Urban Martial Saint

Lin Huayu’s kidnapping shocked the entire Shenchuan City.

The status of Lin Corporation in Shenchuan City was extremely high, and not only did the police department take the matter very seriously, but it even alarmed the political and military circles. Everyone was watching to see how this incident would be handled.

However, just when everyone in the city was focused on how Lin Corporation would respond, the kidnapped heiress Lin Huayu returned home on her own.

No one from the outside knew how Lin Huayu had managed to run back, and only the relatives around her knew, among whom was Zhao Chengshuang.

He had only heard from his father that Lin Huayu was saved by someone. But who exactly it was and what they did, nobody knew, not even him.

Now hearing Zhao Chengshuang mention the incident, a flicker of complexity flashed through Lin Huayu’s eyes before she sighed softly and said in a low voice, ”Actually, I was rescued by someone. If it hadn’t been for that person, I still wouldn’t know what my situation would be.”

”Who rescued you?,” Zhao Chengshuang asked. ”What does this person do? Where is he now? Has your aunt’s husband thanked him?”

Lin Huayu didn’t respond, but she couldn’t help thinking about the young man in military uniform.

After the rescue, she had even gone back to the factory area a few times to look for Ye Qing, but she never saw him again. Even now, she didn’t know that the person who had saved her was called Ye Qing. However, in her heart, this young man in military uniform had become an indelible presence!

Seeing that Lin Huayu didn’t respond, Zhao Chengshuang didn’t press further. Instead, he took Lin Huayu to meet those several bandits. However, Lin Huayu didn’t recognize any of these bandits; they apparently weren’t the same group that had kidnapped her last time.

This piece of news frustrated Zhao Chengshuang. He had hoped to track down the kidnappers of Lin Huayu from last time. With that, he could potentially secure his second-class merit. Now that these people seemed to have no connection with that group, his hope for the second-class merit was once again in jeopardy.

Nevertheless, Zhao Chengshuang soon thought of Ye Qing and began to scheme in his heart. With Ye Qing’s capabilities, if there was a major case next time, perhaps it would be easy to resolve. As long as he maintained a good relationship with Ye Qing, striving for a second-class merit wouldn’t be difficult. It seemed he should take the opportunity to invite him for a meal or something.

While Zhao Chengshuang was plotting to establish a relationship with Ye Qing, on the other hand, Ye Qing was aimlessly wandering around Shenchuan City.

He had gone to work in the morning, and Mu Qingrong had not yet arrived at the company. The incident from last night had greatly startled Mu Qingrong, and after being exhausted all night, she came in late today.

Taking advantage of Mu Qingrong’s absence, Wang Xuan drove Ye Qing out of the company, telling him to go out and drum up business.

Saying it was to drum up business, he didn’t actually provide any specific plan to Ye Qing but merely asked him to go out and secure new business contacts. Frankly speaking, it was just an excuse to give Ye Qing a hard time; in the heat of the day, he sent Ye Qing out so that he wouldn’t enjoy the cool air in the office or see Mu Qingrong.

However, this was just what Ye Qing wanted. He was eager to hit the streets. That way, he could get the chance to continue searching for his brother, Ye Jun.

But lately, it seemed as if all the disabled beggars on the streets had vanished, and Ye Qing couldn’t spot a single one. After wandering around all day without any leads, he returned to the company empty-handed as the evening approached and work ended.

Wang Xuan had been sitting in the office all day and hadn’t planned to leave just yet, as he wanted to wait until the end of the workday. If Ye Qing didn’t come back, then Wang Xuan would have even more reason to blame him, suggesting that Ye Qing had been running around outside all day and didn’t even bother to report back to the company.

Yet, to Wang Xuan’s surprise, Ye Qing returned. Unable to use this as an excuse, Wang Xuan, however, was not an easy person to dishearten. Upon seeing Ye Qing returning, he immediately approached him, asking, ”How was today?”

Ye Qing shook his head and said, ”I didn’t secure any business.”

”I knew you didn’t secure any business. If you had, you would have rushed back to report the good news to the boss,” Wang Xuan said with a hint of sarcasm. ”I meant to ask if you found any potential customers today?”

Potential customers referred to people who might buy the company’s products or new projects that could use the company’s products. Simply put, it meant going out to develop business, which was no easy task.

Having only joined the company for two days, Ye Qing was still not familiar with its business. It was, of course, impossible to find a few potential customers just by running around for a day.

Ye Qing answered honestly, ”No.”

”No?” Wang Xuan glared and said, ”So what have you been running around for all day? The company hired you to be a salesperson, not to go sightseeing. Do you really think your job is to take a one-day tour around Shenchuan?”

Ye Qing bowed his head and said nothing, while Wang Xuan grew more agitated as he spoke, pointing and saying, ”Ye Qing, you’re part of the company, and everything you do should be for the company’s benefit. What exactly did you do after being out all day? Do you even care about the company at all?”

