The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

The matchmaker handed the red silk to Meng Yunzheng, smiled and congratulated him, then retreated to the side.

Next were the earnest instructions from the elders, explaining to Shu Yu the duties of being a wife.

After they finished speaking, the bride and groom bid farewell to their parents, and the matchmaker led the two to turn around.

Daniu came over, squatted down, and carried Shu Yu on his back.

As they were about to leave, Madam Ruan finally couldn’t hold back and called out, ”Yu.”

Daniu paused, and Madam Ruan stepped forward a few paces, took a deep breath, and said to Meng Yunzheng, ”My daughter is now entrusted to you. She’s suffered a lot in the past years; I hope you will treat her well in the future.”

”Mother-in-law, please be assured. Yu will be my only wife in the future. I will cherish and treasure her and will never let her down.”

Meng Yunzheng’s expression was solemn as he made a serious promise.

Madam Ruan nodded, then turned to look at Shu Yu, who reached out and tightly gripped her hand, saying, ”Mother, don’t worry.”

”Let’s go, don’t miss the auspicious hours.” The old lady, with reddened eyes, came over and pulled Madam Ruan back a step.

Then Daniu carried Shu Yu out the door.

A group of children behind followed, jumping and shouting, ’The bride is leaving!’

The three people in the living room, including the old lady, did not move but merely watched Shu Yu’s figure grow further and further away, their eyes full of reluctance.

Outside the door, the red bridal sedan slightly lowered, and Daniu placed Shu Yu inside. The matchmaker waved the handkerchief, and once Meng Yunzheng was on his horse, she immediately shouted loudly, ”Lift the sedan!”

The sedan bearers lifted the poles together and staggered forward.

The Meng family’s house was just diagonally opposite, only a few steps away, so naturally, they couldn’t carry the sedan directly back.

Just as Meng Yunzheng took a big circle around the county town when he came, now he again took a big circle back, just approaching from the other direction.

Who in town didn’t know about the wedding of Top Scholar Meng and County Lord Lu? It had already stirred up the entire city before.

Therefore, the road was full of onlookers, and coupled with the wealth and generosity of the Lu and Meng families, distributing peanut candies, melon seeds, and occasionally some copper coins all along the way, the procession grew increasingly large.

By the time the sedan turned back to the Meng family, there was a crowd of people behind, especially children.

Uncle Yan, the Meng family butler, instructed the servants to give out some fruits and snacks to the children, receiving a heap of auspicious words in return.

When the auspicious time for the bowing ceremony arrived, Meng Yunzheng and Shu Yu bowed deeply to Meng Pei, seated at the high hall.

Meng Pei was beaming joyfully and even turned to speak to Song Xin’s memorial tablet on the other side, ”Our son is married, soon, we’ll be waiting to hold a grandson.”

Meng Yunzheng couldn’t help but laugh. After the ceremony, he led Shu Yu back to the newlywed room.

Ms. Tao and Meng Han were both in the newlywed room. As soon as they entered, they immediately prepared and handed over the weighing scale to Meng Yunzheng.

There were quite a few people excitedly watching the lively scene in the room. Aunt Hong stood aside with Little Song Le, smiling so broadly her eyes were narrowed.

Ms. Kang and Madam Hou had arrived early from their maternal homes to the husband’s family, and they were now making a fuss, ”Groom, quickly lift the veil so we can all see the most beautiful bride in the world.”

”Look at the bride, look at the bride.”

Meng Yunzheng lightly coughed, and his hand holding the weighing scale was somewhat tight, his palms damp with sweat.

He sat opposite Shu Yu and gently lifted her veil. Shu Yu kept her head bowed and only looked forward when the veil was lifted.

Meng Yunzheng had never seen Shu Yu so carefully adorned, with pearl hairpins circling her hair, her face like a rosy cloud, eyes glistening with moisture, her lips slightly pursed, making his heart restless and eager to taste them.
