The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1034: Chapter 1034: Yu, She’s Coming for You

Shu Yu was surprised, ”What happened? What’s going on?”

Ding Yuehua got off the carriage, but seemed to have difficulty facing her, ”Yu, I’m sorry, I couldn’t fulfill the promise I made to you.”

”The promise you made to me? What is it?”

Ding Yuehua slowly turned her head to look at her own carriage.

Shu Yu followed her gaze, and the next moment realized, ”Are you talking about the horses?”

Ding Yuehua nodded slightly, ”I’m sorry, the two White Horses I promised you were taken by someone else, I, I already tried my best to...”

Seeing her fatigued appearance, Shu Yu looked at the direction she came from, it seemed she had just returned from out of town, and patted her shoulder, saying, ”Alright, it’s nothing, if we don’t have them, we don’t have them, we’ll look for others. I see you just came back? Haven’t eaten yet, have you? Come on, let’s get something to eat and talk while eating.”

As it was almost noon, conveniently, the Taibai Restaurant was just on their left on Ningshui Street.

Shu Yu pulled Ding Yuehua directly into the restaurant, followed the shop assistant to a private room on the second floor, ordered a few dishes, and then closed the door.

Ding Yuehua drank two mouthfuls of water, rubbed her face to feel more refreshed, and then said, ”I just got back from Donggu County, the day after tomorrow is your birthday, I originally thought of gifting you those two horses as a Coming-of-age Ceremony gift.”

As she spoke, she gave a bitter smile, ”I didn’t expect those horses to be taken by someone else.”

”Who took them?”

”County Magistrate Zhang.”

County magistrate??

No wonder, her rank is slightly higher than mine as Village Chief, in the entire Dongan Province, there aren’t many who would dare to not give her face.

As they were speaking, the shop assistant came in with several plates of food.

Ding Yuehua paused, waited for the server to leave before continuing, ”I had initially agreed with the Wu Family, yesterday that batch of horses already arrived in Donggu County. I rushed over, but my sister-in-law’s brother said that County Magistrate Zhang somehow got the news and asked the Wu Family to keep those two horses for her. Although the Wu Family does have some influence in Donggu County, they dare not openly offend the county magistrate.”

”Of course, those two horses are what I wanted, considering the family connections, the Wu Family would certainly lean toward us. So my sister-in-law’s brother told the county magistrate that those two horses fell ill on the road and probably wouldn’t live much longer, not daring to sell them to anyone.”

Shu Yu paused with her chopsticks, ”Thus, those two horses could neither be sold to the county magistrate nor to me.”

The loss of not being able to sell the two fine horses would be significant for the Wu Family as well.

Ding Yuehua nodded, ”My sister-in-law’s brother had no choice, he naturally wanted to sell them to us. Just think about the 80 mu of pasture you have that you’ll eventually sell to him, we have a good relationship, but it’s just, just...”

She put down her chopsticks, hesitating a bit, and said, ”It’s just, Yu, I’m afraid this county magistrate is targeting you.”

If they insisted on selling the horses to her, County Magistrate Zhang would not only hold a grudge against the Wu Family but would also find an excuse to go after Yu.

Shu Yu was stunned, ”Targeting me?? But I don’t recall knowing any county magistrate, and I certainly have no dealings with County Magistrate Zhang.”

Indeed, there is a County Magistrate Zhang in Dongan Province; when the Shu family had not yet fallen, the eldest daughter of the Shu family seemed to have some contact with her. But as far as she knew, the interactions were not much, and the two families didn’t seem to be in the same circle.

As for her, a transparent Third Sister who rarely stepped out of the residence, she had never even seen her.
