Not Being a Trainer This Time

”At the same time, that black fur on its body can also help it camouflage itself, keeping opponents from spotting it in the dark.”

Umbreon let out a clear, melodious cry: ”Bui～”

The blue rings on its body emitted a faint blue glow, looking incomparably mysterious.

Naoki smiled slightly, then turned his gaze to the remaining four Eevee that hadn’t evolved yet.

”Next I’m going to introduce you to Eevee evolutions that haven’t appeared on the ranch yet.”

Hearing this, the four Eevee all showed expectant expressions.

”Bui?” What kind of Eevee would it be?

”The first one, Leafeon.” Naoki pointed at the drawing of Leafeon on the blackboard. ”It’s a Grass Type Pokemon and can perform Synthesis like a flower. And precisely because of Synthesis, there is always a refreshing air and a unique grassy fragrance around Leafeon.”

”Bui bui?” One little Eevee stood up and asked curiously.

Seeing this, Naoki ate a few pieces of Translation Nuts Cake, then finally understood its question.

This little Eevee was asking: What does grassy fragrance smell like?

Naoki thought for a moment, then asked Koraidon to call Gogoat over, and had Gogoat use Grassy Terrain.

The next second, the room was flooded with a green light.

The air also took on a very unique grassy scent.

Watching the little Eevee twitch their black noses and sniff, Naoki said, ”It’s roughly this smell.”

”Bui!” One little Eevee really liked it.

Another little Eevee, however, looked troubled.

Seeing this, Naoki quickly had Gogoat withdraw the energy.

”Then next, I’m going to introduce Espeon. It’s the complete opposite of Umbreon—it can absorb sunlight and convert it into Psychic Power. Not only that, Espeon is also very good at using Future Sight.”

The Eevee looked at the image of the Eevee with pale purple fur, and their eyes lit up at once.

”Bui!” (Wow!)

That beautiful coat shimmered with a velvety sheen, looking extremely smooth. Not only that, there was also a very beautiful Ruby on Espeon’s forehead.

So pretty!

Naoki smiled faintly and continued, ”Next I’m going to introduce Sylveon.”

The Eevee shifted their gazes to the next photo.

The Eevee in that photo was a beautiful one with white and pink fur, with bows and lovely ribbons on its head.

”This is Sylveon, a Fairy Type Pokemon. Don’t be fooled by how gentle and cute it looks—Sylveon’s power is also very impressive. Even when facing Dragon Type Pokemon several times bigger than itself, they will leap at them without the slightest fear,” Naoki explained.

He observed the Eevee’s reactions, then asked, ”So, have you all already decided in your hearts what kind of Eevee you want to become in the future?”

At this point, Naoki suddenly remembered something, so he added:

”Of course, it’s fine if you don’t evolve. Although an unevolved Eevee can’t spit fire or water, it can develop in the direction of Partner Eevee.”

”And Eevee can also use a very powerful Move—Extreme Evoboost. In short, even if it doesn’t evolve, Eevee’s potential is still limitless.”

Extreme Evoboost, a Z-move from the Alola Region, works by calling upon the eight Pokemon that Eevee can evolve into and borrowing their power, merging the strength of Eevee’s nine forms into one. It’s Eevee’s ultimate trump card.

In the games, this Move also raises Eevee’s Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed by two stages each.

It’s just that to use this Move, the Trainer needs to wear a Z Ring and also hold Eevee’s exclusive Z Crystal.

The Eevee listened very earnestly to this explanation.

They stared at the photos on the blackboard, faces full of hesitation, and for a long time couldn’t make up their minds.

Naoki wasn’t in a hurry. Although he really wanted to collect every Type of Eevee, if an Eevee didn’t want to evolve into a particular evolution, he couldn’t very well force it to evolve...

On this matter, Naoki chose to respect the Eevee’s wishes.

However, before the remaining four little Eevee could decide, the already evolved Flareon ran up.

”Bui bui!” (Naoki, Naoki, I want to evolve into Partner Eevee!)

Black lines popped up on Naoki’s forehead. ”You’ve already evolved! Eevee that have already evolved can’t devolve!”

”Bui...” Flareon was so dejected.

Seeing it like this, Naoki couldn’t bear it. Thinking about it, this was partly his fault. If only he had introduced the evolution forms to the Eevee earlier, or put those Evolution Stone away properly.

But what was done was done; there was no way to change it now.

He could only comfort it: ”Don’t be sad, Flareon is really strong too. When winter comes you can help us make a fire and keep warm—you’re also a very capable Eevee.”

Flareon became very excited. ”Bui bui?” (Really? Then does Naoki like me?)

Naoki smiled and rubbed its head. ”Of course. I’ll even have to ask you to help warm up my bed then!”

Flareon in winter, Glaceon in summer—practically perfect.

”Bui!” Hearing this, Flareon no longer wanted to evolve into any other Eevee; it really liked how it was now.

And at this moment, the remaining four little Eevee had also made their decisions.

”Bui!” (I like the smell of grass; I want to evolve into Leafeon!)
