The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1026: Chapter 1026: Zhao Xi Proposes Marriage

The mother and daughter were both gentle-natured people. Although they had just arrived last night, they got along quite well with Xiang and her mother.

However… this sewing workshop was still a bit too small.

It was fine when it was just Xiang and her mother living there, but with two more people, the space for storing fabric and clothes became much narrower, and it was uncomfortable for everyone living there.

Shu Yu looked around the sewing workshop and then said to Shuyou, “Sister, why don’t we let Tian Qin and her mother stay in the backyard of Yiren Pavilion? It’s still vacant over there, and besides, the clothes from here are to be sent to the shop anyway. If any embroidery is needed, Tian Qin can do it right there.”

Guests could even discuss the patterns they wanted on the spot.

The backyard of Yiren Pavilion had originally been occupied by Daniu and his wife. Ever since they went to manage the manor, the rooms in the backyard had been left empty.

Fortunately, there wasn’t much stock kept in the shop’s backyard, and the money was brought back daily. Moreover, now that Shu Yu held the position of Village Chief, no one dared to sneak into the shop to steal things.

But in the long run, it still wasn’t safe. Someone needed to stay there to keep an eye on things.

Having Tian Qin and her mother move there seemed perfect. Ningshui Street was bustling and convenient for getting around too.

However, Shuyou shook her head and said, “That was my initial thought as well, but Tian Qin mentioned that she wanted to rent a small house on her own. In the future, she’ll just come over to work every day. That way, she’ll feel more at ease. But since she’s new here and unfamiliar with Jiangyuan County, she asked me to help her find a small courtyard nearby. In the meantime, she’ll have to trouble us by staying in the sewing workshop for a couple of days.”

Shu Yu thought for a moment; that arrangement seemed fine as well.

If it were her, she would also prefer to rent a place of her own.

And so it was decided. With the embroiderer settled, Shu Yu planned to discuss Lanhua with her sister.

Unexpectedly, before she could bring it up, Shuyou mentioned it first.

“Yu, I’ve been thinking about finding someone to learn makeup skills. What do you think… about Lanhua?”

Shu Yu opened her mouth in surprise. Could they really be thinking the same thing?

She paused for a moment and then asked, “Sister, what’s your thought process?”

“Since she was little, Lanhua has loved dressing herself up. I remember when we were children, she even found a piece of charcoal to draw her eyebrows, used impatiens juice to stain her nails, and tucked flowers into her hair. Although it looked a bit ridiculous back then, thinking about it now, if our family had had the money at that time, Lanhua might have been the most beautifully dressed.”

Compared to Shu Yu, who wasn’t as familiar with Lanhua, Shuyou, having grown up with her, clearly understood her better.

Shu Yu laughed. Her elder sister was maturing faster than she had expected. After that brief trip to the prefecture, she had gained a clearer understanding of the workshop’s future development and the need for additional skilled workers.

It seemed like the shop could completely be entrusted to her elder sister in the future.

She smiled and said, “If Sister thinks she’s suitable, then talk to Lanhua and see what she thinks.”

“Alright.”

Shuyou brightened up, though these next few days she was going to be quite busy.

First, she needed to settle things with Tian Qin and her mother. Right after that, Zhao Xi was eagerly bringing the matchmaker over to propose marriage.

As it happened, two days later, Meng Yunzheng returned to Jiangyuan County as well.

He came along with Zhao Xi, and the display was rather grand.

Clearly, Zhao Xi wanted to make it known to everyone that both he and Shuyou were already spoken for. The neighbors in Liufang Alley wouldn’t need to bother trying to set them up anymore.

So, early in the morning, he changed into a brand-new set of clothes, had Meng Yunzheng carry a goose for him, brought along the birth chart, and followed the matchmaker with great spirit to knock on the Lu family’s door.
