Urban Martial Saint

After lunch, Ye Qing went to the hospital again, mainly to visit the little boy.

Having had two bowls of traditional Chinese medicine today, Ye Qing’s strength was gradually recovering. Although he was still far from his former condition, he had no problem walking around like a normal person.

The little boy had been transferred to the hospital where Lin Tianyou was staying, and his hospitalization fees were also paid for by Lin Tianyou. The culprit had yet to be found, no one had come forward to offer compensation, and the only support was the little over ten thousand yuan donated by kind-hearted people, which was but a drop in the bucket for the boy’s situation.

In the ward, Ye Qing met the little boy’s grandmother, a woman over seventy years old. Hunched over, she sat beside the little boy’s bed, her hands busy sewing shoe pads. The little boy shined shoes, and she made a living by selling shoe pads—these were the two’s sources of income, just enough to feed them.

Now that the little boy was seriously injured, it was really not an easy task for the grandmother to support both lives with her income.

Seeing someone coming in, the grandmother hurriedly stood up, awkwardly offering her seat to Ye Qing.

When she heard from Lin Tianyou that it was Ye Qing who had saved the little boy, she burst into tears and suddenly knelt down, kowtowing to Ye Qing repeatedly.

”Great benefactor, great benefactor, thank you, good deeds bring good karma...” The grandmother was very emotional, her only grandson, now also her only reason for living.

Ye Qing quickly helped her up, his own mood heavy. Why was it that such a family had to suffer this misfortune, while that reckless driver was still at large? Where was the justice and fairness in this society!

Ye Qing and Lin Tianyou took a while to console the grandmother until she finally stopped crying. However, looking at her grandson on the bed, tears couldn’t help but well up in her eyes again.

Ye Qing asked Lin Tianyou in a low voice, ”Is it just the two of them in their family?”

Lin Tianyou fell silent for a moment before replying softly, ”She has a son, the child’s father. But he was crushed to death in the accident at Beihua Residential Area a few days ago. The child was still in school, but after his father died, he had to drop out!”

Ye Qing frowned and slowly clenched his fists. There were three fatalities in that accident; who knew how many other families were in the same situation as this one?

Ye Qing sat in the ward for a while before rushing to the ward where Zhao Chengshuang was staying.

Surprised and excited to see Ye Qing able to walk and move, Zhao Chengshuang blurted out, ”Ye brothers, how did you recover so quickly? Did you take some kind of wonder drug? Is there any left? Get me some; if I have to lie in this bed any longer, I’m going to get moldy!”

Ye Qing glanced at Old Wang Ba, who shrugged his shoulders and said, ”There is medicine, but it’s not suitable for your condition. I’m afraid it might have side effects. Just imagine if after you take it, you end up with something like kidney deficiency, that would be a real trouble.”

”Then forget it!” Zhao Chengshuang hurriedly waved his hands and shook his head in refusal.

Ye Qing sat down beside the bed and said, ”I want to ask you a question.”

With a wave of his hand, Zhao Chengshuang replied, ”There’s no need to be so formal between us. Just ask whatever question you have!”

Ye Qing was silent for a moment before speaking softly, ”Why hasn’t the hit-and-run driver been caught yet?”

Hearing this, Zhao Chengshuang also furrowed his brows. After a moment of silence, he said, ”Ye Qing, I know your personality, you can’t tolerate injustice. But this matter isn’t that simple to deal with.”

Ye Qing said in a stern tone, ”Why isn’t it simple to deal with? So many people saw the license plate, so many could testify, why can’t they catch the person?”

”The situation is complicated...” Zhao Chengshuang said, ”First of all, after the inspection, there were no signs of his car being hit, so those eyewitness testimonies aren’t very useful. Moreover, the surveillance cameras at the scene were broken, and no footage from that day could be found, making it impossible to find solid evidence.”

Zhao Chengshuang paused for a moment before continuing in a serious tone, ”Moreover, the owner of that car is a well-known figure in Shenchuan City. Without evidence, there’s nothing we can do about it!”

Ye Qing’s brows furrowed even tighter. He had witnessed the accident with his own eyes, so how could there be no evidence according to Zhao Chengshuang?

”Ye Qing, I advise you not to meddle in this matter anymore. Without evidence, it will only cause more trouble,” Zhao Chengshuang said, looking at Ye Qing, ”Besides, that case doesn’t fall under our jurisdiction, and I don’t know much about the specifics. However, I can assure you that the boy will definitely receive a substantial compensation.”

Ye Qing looked at Zhao Chengshuang and said sternly, ”Where will this compensation come from?”

”I don’t know. Someone higher up told me that the boy will definitely get compensated,” Zhao Chengshuang replied, looking at Ye Qing, ”Ye Qing, let me be honest with you. This case involves too much. The boy didn’t die, so why be so pedantic about it? If you make too much of a fuss, the culprit may not be punished, and the boy might not even get the compensation.

Sometimes, it’s not necessary to be so serious about everything, is it?”

Ye Qing suddenly stood up, his voice heavy, ”Zhao Chengshuang, I don’t think so. In life, some things must be taken seriously.”

