun, and talked about herself... chattering away endlessly so that Zhang Yun didn’t have to worry about any awkward silences.

After chatting for a while, she felt it was getting boring just sitting indoors.

”It’s a little early for lunch, so how about I treat you guys to some drinks? Let me see if there are any good cafes nearby.” Feng Ru pulled out her phone.

Zhang Yun and Yang Xiaoyun exchanged a glance; neither of them really wanted to go out.

Yang Xiaoyun’s foot was still hurting, so she didn’t want to move. As for Zhang Yun, there had been so many coincidences today that he was genuinely afraid he might run into members of the Ouyang Family just by going out for coffee.

”Whoa! Whoa!” Feng Ru suddenly cried out in shock.

Yang Xiaoyun slapped her on the thigh. ”Why are you screaming so loudly? Are you doing that on purpose for Zhang Yun to hear?”

”Look at this! Hahaha! What goes around comes around! That scumbag Tang Zhiwei and that homewrecker were both beaten so badly they’re in the hospital!”

Feng Ru excitedly showed her phone to Yang Xiaoyun.

Since she was Yang Xiaoyun’s best friend, even if she didn’t have Tang Zhiwei added as a contact, they likely shared a mutual Friends Circle. Zhang Yun wasn’t surprised by this, but he quickly tried to think of a way to change the subject.

After Yang Xiaoyun took a look, her eyes immediately darted over to him. Feifei’s broken nose was Tang Zhiwei’s doing, but how did Tang Zhiwei end up in the hospital too? From the looks of the post, it was serious—his nose was broken, and both of his legs were shattered as well.

Could he have been attacked by some other enemies? That would be too much of a coincidence!

When Zhang Yun went to buy breakfast earlier, he had taken quite a bit of time to come back...

Meeting her gaze, Zhang Yun knew he couldn’t hide it from her. He simply gave a slight shake of his head, signaling for her not to say anything in front of Feng Ru.

Tears instantly welled up in Yang Xiaoyun’s eyes!

Even if Zhang Yun wanted to stand up for her, he wouldn’t have known where to find Tang Zhiwei. He must have been ambushed by Tang Zhiwei while out buying breakfast! No wonder he immediately suggested switching hotel rooms upon returning...

”Crying tears of joy, right? Bastards like him always get what’s coming to them! They deserve to die!” Feng Ru cursed without holding back.

Yang Xiaoyun shook her head slightly. ”It wasn’t karma. Someone helped me...”

”Who would dare beat him up like that just to help you? This guy must have done way too many bad things. Evil people are destined to be tortured by even eviler people!”

Yang Xiaoyun was amused into letting out a small laugh. That ”eviler person” was sitting right in front of them.
