The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1006: Chapter 1006: Are You Going to the Prefecture as Well?

The final scene of smashing the wine bottle wasn’t seen by Shu Yu, but Ying Xi happened to turn his head and catch it.

So when the mule carriage arrived at Liufang Alley and Ah Ning got off to enter the house, Ying Xi asked softly, ”Miss, do you want me to investigate Manager Qiu?”

Shu Yu thought for a moment, ”Alright, you handle it. If there’s nothing serious, just let me know tomorrow.”

”Yes, Miss.”

Ying Xi left, and Shu Yu entered the house.

Early the next morning, Madam Ruan and Shuyou were ready to head to the prefecture.

Zhao Xi had already brought the carriage and waited outside early. When the old lady saw this, she pulled Shuyou aside for a talk.

The old lady was genuinely happy that the two had come together.

Although outwardly she never mentioned it and had told the rest of the family not to rush Shuyou, deep down, she hoped that Shuyou liked Zhao Xi, and that the two good children she regarded fondly would eventually share mutual affection and live harmoniously together.

Now that her wish had come true, the old lady felt a weight lifted off her heart.

Yet she repeatedly reminded Shuyou to maintain some distance before the engagement. She also told Madam Ruan to keep a close eye on the two and ensure they had appropriate opportunities to spend time alone, but not for too long — otherwise, what if something happened?

Madam Ruan agreed repeatedly, saying she understood.

The old lady felt that this second daughter-in-law wasn’t very reliable, but soon Meng Yunzheng arrived, saying he was going to the prefecture as well.

Hearing this, the old lady felt reassured.

On the contrary, Shu Yu found it strange, ”You’re going to the prefecture too?”

”Yes, I have some matters to attend to.” Meng Yunzheng stealthily pinched her hand while no one was paying attention. ”But I’ll just be traveling with them for the journey.”

Once we arrive at the prefecture, we’ll go our separate ways.

The courtyard was full of people, and over there, Zhao Xi was urging them to set off, so Shu Yu didn’t question him further.

The Lu family watched as their carriage left Liufang Alley. The city gates had just opened, and since they departed early, they could reach the prefecture quickly by traveling at full speed.

Before leaving, Zhao Xi mentioned that if things got busy, he might not return until the third day.

Shu Yu kept it in mind and simply reminded him to take good care of Madam Ruan and Shuyou.

Hardly had Madam Ruan and the others left when Ying Xi arrived with Hua Xian.

Shu Yu tidied up and prepared to head to Yiren Pavilion to open the doors.

Once seated in the mule carriage, Ying Xi began to relay the information he’d gathered to her.

”Miss, yesterday I went to Manager Qiu’s residence and overheard him talking to that staff member who was dismissed by the cloth shop. From what they said, the cloth shop’s boss is very displeased with Manager Qiu for offending you. Initially, he only required Manager Qiu to apologize to you, preferably sign back the business deal with Yiren Pavilion. Even if that wasn’t possible, he needed to at least repair his relationship with you.”

Shu Yu leaned against the carriage frame as she listened, not surprised by this. After all, Manager Qiu had deliberately come to Liufang Alley looking for her before.

Ying Xi said, ”But when Manager Qiu first tried to meet you, Young Master Zhao stopped him. Later, when he tried again to avoid Young Master Zhao, you were always too busy, and they simply never had a chance to see you. A few days later, the cloth shop’s boss fired both Manager Qiu and that staff member.”

”Although the official reason given was irregularities discovered during accounting checks, with Manager Qiu privately embezzling money and being dishonest. But everyone knows the primary reason was him losing Yiren Pavilion’s business deal that led to this.”

”Now, neither Manager Qiu nor the staff member can find any other work.”
