My Alleged Husband

Chapter 551: Chapter 530: Extending a Helping Hand (Three)_1

Zhang Zhentian had not expected his thoughts to be so blatantly exposed in front of his wife, his deceit uncovered so effortlessly. He had never imagined this day would come so swiftly.

In the past, he always thought that no matter what he said, his wife would naively believe every word he uttered, even if they were all lies meant to deceive her into staying by his side. Yet she would still trust him wholeheartedly. But when had that trust transformed into today’s situation, where every word he said appeared to her as lies, unable to receive even a single genuine response? Why?

”Zhang Zhentian, do you wonder why, even when you tell me the truth, I still think you’re lying?”

”Because I don’t believe a single word you say anymore. In my eyes, even if you’re speaking honestly, it’s a lie to me. You betrayed me and left me with a heart-wrenching pain that I will never forget for as long as I live. How ruthless must you have been to abandon me without hesitation? Do you know how much it hurt me at that moment? Do you understand the agony is enough for me to live in the torment of that memory for a long time?”

”Did you not foresee that your lies to me would be so easily exposed this time, while in the past I would naively believe every word you said, wholeheartedly and without a strand of doubt? But why today, when you lie to me, I only have scorn and disbelief for you, and I absolutely don’t believe any of your words?”

”Actually, you should have anticipated this outcome long ago. The lies you told in order to leave me—I still haven’t forgotten them, and I don’t need to repeat them to you, because my heart aches a little more each time I mention those words from that day. Back then I loved you with all my being, recklessly and at any cost, but you—when it came to leaving, you just did, over a lie, and you couldn’t bear me telling you a lie. You called me a liar, but in the end, who is the real liar? It’s clear to both of us. Often times, there’s no need for others to reveal it, and now that I don’t believe your lies, it’s the best punishment for you. You should reflect on why I’m telling you all this today. Once bitten, twice shy—I’ve suffered enough over this and will no longer unconditionally believe you. The ultimate result of my blind faith was your ruthless abandonment, leaving me hurt without a single word of apology. Now that I’ve received that apology, you plan to use me again. Do you really see me as so insignificant? Once wasn’t enough for you? You have to keep using me, seeing me as a woman who’d do anything for money. That’s what you’ve always thought, isn’t it?”

”I...”

Zhang Zhentian was left speechless by Xia Jing’s questioning, which he had to admit; from the beginning, he indeed harbored such thoughts. But as time went by, he realized how easily deceived she was, as she repeatedly believed him. He slowly developed feelings for her. Yet in the end, he had to kick her out because he had more significant plans. What he didn’t expect was that after casting her aside, he realized he had grown to love her.

”Lost for words, aren’t you? You know very well what you’ve done; there’s no need for me to spell it out. I was really foolish and naive for you, foolishly thinking that my sincere treatment of you would be reciprocated with your genuine affection. But in the end, I realized I was a fool; even if I presented the whole world to you on a silver platter, you would never consider my love real. You’d think I was giving up something to achieve some other purpose. In fact, you didn’t know that wasn’t like me at all. When you wanted to enter the Mercenary, I agreed. I even handed over all affairs of the Mercenary for you to manage. But what did I find out about the things you instructed my people to do behind my back?”

”After all I did for you, is your heart truly made of stone? Why am I giving my all for you, yet you remain indifferent? Your heart is so cruel that it almost makes me doubt you’re the person I once shared a pillow with. Whenever you showed me any kindness, my heart swelled with joy; I always thought you were slowly changing your attitude toward me, indicating that you were beginning to accept me. I dreamed of the day when you’d sincerely accept me so we could be together happily ever after, never bothering about worldly affairs again. But then you dealt me a fatal blow, dropping me from heaven into an unending abyss!”

”Beside you, I could only suffer in silence, weeping alone with no one to comfort me. Despite having so much anguish inside, I couldn’t share it with anyone; I swallowed it quietly, letting it fester within. Meanwhile, you were enjoying your life, never sparing a thought for the woman you abandoned, where she might be grieving now, or considering your wife of over a decade, all alone in the cold wind... Have you ever thought about that? Probably not. No matter what you say today, I won’t believe it. I know your father is seriously ill, but I hope you fulfill your duties. Don’t use your father’s illness to emotionally blackmail me; such tactics no longer work on me. I am no longer the Xia Jing who would give up everything on your whim. I’ve given enough and endured the consequences. Rest assured, I will agree to accompany you to see your father because he was genuinely kind to me. But after this, let’s not contact each other again.

This time, consider my help as the last time I extend my hand to you, because there aren’t many opportunities in life to offer help, but this is the last one. I will never assist you again for any reason because you’re just not worth my help...”
