Cutesy Wife Sweet Like Honey: Mr. Mu's Nightly Dote!

Chapter 555: Chapter 598: What Is Happiness?

Watching her mother’s eyes dart nervously towards the door, Ye Anxin sighed and comforted her, ”Mom, you don’t have to be nervous! Even though we’re not a family in name, we’re still family by blood! Whatever it is, we can just talk it out! I’m not a fierce beast, when did you start getting this nervous in front of me?”

”I’m not afraid of you! It’s just... just...!” At this point, her mother couldn’t continue speaking.

Was she afraid that her daughter might tear apart her relationship?

In fact, she knew her relationship with Nan Mingchuan shouldn’t be this way! Yet she couldn’t control herself! She’s loved him for twenty-six years, longed for him for twenty-six years! She once thought it was unrequited, but now she realized their feelings were mutual! How could she bear to give up this relationship!

Especially since she had always been a soft-hearted woman! She couldn’t resist a man’s sweet talk and promises of eternity!

Many times, she had wanted to leave Ye Shan, but she couldn’t resist his sweet words, his wheedling; she believed he would change his ways, only to be disappointed time and again!

Now it’s the same! Especially now that this man is the one she deeply loves! She couldn’t resist his temptations even more!

At this moment, the dishes were served by the waiter!

Ye Anxin pushed a bowl of white rice in front of her mother and said with a smile, ”Mom, let’s eat first and talk about everything after the meal! You’re not in good health, you can’t starve, and neither can the child in my belly! Let’s eat first!”

”Okay!” Her mother nodded, picked up her bowl and chopsticks, and mechanically shoveled rice into her mouth! However, it was all tasteless, and she had no appetite at all! She was just forcing herself to eat so her daughter wouldn’t worry!

How could Ye Anxin not understand her mother’s feelings at this moment, she picked up some vegetables and put them into her mother’s bowl, ”Mom, have some vegetables! Just eating white rice will spoil your appetite!”

”Sure!” Her mother responded and put the vegetables that Ye Anxin served into her mouth!

After finishing the vegetables Ye Anxin gave her, she continued eating plain rice, not actively taking more.

Seeing her mother like this, Ye Anxin regretted it a little! She regretted that she should’ve waited until after the meal to talk properly with her mother, resulting in now making her mother unable to focus or have an appetite for the meal!

”Sigh...!” Ye Anxin sighed helplessly. Although she, too, had no appetite, she forced herself to finish a bowl of rice!

Just after finishing the meal, Nan Mingchuan walked in from outside!

”Anxin...!” Nan Mingchuan naturally sat beside Ye Anxin’s mother. When his gaze landed on Ye Anxin opposite, a smile immediately appeared on his face.

”...Dad...!” Although it felt strange to address a stranger as dad, a dad is a dad, and that’s an unchanging fact! So even though it was difficult to say, out of politeness, Ye Anxin forced herself to utter the word!

Hearing Ye Anxin call him, Nan Mingchuan’s smile deepened, and satisfaction filled his eyes, ”Anxin, do you know? Hearing you call me dad in my lifetime truly makes me happy, I never dared to hope you’d acknowledge me so soon!”

Ye Anxin forced a smile and said helplessly, ”You’re my dad, your blood flows in my veins, that’s something that cannot change! Besides, twenty-six years ago, it wasn’t you who abandoned my mom and me, so it’s not your fault, I have no reason to resent you! Most importantly, I don’t want my mom caught between two sides!”

”Such an understanding child!” Saying this, Nan Mingchuan contentedly clasped Ye Anxin’s mother’s hands, full of gratitude, ”Fang Chuo, thank you for giving me such an understanding child! Although Anxin can’t recognize her ancestry, knowing I have such a good daughter truly satisfies and brings me peace!”

When Nan Mingchuan clasped her mother’s hands, Ye Anxin’s mother immediately glanced at Ye Anxin guiltily and unnaturally withdrew her hands from his.

Nan Mingchuan was momentarily stunned, then comprehended Ye Anxin’s mother’s intention and sheepishly retracted his hands.

Watching Nan Mingchuan intimately be so openly indiscreet with her mother in her presence, Ye Anxin frowned in dissatisfaction!

She believed that before Nan Mingchuan divorced Xue Rong, and provided her mother with a legitimate status, this behavior was disrespectful to her mother!

If they were young lovers, such ardor would be understandable and excusable!

But they’d passed their prime, and Nan Mingchuan was a married man; in her opinion, such behavior, whether driven by love or other purposes, was inappropriate!

If he truly loved her, he should have nobly married her mother instead of lingering ambiguously, harming two women simultaneously! Such a man is the most selfish, the most irresponsible.

Ye Anxin said earnestly, ”Dad, I’d like to know, what kind of intention do you have towards my mom now?”

Nan Mingchuan also put on a serious face and earnestly replied, ”Of course, a genuine one, my feelings for your mom have never changed over the past twenty-six years!”

Ye Anxin asked, ”Then, what do you think happiness is?”

Nan Mingchuan didn’t immediately grasp her meaning, replying truthfully, ”She’s very happy now, and so am I. Two people being happy, that’s happiness!”

”You two are happy, but what about Aunt Xue?” Regarding an elder, Ye Anxin couldn’t call her by name; although she didn’t like Xue Rong, by generational respect, she politely called her Aunt.

”...!”

At Ye Anxin’s words, her mother’s face lost all color, turning as pale as paper.

While Nan Mingchuan’s face also fell silent, unable to speak for a while.

Ye Anxin said nothing more, just quietly watching them, awaiting their answer!

After a long silence, Nan Mingchuan finally opened his mouth, ”Anxin, I know what you’re implying? How do you want me to proceed?”

Ye Anxin spoke from her heart, ”You should know what I mean! I don’t want my mom to get hurt! If you keep dragging between two women, both will be hurt eventually! If you can’t give my mom happiness, then please don’t disrupt her life! It’s undeniable, my mom has loved you all these twenty-six years and never let go of her feelings for you! However, you shouldn’t be selfish, building your love on someone else’s pain! Even though I don’t like Aunt Xue, it’s undeniable that she’s a pitiable person! Her husband doesn’t love her, and her only daughter has left her! Could you truly bear to hurt her again?”

Listening to Ye Anxin’s lengthy discourse, Ye Anxin’s mother’s face looked even more terrible, lowering her head in shame, not daring to meet Ye Anxin’s gaze.

Nan Mingchuan’s face also grew deeper, lips tightly pressed together, seemingly suppressing some painful emotion.
