My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1904: Chapter 1699: Afterimage

Watching your departing back, the smile at the corners of my mouth vanished in my eyes, only pretending sweetness on our faces.

Her departure left his heart mixed with complex emotions, unsure of what to do. Although sometimes he felt disgusted by this feeling, he couldn’t deny that his wife provided him with much security. During the days she was there, whatever he did, there was always someone looking out for him. But now, in a fit of anger, he drove her away. Who would accompany him now, through tough times?

Ran Zhihan did it not for any other reason; she just hoped her husband would understand that in this world, anyone could be disbelieved, but a wife must be completely trusted. If suspicion arises between a couple, their relationship will not last long, eventually breaking due to the seed of doubt, leaving regret too late.

It was a trivial matter, yet the two of them made it to this state, neither willing to admit defeat, both feeling their stance was not wrong. But in the other’s eyes, such behavior was wrong, and no one could understand it as right.

Zhang Yichen was torn about whether to apologize to his wife. As he looked at the empty bed canopy and the large room with only himself, it seemed lifeless and lacking vitality. Inevitably, he felt lost. If his wife were here, how wonderful it would be; then he wouldn’t be so lonely without anyone to talk to.

People are like this—when possessing something, they don’t cherish it. Only when it’s completely lost do they realize the mistake. He should have expressed his true thoughts earlier, avoiding the current situation. But he didn’t realize it was due to his self-willed and domineering nature, being too centered on himself and disregarding his wife’s feelings, which made his wife resolve to let him deeply reflect.

Ran Zhihan went to her son’s room to sleep. He thought no matter what, he couldn’t let the son know about their marital issues. He didn’t want their relationship to affect his son’s normal judgment. He hoped his son could live peacefully, undisturbed by anything, which was enough for him.

”Child, do you know? If your dad chooses to leave mom, how lonely mom would be. But mom can no longer treat your dad like before, making him feel he can do wrong without bearing responsibility, or without thinking of how to please others. He never apologized to others. Yet, he must learn to say sorry once at least. So, this time, I hope you can forgive mom, forgive her for teaching your dad in such a cruel manner...”

Zhang Ni, in a daze, wouldn’t know his biological mother said so much beside him. He only knew that in his dreams, he saw a vast meadow filled with dandelions, where his mom and dad sat embracing, full of happiness. But he didn’t know reality was often contrary to dreams. His parents’ relationship was close to breaking.

Ran Zhihan looked at her son sleeping soundly, feeling mixed emotions. Her son, so young, living peacefully, how wonderful. Why should his life be fraught because of her? Why was she selfish, reluctant to give him more time? Why couldn’t she love her child like other parents, selflessly?

Why did her child have to endure so much pain? What was the purpose of this devilish training from a young age? Was it because his grandparents refused to return and care for him? Because he had to prove to them and the world that he was a capable man? Hence, did he need to endure pain other men didn’t?

The more he thought, the more resentment grew. Why did other parents always accompany their children, having someone to discuss with, while he abandoned his family for luxury? Reflecting now, he realized he valued money too much, even at the expense of his own parents. It’s time he visited them.

Reflecting on his parents, they sacrificed so much during his upbringing. Seeing his father’s hair turn grey instantly on his wedding day, he felt helpless. But now, he wondered, was it all for a man who doubted and constantly questioned him? He abandoned his biological parents, his heart cruel. Why did his parents never blame him? Why, in their eyes, was his children’s happiness enough?

Zhang Yichen turned over and over in the empty room, unable to sleep, missing someone beside him, feeling out of place. He hoped he could find a way to bring his wife back. He didn’t want years of hard work maintaining their relationship to break.

Actually, for such a minor issue, if one side apologized, how could the other not forgive? Yet, his stubborn pride stopped him from apologizing to his wife, which made her truly unwilling to deal with him. Why did he repeatedly lower his head, and his wife waited for him to apologize? He didn’t realize it was often his mistake, yet his wife, for his sake, acted as if it was hers, apologizing to him.

Zhang Yichen thought for a whole night, finally resolving to find his wife back. It was just an apology, three simple words, ”I’m sorry.” It wouldn’t kill him. Why let his lifelong happiness be affected?

”Right, let’s do it. How could she not return after I apologize?”

Sometimes, you want to detach, but care too much, preferring pain over easily giving up.