Zhao Chengshuang said, ”Ye Qing, can’t you contain your temper? What’s the use of always being so angry? Let me tell you, this time, this person isn’t like those criminals you’ve encountered before who deserved their fate. If you blow this up, I’m afraid you’ll be in trouble too. With these things, it’s better to just let them slide!”

”Impossible!” Ye Qing shook his head decisively and said, ”When that car first hit that child, he could have been spared such severe injuries, he could have kept that arm. But instead of getting out to help, the driver sped up and ran over him again, brutally severing the child’s arm. Such a brutal beast, allowing him to go unpunished, who knows how many similar incidents could happen in the future.

This matter, he must be taught a painful lesson, one he’ll remember for the rest of his life!”

Zhao Chengshuang was at a loss for words; he knew Ye Qing’s temper. Once Ye Qing had made up his mind, there was no persuading him.

Zhao Chengshuang sighed and said, ”Ye Qing, I’m also thinking of your best interest. I’m angry about this situation too. But, you have to understand, the other party was driving a Ferrari, a car that could sell for three to five million. Do you know how many assassins you could buy with three to five million?”

”Then I’ll wait for his assassins!” Ye Qing replied coldly.

Zhao Chengshuang was completely out of words and stared at Ye Qing for a good while before saying, ”Ah, why does someone as stubborn as you still exist in this world?”

Ye Qing remained silent; on this issue, he would absolutely not compromise!

He stayed in the hospital until past four and then left for the company.

Although he hadn’t fully recovered, it wasn’t to the extent that it affected his work.

Upon returning to the company, Ye Qing sensed an odd atmosphere. As soon as he entered, many people were staring at him, their gazes varying.

Ye Qing was puzzled and wanted to go to the office to greet Mu Qingrong. Just as he reached the door, he heard Mu Qingrong’s indignant voice.

”Is this the planning proposal you came up with? Why didn’t you consult me first? Why didn’t you let me review it?” Mu Qingrong’s voice was very angry, it seemed she was very upset.

Wang Xuan said, ”Director Mu, you didn’t come to the company at all these past few days. Lin Corporation was pressing hard, and since I couldn’t find you, I had to take action myself. Most of this planning proposal was done by Ye Qing, I merely made some final improvements. If Lin Corporation doesn’t agree with our planning proposal, I think, most of the responsibility should lie with Ye Qing.

It shouldn’t all be blamed on me alone!”

Mu Qingrong replied, ”The planning proposal made by Ye Qing has already been approved by Lin Corporation. Since they chose this proposal, it should have been handed over to Ye Qing to continue making it work. But without my consent, you went ahead and altered Ye Qing’s planning proposal, and even caused the company to lose the deal. You must bear the main responsibility!”

Wang Xuan’s inner anger stirred but he kept his face unchanged and said, ”Regardless of the reason, the company must have someone to rely on in such times. Director Mu, I may have made some mistakes, but I genuinely did it for the good of the company, there was no malice!”

Mu Qingrong felt uncomfortable upon hearing this and said sternly, ”I’ll say it again, he was sick, not absent without a reason!”

Wang Xuan couldn’t contain his agitation, but managed to keep his composure and argued, ”No matter the reason, someone has to step up to lead the company in times like these. Director Mu, even if I was a bit misguided in my actions, I really had the company’s best interest at heart!”

Mu Qingrong rubbed her temples. The loss of Lin Corporation’s business made her very angry. However, she also bore responsibility and couldn’t place all the blame on Wang Xuan alone.

”Forget it, go and take care of the Jinlong Group’s business,” Mu Qingrong said, waving her hand weakly and leaning back on the sofa behind her, nearly exhausted.

Wang Xuan walked out of the office and saw Ye Qing standing at the door. A flash of annoyance crossed his eyes. Director Mu’s words just now had intensified his jealousy towards Ye Qing.

Ye Qing nodded politely at Wang Xuan before entering Mu Qingrong’s office.

Mu Qingrong, without looking to see who it was, waved her hand and said, ”Whatever it is, let’s talk tomorrow!”

Ye Qing approached the desk, looked at Mu Qingrong, and said, ”Director Mu, about Lin Corporation’s business, I think I could give it another shot!”

Mu Qingrong looked up sharply at Ye Qing, taken aback. Just yesterday, Ye Qing was struggling to walk, and now, it seemed like he had vastly improved and was back at the office.

Mu Qingrong got up hurriedly and said, ”How come you’re out already? You haven’t fully recovered yet, you need to rest more!”

Ye Qing moved his arm around a bit and stated, ”I’m almost fully recovered, and I can handle the company’s business now.”

Mu Qingrong truly valued Lin Corporation’s business because it was critical for her company’s future development, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Ye Qing’s handling of Das Group’s business had already proven his capabilities. If Ye Qing could take on this project, Mu Qingrong would, of course, be overjoyed.

”You… you’re really okay?” Mu Qingrong asked in a low voice, her tone unable to hide her hopefulness.

Ye Qing smiled faintly and said, ”No problem!”