It was clear that Wang Xuan was just looking for trouble. Fortunately, Ye Qing had switched into the suit Fang Tingyun bought for him, or Wang Xuan would have found a few more things to nitpick about his attire.

”What’s going on?” Just then, Mu Qingrong walked out of the room, looking at the two in surprise. Her eyes lit up especially when she saw Ye Qing.

Mu Qingrong had only ever seen Ye Qing in uniform and had never seen him in any other clothes. Today, Ye Qing was wearing the suit Fang Tingyun had bought, and he looked quite handsome in it. His face, however, still bore that distinct military solemnity, which made him seem even colder.

Wang Xuan didn’t notice Mu Qingrong’s look and immediately said with a smile, ”Nothing much, I’m just teaching him how to handle business.”

Mu Qingrong glanced at Ye Qing, who did not deny it. She knew that Ye Qing could be quite aggressive at times and incredibly patient at others. She understood that Wang Xuan certainly wouldn’t be so generous as to teach Ye Qing about business; he was definitely setting him up. But with Ye Qing keeping silent, she couldn’t press the issue.

”Manager Wang, Ye Qing has only just joined the company and there’s much he doesn’t know yet. He needs to familiarize himself with the business first,” said Mu Qingrong. ”By the way, don’t you have some minor business under you that you don’t have the time to handle? Why don’t you hand those over to Ye Qing to let him get some practice and lighten your load a bit?”

Wang Xuan’s expression stiffened, but he quickly regained his composure and said with a faint smile, ”Sure, no problem.”

Mu Qingrong was slightly taken aback, as she had not expected Wang Xuan to agree so readily. But she didn’t dwell on it and turned to Ye Qing, ”Ye Qing, come with me after work; there’s something I want to discuss with you.”

Ye Qing nodded, but Wang Xuan’s expression changed again. He had invited him to dinner the night before, and now was discussing matters with him privately—what was the relationship between these two?

After watching Mu Qingrong and Ye Qing leave, Wang Xuan returned to his desk with a dark expression. Cheng Feilong approached carefully and whispered, ”Manager Wang, Feiyun Group called asking for our proposal.”

”I know!” Wang Xuan snapped back irritably, looking up at Cheng Feilong with a grave tone, ”Go, organize the business we’ve already lost and send them to Ye Qing later.”

”Oh?” Cheng Feilong was taken aback. ’Lost business’ referred to earlier engagements with potential clients who weren’t impressed by the company’s proposals or products, and who hadn’t given their business to them. These were generally regarded as lost causes because once a deal failed, it was difficult to engage with those clients again.

That Wang Xuan was organizing these for Ye Qing clearly meant he intended to sideline Ye Qing from the company’s business, as these were surely impossible deals. But this gave him an out with Mu Qingrong, since he had indeed assigned some business to Ye Qing. Whether Ye Qing succeeded or not was his own problem. If he failed, it was due to his incapability.

If he succeeded, then it would reflect well on Wang Xuan’s leadership.

After Cheng Feilong organized the discarded business, Wang Xuan looked at the thick stack of business documents, a cold smile flashing across his face as he thought, ”Ye Qing, you managed to secure Das Group’s business, but I don’t believe you can succeed with all of these. Mu Qingrong, I’ll let you see that without me, Wang Xuan, this company simply cannot function!”

Wang Xuan packed the stack of business documents into a file bag and took it to Ye Qing’s desk, revealing a rare smile as he said, ”Ye Qing, these are a few enterprises that our company has a good relationship with and has maintained business with for a long time. They are clients we have always taken care of. Since you are new to the company, start with these simpler clients to practice.

With your capabilities, I believe you’ll do well!”

Ye Qing took the file bag without saying anything. He was well aware of Wang Xuan’s malicious intentions; these business deals were definitely not simple. However, knowing they would be difficult, Ye Qing wouldn’t say a word—that was just his nature.

No matter how hard a task was, once it was on his shoulders, he would just get on with it, without any complaints. Even if he failed, at least he would have tried, rather than awaiting failure with complaints.

”Manager Wang really values you, Ye Qing. You have to do a good job,” Cheng Feilong said exaggeratedly on the side. ”These deals are all major clients of our company, and your main task is to maintain them. Be sure not to lose any of these clients!”

Wang Xuan shot a cold glance at Cheng Feilong, who realized he had misspoken and quickly bowed his head and backed away.

Ye Qing remained silent throughout, and Wang Xuan nodded, saying, ”Ye Qing, if you work hard, I believe you will do very well!”

Cheng Feilong followed Wang Xuan out of the company and then whispered, ”If he manages to handle these deals well, that would really be something!”

Wang Xuan lit a cigarette and said nothing, but his eyes were filled with spiteful glimmers.
