The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1021: Chapter 1021: Dare Not Face Shu Yu

Madam Liang truly didn’t know; she only knew that Yu had bought the manor and farmland.

Back then, Third Lu had tagged along, but there was a murder case at the manor, so the transaction couldn’t be completed on that day.

As for any progress afterward, Lu Sanzhu didn’t know. He had to go to work.

That’s over a hundred acres of land, and it’s just handed over to Daniu to manage?

Madam Liang felt sour inside. Upon seeing her expression, Madam Li burst into laughter, ”Hey, you’ve got to admit Yu is really good to our Daniu. Over a hundred acres of land! If it weren’t someone she trusted completely, who’d feel comfortable letting them manage it? Yu said Daniu is a man, and managing the shop isn’t exactly convenient for him. But she wouldn’t treat Daniu, as her elder brother, unfairly either.”

The more Madam Li spoke, the more confident she became. ”Third sister-in-law, you said that when Daniu was a shopkeeper before, he earned three taels of silver per month. Now he’s the Village Chief, overseeing so many people. Surely he’s making at least fifteen taels a month now, right? Your Old Third doesn’t make that much, does he? If we keep saving at this rate, two or three hundred taels of silver—why, in two or three years, we’ll have enough saved up, don’t you think?”

Madam Liang was furious. ”So what if you save money quickly? Yu still lent money to us, didn’t she? And wasn’t it for Daniu to buy a house?”

”That’s because Daniu doesn’t need to buy one in the county town. He’s got a place to live; he’s staying at the big manor. It’s bigger than the house you bought, isn’t it?”

”Even if it’s bigger, it’s not his own. Yu clearly said that buying a house now is a good deal. When there are such good things, she thinks of us first.”

”Why doesn’t she let Old Third do her work then? It’s because Yu looks down on Old Third for being lazy, sly, and meddlesome!”

”Our family...”

Shu Yu stood at the kitchen doorway, feeling neither right about stepping in nor staying out.

You’ve said so much already—why don’t you just say it directly in front of me? I can tell you the reason, honestly!

”Yu, why aren’t you going in?” Lu Sixing’s surprised voice suddenly came from beside her.

The two quarrelling people inside the kitchen instantly froze, then spun around sharply to see Shu Yu and Lu Sixing standing outside.

Their earlier words—how much had they overheard?

Madam Li hurriedly lowered her head, focusing on stoking the fire.

Madam Liang forced out an awkward laugh, bowing her head as she scooped up the noodles. ”You’ve waited long, haven’t you? Let’s eat, let’s eat.”

Neither of them mentioned the earlier spat in the kitchen. They even avoided making eye contact with Shu Yu throughout the meal.

Madam Li, especially, was extraordinarily quiet afterward—so much so that Lu Dasong began to wonder if she was feeling unwell.

Madam Li didn’t say a word. After finishing the meal, she didn’t even bother to look at houses; instead, she used the excuse of having unfinished business at home and hurried back to Shangshi Village.

She even forgot to ask Shu Yu about the specific location of the manor, not to mention following up on the medicine she had prepared earlier for Zhou Qiao.

It wasn’t until she lay down to sleep that night that she suddenly realized it.

Unable to sleep, she nudged Lu Dasong, lying beside her. ”Hey, Daniu’s father, don’t you think Yu is far too biased? She’s way too kind to Old Third and his wife. That pair of irresponsible folks—how could she dare lend them money? Isn’t she afraid they won’t pay it back? Or maybe Yu never planned on asking them to repay it, treating the money as a gift to Old Third to buy a house?”

Thinking about this possibility made Madam Li feel even more upset. ”That won’t do—why lend them money but not lend us any? Daniu’s father, you should talk to Yu later. Tell her Daniu’s getting married and also needs to buy a house. She should lend him some money.”
