Urban Martial Saint

Huo Pingping’s driving skills were mediocre, and the road was not good either, leading to a bumpy ride that caused a few bumps to the car.

Even though no one said anything about it, Huo Pingping felt embarrassed and glared at Ye Qing beside her, exclaiming angrily, ”You’re a soldier, having been on battlegrounds, yet can’t even drive?”

Ye Qing responded, ”It’s not a requirement for soldiers to know how to drive!”

Huo Pingping didn’t know whether soldiers had to know how to drive either but argued, ”That might not be a rule, but driving is a survival skill. Think about it, if fighting breaks out and you want to quickly join the battle or escape, could you manage without knowing how to drive?”

Ye Qing slowly shook his head. ”My battlefield doesn’t require knowing how to drive!”

”Why?” Huo Pingping curiously asked.

Ye Qing didn’t reply; he was stating a fact. On the borderlines, their primary battlefields were in deep forests where vehicles couldn’t enter. Moreover, they belonged to combat units and were typically dropped off outside the battlefield and rushed in; they seldom drove themselves. Of course, those entering special forces received driving training, but Ye Qing was an exception.

When Ye Qing joined the army, he was initially just an infantryman. During a military competition, he was selected for special forces. It was precisely at the chaotic period on the border when the poppies in the Golden Triangle were ripe, and his driving training was canceled to join the drug enforcement operations on the frontline immediately. That campaign lasted three months.

After coming back from the border, Ye Qing had made significant achievements becoming a squad leader and started training new recruits. Hence, his driving training was skipped, and still to this day, Ye Qing didn’t know how to drive.

”I hate you the most, you can’t even squeak a response!” Huo Pingping complained unhappily. ”I asked you so many times, and you acted like a mute, not giving any hint. I would’ve thought you were dead if I hadn’t been looking at you!”

Ye Qing thought for a moment and then said, ”Squeak.”

The two women who were initially scared in the backseat couldn’t help but laugh, and Huo Pingping was so annoyed she nearly stopped the car to kick Ye Qing.

The journey Zhao Chengshuang drove in twenty minutes took Huo Pingping a full two hours to return, and that too without much traffic. Otherwise, who knows when she would have been back.

Zhao Chengshuang’s car also had several bumps, its surface thoroughly battered.

Fang Tingyun exited the car, feeling lightheaded, and said, ”Pingping, where exactly did you get your driver’s license?”

Huo Pingping responded, ”When did I ever say I had a driver’s license?”

”What?” Even Mo Xiang couldn’t help but exclaim in horror. If you don’t have a license, why on earth are you driving? Isn’t that joking with people’s lives?

”Oh, don’t worry. I’ve even driven a tractor back home; this is nothing!” Huo Pingping waved her hand boldly and said, ”Come on, let’s go upstairs.”

Ye Qing accompanied the three women upstairs, and Mu Qingrong was waiting in the room. Seeing the three women enter, Mu Qingrong quickly stood up and rushed over, excitedly saying, ”Tingyun, Pingping, Mo Xiang, are you... are you all okay?”

”What could possibly be wrong!” Huo Pingping said. ”That ugly monster tried to harass me, but I ended up kicking him so hard he turned into a woman!”

Mu Qingrong ignored Huo Pingping’s comment; she knew it was best not to engage with such remarks.

Fang Tingyun nodded and spoke in a low voice, ”Thankfully, Ye arrived in time, otherwise who knows what might have happened.”

Mu Qingrong was also very frightened by the evening’s events. If Ye Qing hadn’t set up an alarm for them, who knows what might have happened to the four of them today.

”Ye Qing, thank you!” Mu Qingrong sincerely said.

Ye Qing waved his hand and said, ”You all go back to your rooms and rest. You still have to work tomorrow.”

The women looked at each other. After such an incident, how could they possibly sleep in this room?

Ye Qing noticed the women’s concerns and said, ”Don’t worry, nothing will happen tonight.”

”What about later?” Mu Qingrong couldn’t help but ask.

Ye Qing furrowed his brow slightly. He couldn’t guarantee anything about the future. The leader from earlier was very clear; their organization had other members. After taking such a defeat here, no one could guarantee what might happen next!

Ye Qing said, ”Let’s talk about the future later, you guys rest first.”

The women saw off Ye Qing, each still wearing a look of panic on their faces. Even though Huo Pingping seemed carefree, she was still a girl; facing such an incident, it was impossible for her not to be scared.

Mo Xiang whispered, ”Those seven people were all injured by Ye Qing, and the police took them away. There shouldn’t be any more trouble in the future, right?”

