The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1025: Chapter 1025: Tian Qin and Her Daughter

Zhao Xi waved his hand. “It’s fine. The letter explains everything regarding the engagement; it’s better for Lu Erbai to read it himself than for me to paraphrase.”

Seeing him say this, Lu Erbai no longer declined and opened the letter to read.

The letter began with Old Doctor Zhao berating Zhao Xi, rambling on without a shred of politeness.

But even amidst the scolding, Lu Erbai could sense his care for Zhao Xi.

After finishing the reprimand, the tone of the letter became serious, focusing on matters related to the engagement.

It seemed Zhao Xi had written the letter early on—back when he had just realized his feelings for Shuyou. At the time, he was unsure when he could win her over, and naturally, he couldn’t predict when the engagement or wedding would happen.

Therefore, in Old Doctor Zhao’s reply, he mentioned that since he was far away and might not make it back in time, Zhao Xi should act accordingly, following the customs of the Lu family.

Old Doctor Zhao understood Zhao Xi well, knowing that once the relationship was confirmed, Zhao Xi would be eager to finalize the details without delay. So he suggested Zhao Xi discuss the proposal and engagement arrangements with Meng Yunzheng, and wait to appear until the wedding. He asked for the Lu family’s understanding for this.

Lu Erbai mentally calculated for a moment. If Zhao Xi were to send another letter to Old Doctor Zhao now, not counting the time it would take for the message to travel, it would take Old Doctor Zhao months to receive the letter and then make the trip back.

Furthermore, given Old Doctor Zhao’s age and the approaching heat of June, traveling would be strenuous and punishing for him.

Lu Erbai naturally wouldn’t hold this against him.

The letter also mentioned that although Old Doctor Zhao had never met Shuyou, he trusted Zhao Xi’s judgment. A girl who could stir Zhao Xi’s heart at the age of twenty-one must surely be an excellent girl.

Alongside the letter, Zhao Xi had also sent his birth chart and a list of betrothal gifts, which Old Doctor Zhao had prepared long ago when Zhao Xi reached the age of majority.

After reading the letter, Lu Erbai understood Old Doctor Zhao’s intentions and felt reassured.

“Alright then, we’ll follow our local customs for the arrangements. Since your master isn’t here, and Yunzheng isn’t either, if you have any questions, you can come ask me.”

Zhao Xi instantly became nervous. “Th-th-th-th Lu Erbai, what should I do first?”

His nerves made his speech stutter.

But seeing Zhao Xi ask so anxiously, even Lu Erbai froze, wondering where to begin.

The old lady sighed. These two men—what do they know?

She shot Lu Erbai an exasperated glare and turned to Zhao Xi. “No need to ask him. Later, go find yourself a matchmaker—a reliable one. She’ll guide you step by step through what you need to do.”

Zhao Xi understood immediately. “Alright, I’ll… um…” Glancing at the sky, he said, “First thing tomorrow morning, I’ll go find one.”

He truly couldn’t wait. The next day, he immediately set out to find a suitable matchmaker.

Being an outsider and also a man, he had no clue who would be suitable. So early in the morning, he ended up running over to the Lu family again to ask the old lady.

When Shuyou heard his intentions, she grew so embarrassed that she couldn’t stay at home. She quickly left for the sewing workshop.

Shu Yu originally had something to say to her. But when she saw Shuyou leave, she could only follow her to the workshop.

By the time Shu Yu arrived, Shuyou was already chatting with a seamstress named Tian Qin.

Tian Qin seemed to know Shu Yu’s identity. Upon seeing her, Tian Qin immediately stood and respectfully bowed.

Shu Yu also noticed a frail-looking woman resting nearby—it was Mother Tian, who was still recovering from illness.

Mother Tian was gaunt and fragile, but according to Shuyou, under Zhao Xi’s treatment, her condition had greatly improved. With proper care in the coming days, she would gradually recover.
