The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1008: Chapter 1008: The Disdained Shu Yu

After straightening up the counter and cleaning up the floor, Shu Yu nestled herself behind the counter.

It was early in the morning—there wasn’t likely to be any business yet.

Not until the end of the auspicious time did the old lady show up leisurely with Hua Xian, and only then did a few customers begin trickling in.

The customers who saw Shu Yu behind the counter paused in surprise.

Regular patrons of the shop knew that the current shopkeeper was the elder sister of Monarch Lu Xiang. They enjoyed chatting with the friendly and affable Miss Lu.

But today, Miss Lu wasn’t there. Sitting behind the counter was a stranger.

Indeed, few people who had seen Shu Yu knew her true identity.

The name ”Lu Xiang” was far more well-known than the person herself.

Shu Yu didn’t bother to introduce herself. Since it wasn’t busy, Hua Xian took the reins and adeptly attended to the customers.

Seeing that things were under control and with Ying Xi helping out by fetching goods, the old lady pressed Shu Yu back into her seat, telling her to stay put.

”You—running around here, there, and everywhere these days, not a moment of rest. Now that you don’t have to rush about in the shop, just stay back here behind the counter like a stabilizer and take a break. We can handle the rest.”

So Shu Yu obediently sat back down.

But before long, two more people came in asking for makeup.

As Shu Yu was about to get up, the pair realized she wasn’t Miss Lu and immediately declined.

Upon hearing that Shopkeeper Lu had gone to the prefecture and wouldn’t be back for a few days, they expressed regret and said they’d return later before promptly leaving.

Shu Yu was completely baffled—”Hey, my skills aren’t bad either!”

The old lady, standing nearby, couldn’t help but laugh. ”People don’t know you—they’ve got no clue Daya’s skills were all taught by you. No, wait—even if they did know you, they wouldn’t dare let you do their makeup. You’re a village chief now.”

Shu Yu looked doubtful. ”Grandmother, do you think I’m helping my sister get business here, or scaring her customers away?”

The old lady finally burst into laughter, loud and hearty, drawing curious glances from the others in the shop.

Though they had no idea what the old lady was laughing about, her joy was infectious, brightening the atmosphere.

Shu Yu sighed in exasperation, resigned to sitting back down.

Fortunately, more customers soon came in. This time, they weren’t looking to buy clothes or makeup—they wanted to make a reservation.

Shu Yu blinked in surprise. A reservation?

For what?

When she asked, the customer seemed a bit taken aback. ”You don’t know? I want to schedule a date for Shopkeeper Lu to do bridal makeup.”

Shu Yu’s eyes lit up slightly—her elder sister had already started taking bridal makeup jobs?

Without wasting time, she hurriedly took down the customer’s information, the wedding date, and a few basic details, jotting them all into a notebook.

The customer had initially thought her unfamiliarity with bridal makeup made her seem unreliable.

But seeing Shu Yu’s later diligence and attentiveness, the customer felt reassured, saying they’d come back the day before the wedding to confirm with Shopkeeper Lu before leaving.

After they left, the old lady turned to Shu Yu and said, ”This bridal makeup gig has quite the story behind it. A while ago, there was a couple preparing to get married, but the elder who was supposed to dress the bride fell ill the day before and couldn’t even get out of bed. Finding someone else suitable on such short notice was no easy feat. Someone—no idea who—mentioned that Shopkeeper Lu at Yiren Pavilion is exceptionally skilled, with makeup that’s not only beautiful but incredibly refined. They said if you get her to do it, the groom might be so stunned when he lifts the veil that he won’t take his eyes off of her.”