”That’s hard to say!” Huo Pingping shook her head, ”How do you know they only have seven people? If there are others, they’ll definitely come back for revenge!”

Fang Tingyun said, ”Don’t worry, with Big Brother Ye here, what can they do to us?”

Huo Pingping exclaimed, ”Yo, you think that soldier is your personal bodyguard. He was lucky to find us tonight, but will we be this lucky next time? I’m telling you, if he had been five minutes late tonight, who knows what would have happened to us.”

Mu Qingrong said, ”Pingping, I know you’re worried. But at this point, what can we do now?”

Huo Pingping’s eyes darted around, ”I have an idea, do you want to hear it?”

”What idea?” The women were all interested, as it concerned their safety.

”I was thinking, if Ye Qing were here tonight, we wouldn’t have faced this danger,” Huo Pingping glanced at the three women, ”If Ye Qing also lived here, wouldn’t these things stop happening?”

Fang Tingyun’s face lit up, ”Exactly, if Big Brother Ye were here, those people definitely wouldn’t dare to come!”

Mu Qingrong frowned slightly, ”Pingping, how could he live here?”

”Why can’t he live here?” Huo Pingping said, ”Everyone has their own room here, it’s not like he’s going to sleep with you. Isn’t there a room empty anyway? Renting it to someone, it’s just living, and it’s the same for him. Besides, even if we brought in another girl, you’d still have to watch out whether she’d do something like Ya Xin, planting hidden cameras or something.

I’d say, compared to those girls with ulterior motives, this soldier is more trustworthy. He could also ensure our safety, killing two birds with one stone!”

The word ’safety’ indeed penetrated deep into Mu Qingrong and Mo Xiang’s hearts. The two women exchanged glances, Mu Qingrong said, ”Pingping is right, but this isn’t just our decision to make. Let’s wait for Cutie and Qingyue to come back and discuss it.”

”Discuss with Cutie when she comes back, but waiting for Qingyue, forget it!” Huo Pingping said, ”Qingyue is the belle of Shenda University, with daily engagements more than even a big boss like you. Waiting for her would be like waiting forever, by that time we might all be sold to Somalia to feed the pirates!”

Mu Qingrong nodded, ”Alright, let’s discuss it together when Cutie comes back tomorrow.”

”No problem!” Huo Pingping turned and gave a thumbs-up to Fang Tingyun, who was beaming with joy.

Fang Tingyun’s face flushed, her little secret completely transparent to Huo Pingping’s eyes.

At six thirty in the morning, Zhao Chengshuang hurried out of bed and ran to the station.

Strictly speaking, Zhao Chengshuang hadn’t slept all night. Last night, he had been almost overly excited.

From the home invasion and hostage situation to the arrest, it took less than one and half hours. Specifically, the police had captured the vicious criminals within an hour of receiving the alert, with the hostages unharmed. This speed and efficiency in solving the case had set a new record in Shenchuan City’s history of solving cases. And the person who set this record was him, Zhao Chengshuang!

Having been in the police force for so many years, Zhao Chengshuang had always faced scrutiny, with people saying he rose through the ranks due to family connections. With such a significant achievement this time, not only could he redeem himself, but it also ensured his path of promotion would be smooth. This single case was sufficient for him to thrive for several years!

Last night, Mo Zhixing had called him, stating that Deng Liyang, the deputy chief of the city police bureau, would personally come to the station to award the officers. That meant, in this case, Zhao Chengshuang had indeed made a significant contribution. Whether it was a third-class or second-class merit would depend on the decision from above.

What excited Zhao Chengshuang even more was that the old man was also coming in the morning to review the case. Over the years, the person he felt most sorry for was the old man, and he fought for this achievement also to make the old man proud. This time, the old man could finally stand tall and proud!

Zhao Chengshuang ran to the station; there weren’t many people yet as the night shift had not yet ended, and most of them were drowsy. Seeing Zhao Chengshuang arrive, many were surprised. This deputy team leader, who usually arrived late, why had he come so early this time?

”Hey, Old Wang, hello. Old Li, still on shift!” Zhao Chengshuang greeted everyone casually as he made his way to his office, pulled open the curtains, and stared intently at the outside entrance.

Not long after, the heads of the station, including the deputy chief, arrived for work. Mo Zhixing, looking fresh and energetic, arrived as well, smiling and greeting everyone along the way. Although Zhao Chengshuang had solved last night’s case, Zhao Chengshuang was under his command, so he also credited himself with part of the achievement.

Zhao Chengshuang anxiously watched the entrance; he was waiting for the old man’s car.
