The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

”Naturally, we’re recruiting.” Meng Yunzheng smiled and said, ”Those who wish to work at the academy, please proceed to the left. There will also be students guiding the way to the first room on the left, the Naxian Hall.”

At this, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

Soon, the crowd split into two groups. Most people headed to the right towards the Taoli Hall, while a noticeably smaller group went to the left for the recruitment.

The larger crowd on the right spent most of the day waiting in line, but the line at the Naxian Hall on the left formed quickly, with candidates eagerly awaiting their interviews.

Since the academy was newly established and had many visitors today, most of those assigned to reception duties were like Shurui, acting as guides and introducers. As for the recruitment task... even if they could spare people, there were none suitable.

So, in the end, Shu Yu was ’pushed onto the field,’ conducting the interviews herself.

Madam Hou stood behind her at this time, asking softly, ”Why do you have to do this?”

Shu Yu sighed, ”There’s no other way. Those who can, should do more. I’m Yun’s wife, so I should support him when he needs help.”

Ying Xi, who was silently maintaining order on the side, twitched the corner of his mouth. Miss, is this your true feeling?

It’s clear that the workshop is short on people, and you want to take this opportunity to also recruit staff needed for the workshop—a win-win situation.

A table was set up in front of Shu Yu, with paper, pens, and books neatly arranged on it.

Once the line outside was orderly, she let the first person in.

The first to enter was a young man, wearing coarse linen clothes, yet he was quite clean.

He was very nervous, and the first thing he said upon entering was, ”I, I have studied before, and I can read.”

Shu Yu paused, then smiled and looked up, ”Oh? Alright then, I have a book here. Read a section for me.”

Sweat instantly beaded on the young man’s forehead. He raised his hand to wipe it but quickly felt this action might give him away, hastily explaining, ”It’s too hot, and I, I am prone to sweating.”

Shu Yu nodded in agreement, then swiftly opened the book in front of her,

a very basic book—the Three Character Classic.

Once she opened it, she indicated for the young man to start. He swallowed, then stammered, ”Man at birth, is kind by nature, similar in nature... habits... not... father’s fault... of... of...”

His voice grew quieter and sweat more intense.

Shu Yu understood. This person probably learned a few characters in a hurry after knowing the recruitment requirements and studied for about twenty days.

Since the Three Character Classic is fundamental and a child’s introductory book, he must have heard students recite it, so he remembered the first few lines.

”How long have you been studying?”

The young man’s voice stopped abruptly, his face flushed, ”Eighteen days...”

He was extremely frustrated, rubbed his hands twice, and his expression became dejected, ”I’m sorry for wasting your time. I’ll leave now.”

He knew he had no hope, sighed, and turned to leave in disappointment.

Shu Yu, ”...”

”Wait, I haven’t finished asking, why are you leaving?”

The man was taken aback and quickly turned around, ”Isn’t it said that the academy recruits people who can read and write?”

Shu Yu was speechless, ”Reading and writing is only a condition for preferential recruitment, not a strict requirement. After all, we’re looking for people who can work, not just those who can read. What’s most important is character and ability. If you’re indeed skilled, the academy will still hire you.”
