Urban Martial Saint

Suddenly, the door was pushed open, and Director Huang Bingyao revealed his chubby face, smiling as he said, ”Cheng Shuang, the case last night was handled very well. This time, our branch has really made a name for itself, and the TV station will come to interview about it this afternoon, so get ready. Also, when Director Deng arrives later, you should make a good report!”

”No problem!” Zhao Chengshuang replied with a smile. He had already prepared a draft of the report last night and memorized it thoroughly.

”By the way, where’s your friend from last night?” asked Huang Bingyao. ”I heard those seven suspects say they were beaten by the same person. Is your friend here? If he is, it would be best if he also said a few words.”

Zhao Chengshuang hurriedly said, ”I’m afraid that won’t be possible, he’s in the military, and it’s not appropriate for him to be in the spotlight. Besides, he was just passing by here and has already returned to his unit. Let’s not trouble him!”

Zhao Chengshuang had a good plan in mind. If he brought Ye Qing here, then Ye Qing would take a significant share of the credit. Naturally, he didn’t want Ye Qing to come. How could he be willing to share such a big achievement with someone else?

”Oh, I see.” Huang Bingyao nodded and said, ”Then you polish up your report, and explain why your friend couldn’t come. Although the Military District isn’t part of the same system as ours, after all, we are all serving the people, and the higher-ups won’t hold this responsibility against anyone.”

”Understood.” Zhao Chengshuang nodded repeatedly, saw Huang Bingyao off, and then looked anxiously toward the front door.

It wasn’t until 9:30 in the morning that a police car finally arrived at the main entrance, bearing the insignia of the headquarters.

Needless to say, this must have been Vice Director Deng Liyang from the headquarters arriving.

Zhao Chengshuang became even more anxious. Why hadn’t the old man arrived yet? He wanted to make the report in front of his father, as that would surely make his father proud!

Upon Deng Liyang’s arrival, the leaders of the branch immediately went to greet him, and even Zhao Chengshuang was pulled along by Mo Zhixing.

Deng Liyang, forty-five years old, was younger than the leaders of the branch. He held a high position at headquarters, and people said he was very likely to be the next Director. His personal visit to the branch underlined the headquarters’ high regard for this matter.

”Cheng Shuang!” Deng Liyang shook hands with Zhao Chengshuang, smiling as he said, ”You really are formidable as a younger generation, solving such a big case in less than an hour and making a name for our Shenchuan City police. If we had more young people like you in the force, we old folks could rest easy!”

Huang Bingyao laughed and said, ”Director Deng is too modest. How old are you? Still young!”

”No, no, time spares no one,” said Deng Liyang, patting his shoulder. ”I used to be able to run a few laps with the troops, but not anymore. As people age, they have to accept it. Seeing you young guys, I really do envy you!”

Amid the pleasantries, Zhao Chengshuang was somewhat distracted, still looking toward the entrance of the branch.

Finally, a black sedan with a military license plate drove in through the entrance of the branch.

Seeing the car, many of the leaders recognized who must be inside it, and even Deng Liyang immediately went to greet him.

As the car door opened, a man in his fifties, with a bright demeanor, stepped out from the car in front of it. His back was straight, his body like a javelin, and his eyes were bright and spirited, a vitality that belied his age.

”Old Commander, what kind of wind has blown you this way?” Deng Liyang said, greeting the man with a handshake and a smile.

This man was Zhao Chengshuang’s father, Zhao Jianjun, the Commissar of the Shenchuan Military District, with a deep military background. Deng Liyang had served under him in the military before joining the police force and had risen quickly with the support of the Military District.

”Just getting out for a bit,” said Zhao Jianjun, glancing at Zhao Chengshuang. ”Director Deng, I hope this boy hasn’t caused you any trouble?”

”Old Commander, you must be joking. As the saying goes, ’Like father, like son,’ Cheng Shuang has really given the police force a great name!” Deng Liyang replied with a smile.

Zhao Jianjun had mostly figured out what happened the night before and was very pleased. His often disappointing son had finally made him proud. If it weren’t for the great achievement Zhao Chengshuang had made, he would have never come over!

Zhao Jianjun said with a smile, ”While he’s here, I’m going to trouble you to discipline him more. This kid has been troublesome since he was little, and I’ve been thinking about sending him to the army for a couple of years of training.”

Huang Bingyao joked, ”Oh, please, no, Commissar Zhao, if you take him away, wouldn’t our police department lose a talent?”

”Hahaha...” Zhao Jianjun laughed heartily. If anyone had said this in front of him before, he certainly wouldn’t have shown them any good humor, but this time, he was genuinely delighted!

Huang Bingyao ushered everyone into the conference room, where Zhao Chengshuang reported in front of everyone, recounting his efforts in catching the suspects the previous night. Of course, it was actually Ye Qing who had done the work, but he attributed all of Ye Qing’s actions to himself.

As for Ye Qing’s role, he merely mentioned him in passing, saying he was just a friend who had helped him with a small favor.

After hearing Zhao Chengshuang’s report, the conference room immediately burst into applause. Deng Liyang nodded repeatedly, saying, ”Chengshuang, your criminal investigation skills are truly impressive. Finding those bandits just from a bit of mud on the door is not an easy feat.

Moreover, you acted against common logic by not asking the security guard at the door but instead inquiring with the owner of the convenience store across the street, learning about the vehicle situation sooner than our criminal investigation team, which is a point well worth our reference!”

