The Interstellar Queen of Scavengers

Chapter 1358: Chapter 1358: Fireworks

Charles Commander Base.

The smell of porridge fills the air, constantly eroding the taste buds of those inside the walls, making them uncomfortable. Meanwhile, the opposing shorty named ’Ji You’, leading her army, is continuously circling the base, keeping the nerves of those inside the walls at their breaking point!

Everyone kept a straight face, looking at each other.

Silence.

More silence.

Meanwhile—

Outside the walls, those enchanting slogans are continuously approaching, turning their faces darker and darker.

”Move those little hands, step those little feet, thrust those little chests, one two one, one two one...”

”Stretch your arms, bend your waist, kick your legs, bounce bounce jump...”

”One two one, one two one...”

...

Bam! Someone couldn’t hold it any longer and swung his fist, punching the stone wall hard: ”I can’t take it anymore, I’m going out to cut her down!”

The people next to him saw him so impulsive it was clearly a suicidal move, and for a moment, nobody dissuaded him, instead egging him on:

”You go.”

”Be bold.”

”Even if you die, we won’t collect your corpse.”

Hearing this, he rolled his eyes but eventually didn’t go out for a suicidal attack. Instead, he sat back down and said, ”You cowards are all cowering, do you know we’re about to face a disaster? We’re just like cattle and sheep being penned up, could die at any moment, so why not unite and fight our way out for survival?”

This made sense.

But!

What about the Array Flag?

They can run, but the Array Flag can’t run.

The base’s Squad Leader thought it over and said, ”There’s no news from Commander Charles yet, our mission is to guard the Array Flag, ignore everything else, understood?”

The Array Flag is their lifeline.

How could they lead a charge and leave their lifeline behind?

The Deputy Commander who had been sitting quietly with a sullen face finally raised his head and suddenly asked, ”What should we do now?”

What to do?

Of course, let the enemy do whatever they want. You can’t stop them from just cooking porridge, running around, doing some drills, and even if they relieve themselves outside the walls, we can’t stop them.

Of course, the Squad Leader didn’t say this.

The Squad Leader’s only task was to protect the Array Flag and wait for Commander Charles to return with the troops, ignoring everything else.

Thinking this but definitely not bluntly saying it out loud, instead using gentle wording, the Squad Leader thought for a moment and then said, ”Remember, the Array Flag is our foundation, if our small numbers charge out and fight the enemy head-on, it would only cause unnecessary damage. Conversely, if we stay inside the base, using the fortress as the center, consolidate defense, increase patrols, as long as the enemy dares to come, we kill one for each one, kill two for each pair!”

There being no good solution to resolve the current stalemate, everyone listened to the Squad Leader and had no other objections. Soon, according to the Squad Leader’s instructions, the entire base from top to bottom tightened its defenses.

The Deputy Commander also went up the wall; he looked at the distant burning bonfire from which the scent of rice kept wafting over. The enemy troops were still circling the base. These sly enemies, although running circles around the base, never cease measuring the distance to the base but stop immediately upon reaching the critical point, never entering the enemy’s firing range.

The Deputy Commander squinted his eyes.

One, two, three...

The light was too dim so the Deputy Commander couldn’t determine the exact number of enemies, only estimating a rough number, but that was enough to make his heart pound with fear.

He held the flare in his hand, thinking about whether to report to Louise Carter or not? Although openly they followed Commander Charles’s orders, he really preferred Louise Carter’s philosophy and tactics, so he secretly switched allegiance to Louise Carter’s team.

This flare, he spent much effort making, similar to fireworks, ignites and explodes dazzling sparks in the sky.

Once ignited, everyone would know, friend and foe alike.

Light it?

Or not?

If lit, Louise Carter would surely lead a team to the rescue. Thus, the people inside the walls and Louise’s troops could encircle the enemy together.

Not lighting it?

If not, the base could only continue the stalemate with the enemy. Our side had no food, everyone was hungry, morale was low. And the enemy? Although each soldier was strong, they had flaws too, for instance, lacking shelter from wind, rain, cold. If temperature drops further, they might retreat naturally or straight start an attack.

If they attack the city, it’s manageable; the base has contingencies ready for use. They just need to defend this area, preventing an enemy breach to stabilize the situation.

After contemplating for a long time, the Deputy Commander gritted his teeth, steeled himself, and ignited the flare.

Whoosh—

Bam! Bam! Bam!

A burst of dazzling and blinding fireworks rose into the air above the enemy base, of course startling everyone, both friend and foe.

The Squad Leader saw this scene and was startled: ”Who did it?”

”Who’s behind this?”

He immediately sent someone to find out who was behind this, but before anyone was sent out, the Deputy Commander came in to admit he released the signal.

Then.

He explained his plan fully and frankly to the Squad Leader, ending with ”Regardless of Louise Carter’s position, he is with us overall, inviting him over to jointly eliminate these enemy forces is our priority.”

Upon hearing this, the Squad Leader gave him a complicated look, then said, ”You let off the firecracker already; saying this now is pointless, but if Louise Carter is willing to come, it’s good for us.”

In other words, he didn’t plan to pursue the matter.

Then.

The two sat down and began waiting.

second.

seconds.

seconds.

...

”Why isn’t anyone here yet?” The Deputy Commander suddenly stood up, walked to the side of the wall, and looked into the distance. Amidst the darkness, only the light from the enemy’s bonfire brought a slight glow. Then, he suddenly noticed someone holding a torch, waving at him, seemingly saying something.

Hmm?

Saying what?

The Deputy Commander couldn’t help stepping closer, trying to hear better. At this point, he was already standing by the railing of the wall, faintly hearing a female voice: ”Thank you, your fireworks are beautiful, everyone said they liked them.”

The Deputy Commander’s face immediately turned dark.

The damning thing is that the girl was smiling and making a request: ”Do you have more? Everyone strongly requests another shot.”

Deputy Commander: ”...”

The Deputy Commander almost ripped off the wall’s handrail.
