The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1038: Chapter 1038: She Doesn’t Dare to Trouble You

Gradually, the feeling of being slighted in the capital city faded for County Magistrate Zhang, and she finally experienced the convenience of her status.

After five or six years, she had somewhat lost sight of her own identity.

She considered herself the county magistrate of Dongan Province, while Shu Yu was merely a village chief in Jiangyuan County, far beneath her. Her brother taking a liking to Shu Yu was Shu Yu’s good fortune, so how dare she refuse?

Consequently, she looked upon Shu Yu with great disfavor.

Shu Yu understood; no wonder that back when the Shu family was still flourishing, the Shu family’s young ladies did not foster a friendship with this county magistrate; apparently, the Shu family did not think much of her either.

Aside from County Magistrate Zhang, no one from the Zhang family had entered the court to hold official positions; they lacked background and influence, and even County Magistrate Zhang had nothing more than a nominal title.

The Shu family had always been shrewd, seeking benefits while avoiding harm; why would they waste time on her?

Xiang Weinan noticed her silence, ”You don’t need to worry about that County Magistrate Zhang. If she tries to make things difficult for you, just fend her off. Besides, in a couple of days, she probably won’t dare trouble you.”

Shu Yu was puzzled, ”What do you mean by that?”

Xiang Weinan, however, had an air of mystery, ”You’ll understand on the day of your coming-of-age ceremony.”

”You really...” Shu Yu wanted to inquire further, but Xiang Weinan impatiently waved his hand, ”Alright, alright, you should quickly go home; I have other matters to attend to. I’ll come to congratulate you in a few days when your family entertains guests.”

Thus, Shu Yu was ushered out by Xiang Weinan, leaving her both amused and exasperated.

How annoying is it to speak in such a roundabout way, can’t one possess a basic sense of decency and morality?

Standing at the gate of the county office, Shu Yu ground her teeth angrily.

Ying Xi, standing beside her with a dagger in hand, inquired, ”Miss, shall we storm in?”

Appearing ready to follow orders at any moment.

Shu Yu, ”...”

”Forget it, with his unscrupulous manner, he’ll end up in trouble sooner or later.”

After saying this, she gave the county office one last glance, snorted coldly, and turned to leave.

Since Xiang Weinan mentioned that she need not worry about County Magistrate Zhang any longer, she decided to focus on preparing for her coming-of-age ceremony.

With her family placing so much importance on it, she inevitably felt a growing sense of tension and urgency.

Early the following morning, it was finally her birthday.

Shu Yu was still somewhat sleepy when the old lady and Madam Ruan came knocking on her door.

”Yu, get up quickly; let your mother and sister dress you up, the guests will arrive soon.”

Shu Yu yawned and glanced at the sky, it seemed to still be early dawn, just around 5 a.m to 7 a.m with the sky only faintly lit.

The knocking continued outside the door, ”Yu, are you up yet?”

”Up, up,” Shu Yu hurriedly threw on some clothes to open the door.

Madam Ruan held a box in her hand, which contained her new clothes.

She placed the clothes on the table and then turned to those outside, saying, ”Quickly bring the water to the bathroom.”

The Lu family’s servants entered, carrying heated water; the bathroom was on the other side of Shu Yu’s room and could be accessed directly from the room.

The ceramic squat toilet that the Fan family helped prepare earlier was also inside.

It was renovated to resemble a modern bathroom, with blue stone slab flooring, both clean and convenient.

The servants poured hot water into the bathtub, and Madam Ruan urged her to bathe and change clothes.

Shu Yu, initially calm, began to feel nervous under their bustling promptings.

After bathing, she changed into her ceremony attire, had something to eat, and arranged her hair, and then indeed, not much time was left.