”Chengshuang, how did you think to ask the convenience store owner instead of the security guard?” Zhao Jianjun asked.

”This actually relates to the psychology of people...” Zhao Chengshuang repeated Ye Qing’s psychological analysis, captivating everyone even more with their continuous exclamations.

”Handling a case really requires an understanding of psychology, and Chengshuang handled this very well!” Deng Liyang said, ”This matter should be compiled into a textbook and promoted across all police departments in the city.

From now on, we mustn’t adhere blindly to old patterns; when conducting criminal investigations, we must analyze not only the psychology of the suspects but also that of the people around them to double our efficiency in case-solving!”

Facing the praise from everyone, Zhao Chengshuang did not blush but shamelessly accepted it all. Of course, seeing Zhao Jianguo beam with joy in front of everyone made him even happier. For so many years, it was the first time his old man felt proud because of him!

In the end, Deng Liyang announced the order from the general bureau. As Zhao Chengshuang had performed outstandingly in this case, solved it swiftly, saved the hostages, and protected the reputation of the police department, he was awarded third-class merit.

Although it was just third-class merit, Zhao Chengshuang was already completely satisfied. He had never thought in his life that he could be granted a merit. Third-class merit, this glory would be enough for him to boast about for a long time!

Zhao Jianjun was also very pleased with this and had a personal chat with Zhao Chengshuang after the meeting. Of course, his tone had become much nicer, no longer the frustrated one from before, but rather revealing pride in his son in every word, which moved Zhao Chengshuang deeply.

”Right, your cousin is coming over later, you should take her to identify people. If it’s these guys, we must investigate thoroughly!” At the moment of getting up, Zhao Jianjun added, ”The abduction case at Lin Corporation led to a complete loss of face for the Shenchuan City Police Department. If we can follow the clues and solve that case as well, you will definitely earn a second-class merit!”

Zhao Jianjun patted Zhao Chengshuang on the shoulder, saying, ”Your two older brothers have both brought second-class merit medals back to our Zhao Family. I hope you can also bring back a medal for the clan!”

The two brothers Zhao Jianjun mentioned were not Zhao Chengshuang’s biological brothers but children from his uncle’s family. Compared to the two kids from his uncle’s family, Zhao Chengshuang was seen as a black sheep in the family, always considered worthless. For many years, his father, Zhao Jianjun, had also lost face in the family because of him.

This time, not only could Zhao Jianjun hold his head high in the system, but he could finally do so in the family as well!

”Dad, rest assured, I will not let you down!” said Zhao Chengshuang with a determined voice, as his eyes grew somewhat moist.

Not long after Zhao Jianjun left, a private car drove into the police station. A pretty girl got out of the car; if Ye Qing were here, he would surely recognize her as the girl he had rescued in the abandoned factory last time!

The girl was Lin Huayu, the sole heiress of Lin Corporation. Following her were two tall bodyguards, assigned by her family. Since the abduction incident, her family took her safety extremely seriously.

”Cousin!” Zhao Chengshuang called out to Lin Huayu from a distance, waving at her.

Lin Huayu walked into Zhao Chengshuang’s office, and as the two bodyguards attempted to follow, they received a glare from Lin Huayu, who then said, ”We’re at the police station now, are you afraid I’ll be arrested by the police?”

The two bodyguards then stopped, but still stood guard right outside the door, not moving a step away.

Zhao Chengshuang closed the office door and Lin Huayu sat down and sighed in frustration, saying, ”Cousin, when can I live as carefree as you?”

”What’s the matter? Is your life not good enough now?” Zhao Chengshuang asked, puzzled.

”Don’t mention it,” Lin Huayu sighed. ”After that incident, my family has been watching me too closely, literally not allowing me to step outside. Now even going to school, I have to bring these two blocks of wood with me. They sit on either side of me in class, making my classmates avoid me as if they’ve seen a ghost.

When I want to go out and buy something, my family is so worried that I’ll get lost, they insist on having things delivered to the door. You can imagine how stifled I feel!”

”That’s enough, that’s enough,” Zhao Chengshuang waved his hand dismissively, ”Who told you to be the sole heiress of Lin Corporation? Don’t be ungrateful now. Lin Corporation has assets worth tens of billions, what can’t you buy? Look at me, your cousin – I’ve been driving a beat-up car for five years, and can’t even afford to change it; I am actually very envious of you!”

”Oh, speaking of which, cousin, I didn’t see your beat-up car when I came in?” Lin Huayu remarked.

”My car...” Zhao Chengshuang paused, and then suddenly screamed in horror: ”Mom, that woman took off with my car!”

Lin Huayu burst into laughter, asking, ”Which woman? Cousin, that’s your battle chariot, aren’t you too willing to let it go?”

Zhao Chengshuang’s face reflected his heartache, and while still concerned about his car, he waved the issue off, ”Let’s not talk about it. Anyway, let’s focus on your matter. I caught a few people last night; take a look, see if they’re the ones who kidnapped you. If we can drag them all out, you won’t have to worry so much in the future and life will be easier!”

”Oh, really? Take me to see them!” Lin Huayu’s interest was piqued.

Zhao Chengshuang led Lin Huayu out the door and casually asked, ”By the way, cousin, how did you actually escape from those guys last time?”
