The Interstellar Queen of Scavengers

Chapter 1362: Chapter 1362: Ji You, the Enigmatic

Three arrows, their tips aimed right at the enemy camp’s squad leader. Although they didn’t take his life, they carried a significant threat. The squad leader knew the opposing side was sending a warning, and he suddenly stood up, walked to the lookout tower, and stared through layers of darkness at the place across where the flames were burning.

With just one glance, the squad leader suddenly felt as though he had collided with a pair of terrifying eyes. He blinked and found nothing there.

Yet, it was indeed very frightening. It felt like a fierce tiger was lurking there, ready to pounce on someone, and he was its chosen target.

The squad leader shifted his gaze but couldn’t shake off the feeling of being watched. It clung to him, making him feel a tingling sensation all over his body.

The squad leader pinched his palm hard, feeling the pain revive his senses. He didn’t dare to linger at the lookout tower any longer and quickly retreated indoors.

The squad leader suddenly asked, ”Do you know who’s leading the enemy this time?”

Who?

This question stumped everyone present.

One second.

Two seconds.

Three seconds.

...

A girl thought for a moment and said, ”Commander Charles mentioned that there are three people in the Fifth Camp to watch out for: Commander Gu Peiyuan, Guan Ning from the First Army, and Yu Jin from the Seven Army. From the chant we just heard, the leader’s a girl, so it’s—Guan Ning?”

The squad leader squinted his eyes: ”From the First Army?”

The people from the Alliance’s First Legion are indeed strong.

But!

The squad leader shook his head and said, ”It doesn’t quite feel like her; the impression Guan Ning gives me isn’t quite like that... so... so...”

Unable to find the right adjective for a moment, the squad leader frowned, paused, then continued, ”Guan Ning is very strong; in all aspects, her scores surpass mine. But the difference between us isn’t so vast as to be insurmountable. The feeling Guan Ning gives isn’t so unfathomable! Yes, that gaze from earlier sent shivers down my spine, leaving no room for resistance or the strength to escape.”

How... how could this happen?

Not even his mentor has ever made him feel this terrified. The squad leader frowned deeply, looking utterly puzzled.

Others frowned deeply too.

Suddenly—

A girl said, ”I remember Louise Carter mentioned to Commander Charles that there’s someone in the enemy camp to especially beware of.”

”Who?”

All at once, everyone looked at the girl, including the squad leader, who stared intently at her.

The girl thought for a moment and said, ”Ji You.”

”What?”

”Ji You?”

”Who is that?”

As soon as this name came up, no wonder everyone was baffled because this name hadn’t appeared on the test rankings at all. Players entering the battlefield always paid attention to the ranking lists beforehand, especially focusing on the top 100, needing to either recruit allies or eliminate enemies early...

But Ji You?

Who is that?

People are lost in thought when suddenly, a slightly dark-skinned boy exclaimed, ”I remember her! She’s ranked bottom on the test rankings.”

Crowd: ”!!!”

Squad leader: ”Huh?”

The dark-skinned boy looked at everyone, his mouth twitching slightly as he added, ”Ji You from Lanyue Star Military Academy, you know now?”

”What?!!”

”It’s her!!!”

”That notorious idiot!!!”

Hearing this, the squad leader suddenly recalled something, ”It’s Ji You ranked 100 on United University’s list!”

After the Freshman year’s final exams, United University updated its official rankings, attracting a lot of attention. Shen Sheng from the First Army, and Ji You, the second-ranked idiot from Lanyue Star Military Academy, these two freshman students entered the United University rankings with stellar performances.

Then, Shen Sheng from the First Army seemed unstoppable, continuously challenging up, rising ranks and gaining more attention.

But!

The second freshman Ji You remained low-key. She seemed to have no intention to strive upwards, staying at the 100th rank discreetly. Many reportedly challenged her, but she avoided them, embodying the term coward.

Ji You’s low profile resulted in the ebbing of her popularity, while others on the United University rankings gained prominence, leading to diminished attention toward her. Hence, Ji You entered the inter-school competitions without making much of a stir.

Many didn’t even recall Ji You ever existed.

At this moment, hearing the name made everyone at the Charles Commander Base widen their eyes: ”!!!”

The squad leader clasped his hands, a hint of heaviness in his tone, ”I was wrong; Commander Charles was wrong too. Our assessments at the time were all wrong! Why did we think someone who reached rank 100 was just a small character?”

At that time, Louise Carter tried convincing Commander Charles to beware of Ji You, but Charles was dismissive; the squad leaders also felt no need to give too much attention as Ji You’s test scores wouldn’t earn her much of a position, in circumstances requiring high position to open a situation, a mere low-rank soldier couldn’t cause much trouble, right?

But—

Squad leader frowned intensely. After a moment, he said urgently, ”This kind of enemy, engaging her head-on won’t work, get that thing over here quickly.”

A girl couldn’t help but say, ”It’s not a cause to deploy that thing yet, right?”

The squad leader frowned intensely, ”I’m afraid by the time we want to use it, we might not have a chance to use it at all.”

”Impossible, right?”

”Can Ji You be that strong?”

”We currently have over two hundred people; if we go all out, they’ll surely suffer too; besides, we just need to stall till Commander Charles returns.”

”But we haven’t done our homework on Ji You; we don’t know what kind of person she is, what tactics she’s good at...” The squad leader felt a sense of anxiety and said, ”Prepare everything, and once we’re overpowered, deploy immediately.”

The girl said, ”Really planning for the worst-case scenario?”

The squad leader pursed his lips, ”I’m determined, we must prepare for the worst. Heidi, you handle this matter.”

”Yes.” Immediately, the girl called Heidi turned and left.

Then—

A series of arrow flights sounded from outside.

Whoosh—

Whoosh—

Whoosh—

Heidi paused slightly in her steps, lightly lifted her head to glance outside, as the enemy’s weapons continued firing randomly towards their base; these prodigals seemed to not understand to conserve. Despite barely hitting the target, arrows kept being launched in volleys.

Utterly annoying and hateful.

Heidi took a glance without daring to pause her steps. Even from these playful shots, although non-lethal, the pressure they brought was immense. Merely listening to those hovering sounds, Heidi and the squad leader couldn’t afford any negligence, keeping alert to face it, tightening their spirit to the utmost.
