The Interstellar Queen of Scavengers

Chapter 1360: Chapter 1360: Loose on the Outside, Tight on the Inside

Lips turning pale, a thin layer of sweat appears on her forehead, accompanied by a wave of nausea, but Ji You is determined to maintain her image as a top-notch expert no matter what.

In short, she needs to keep showing off.

So, Ji You waved her hand and said to Guan Ning, ”Feel free to give it a try.”

Guan Ning was indeed eager to try. As a student from the Alliance First Military Academy, she considered herself just as capable as anyone else present, and thus picked up a longbow and drew it in front of everyone—

With a swoosh, the arrow shot out swiftly. Given its momentum, it seemed not a bit less powerful than Ji You’s previous shot. However, as air resistance increased, the speed of the arrow slowed down...

second.

seconds.

seconds.

...

The arrow fell.

The arrow, which carried Guan Ning’s hopes and sparked curiosity among the onlookers, stopped about 1000 meters from the city wall and fell straight to the ground.

Guan Ning was very disappointed and said, ”With my arm strength, it seems it’s still not enough.”

Seeing Guan Ning’s disappointment, everyone kindly said, ”That’s good enough, reaching 1000 meters on the first try.”

”Really good, on my first try I didn’t even shoot 500 meters.”

”We’re in a headwind, so the wind resistance is too great. Reaching a 1000-meter range is already beyond a normal person’s level.”

”You’re an expert!”

...

Listening to everyone’s consolation, Guan Ning felt somewhat discontented for some unknown reason, and then she looked down at Ji You.

Ji You said, ”It’s not bad, just a little inferior to me, that’s all.”

Guan Ning: ”...”

Guan Ning finally understood why she felt off earlier! It’s all because here, with Ji You’s brilliant performance preceding her, her own shooting skills really seem shameful.

Guan Ning pursed her lips and said, ”I’m not like you, you’re a brute, I’m human.”

”Haha...” Ji You laughed aloud, ”Keep it up, aim to catch up to my level soon.”

Guan Ning: ”...”

Feeling frustrated, Guan Ning picked up her bowl of congee and drank it all in one go.

Once the congee was ready, the large army running laps around the city wall followed Ji You’s pace and gathered at the temporary stove, each holding a bowl of congee.

This steaming congee, once drunk and entered into the stomach, filled them with comfort, quickly dispelling the chill throughout their bodies. Many held their bowls of congee and contentedly closed their eyes.

Then.

Everyone suddenly heard a subtle sound of something piercing through the air!

Who?

Everyone was startled and quickly looked over, only to see another person step out to shoot at the enemy’s military base.

That was—

The former commander, Gu Peiyuan.

Gu Peiyuan’s thin lips were tightly pressed, his eyes narrowed, looking cold, releasing one arrow, then a second, third, fourth...

In an instant, nine arrows were unleashed simultaneously.

The momentum of those arrows was not inferior at all, compared to Ji You’s silent shooting and Guan Ning’s aggressive but unsuccessful attempt.

”Will it succeed?”

”It should, right?”

”Looking at his stance, it should be possible.”

...

Amidst the chatter, Gu Peiyuan remained silent, looking as cold as ice; meanwhile, his eyes subtly glanced at Ji You several times.

Humph~

You country bumpkins, watch closely—

My shooting skills, Gu Peiyuan’s, are where true mastery lies.

Next second.

”Bang! Bang! Bang!”

Several dull thuds sounded, and those nine aggressive arrows crashed into a stone and all fell.

Gu Peiyuan’s face turned dark instantly.

”Impossible!”

”I’ve calculated it; at least one-third of these nine arrows should hit!” His face was full of disbelief, unable to accept what he saw.

Then.

Laughter erupted below:

”The stance is there, but the accuracy isn’t.”

”Also, your range isn’t great; it’s not even 500 meters.”

”Half as good as Guan Ning.”

Listening to the criticisms and jeers, Gu Peiyuan stood his ground, saying, ”How can you compare us? She shot one arrow, while I shot nine! Understand?”

”Well, you could just shoot one arrow too.”

”Yeah, don’t say we’re bullying you; you can try shooting one, can’t you?”

”Former Commander, try once more!”

Gu Peiyuan listened to their teasing, initially unaffected, but when he heard the term ”former commander,” his face turned dark, and he drew his bow to shoot another arrow.

Swoosh—

This arrow flew straight towards the enemy’s building. With everyone eagerly watching, it stopped less than 10 meters away.

Instantly, laughter rang out again.

”No good.”

”Still no good.”

”Absolutely no good.”

And so, Gu Peiyuan’s face darkened once more.

After failing the second time, Gu Peiyuan rubbed his hands, prepared to try a third time. Besides him, other archers couldn’t resist itching to join in the fun.

Then, everyone heard Ji You wave her hand boldly, saying, ”Anyone who hits the wall gets rewarded with a bowl of congee! No, half a bowl of congee! Kill an enemy, you get a bowl of congee.”

Upon hearing this, everyone got excited.

Although the prize wasn’t that impressive, changing from a bowl to half, who would mind more congee? No one was full, and everyone was tightening their belts.

So, more people joined the shooting.

Swoosh—

Swoosh—

Swoosh—

Arrows shot everywhere, around the enemy camp, like demons dancing chaotically. Some with poor aim dropped in mere dozens of meters; those with good aim managed to shoot over halfway, and some even hit the base of the enemy wall...

Witnessing these scenes, it looked quite unruly, but discerning observers recognized that Ji You’s team appeared loose yet was tightly bonded.

Charles Commander Base.

The Squad Leader looked at the noisy people across, filled with fury: ”These scoundrels think we’re dead?”

”Ahem...” Someone coughed slightly, muttering, ”Maybe they really think we’re dead.”

Although he spoke softly, the Squad Leader with sharp ears heard it and glared at him: ”Shut up.”

The person immediately fell silent.

The Squad Leader paced around the small room. The enemy surrounding but not attacking posed a real problem for them. If this continued, they’d all be in trouble.

A solution was needed.

The Squad Leader furrowed his brow tightly, still without any good ideas. Due to the limitations of ranged weapons, they couldn’t directly attack from the city wall and could only dispatch a troop to face the enemy. If they could break through, it would be an opportunity to resolve the crisis.

But—

Within the base, the manpower amounted to only 203 people, while the enemy forces were half more than theirs. How could they fight? Dispatching troops wouldn’t pose a problem for the enemy but would just send people to their deaths instead.

For a moment.

The Squad Leader felt so anxious that his hair might go bald.
