My Alleged Husband

Chapter 571: Chapter 550 Leaving_1

”Since that’s the case, then let’s agree to this: we’ll have a three-year pact. If in three years you really can show me a different side of yourself, I would be willing to return to your side and spend my life with you. If at that time you’re still the same, accomplishing nothing and showing no change, then when I leave again, I hope you won’t find any excuses to stop me from leaving your side. As a man, you should have the courage to accept responsibility for your words. Once spoken, a promise must be kept. A man’s word is his bond, and I hope you truly understand this!”

”So in your heart, you still don’t trust me. In fact, the very fact that I can utter such words proves that I truly want to spend the rest of my life with you. Since I’ve said this, it shows I’m really committed to changing. I won’t go back on my word like before, contradicting myself. I want to be a proud man, someone you look up to, not someone you’ll always regard with contempt from the bottom of your heart.

If you’re willing to trust me, then agree to this pact with me. Since you’ve agreed to it already, my heart knows that you do trust me. So don’t doubt me over and again; it’s not good for you, and it torments me as well. Why do we have to exhaust each other this way, when we could give each other a way out? Must you make my life so miserable? The love in my heart for you will never change, but I truly hope you’ll treat me as if I were the one you love most!”

”I must say, you really were the person I loved most in my heart. But because of the pain you’ve inflicted upon me time after time, my heart has chosen to stop loving you. Since I no longer love you, how can you possibly still be the one I love most? I didn’t want to say these things to hurt you; I wanted to abide by the agreement we made. But I have to be honest. I do not want to give you aimless hope, not to give you hope only to let you down again. I’ve already experienced that pain. No matter what, you were once the one I loved most in my heart. I won’t let you experience the pain I once did. I hope you’ll think carefully about what you really should do to achieve the best outcome.”

”I’ve already booked my ticket. In a few days, I’ll be leaving this place. Before then, I hope you won’t disturb me. I want to rest properly, to clear my head, to figure out what the right course of action is.”

”Remember what I’ve said. If you truly hope that one day I will return to your side, then I hope you will truly change, and I don’t just mean becoming different from before. The biggest difference is whether you can return to your father’s side, whether you can fulfill the responsibilities of being a son, a father. If you can’t do that, then please don’t contact me ever again. I will change all my contact information so that you won’t be able to find me over these three years. Don’t think you can take your chances. If I find out that you’ve been investigating me just to get in touch, then I’m sorry, I will never forgive you.”

”You should understand why I’m doing this. The most important thing for a person is their child, their father. Yet, you could abandon your own child, your own biological father, which proves that you lack even the most basic integrity as a man. I hope you ponder what you should do to make me want to return to your side, instead of resorting to unscrupulous means to get back at others, trying to win me back by any means necessary. Even if one day I return to your side, my heart won’t be there.”

Upon hearing Xia Jing’s words, Old Master Zhang finally understood that his daughter-in-law’s three-year pact was all for his sake. He knew he had always wanted his biological son to return to his side, to keep him company. As a father, he had groveled and begged his son to come back home, only to be coldly rejected. But now, because of his decision, his son had no choice but to return and keep him company. Even though his decision might not have been correct, at least it was made in hopes of realizing his most humble wish—to have his son by his side.

”I understand. Now that you’ve made this decision, I’ll adhere to our three-year pact we made. Don’t worry, whatever you want I will give you, and whatever you don’t want to see, I will change for you. I’ll definitely become different from before. I hope you can wait for me in these three years. In three years’ time, I’ll make you willingly come back to me. I won’t use extreme methods anymore. I will properly accompany my father and take care of our son. I want you to know that I truly love you; for you, I am willing to change everything.”

Xia Jing nodded, turned, and left without looking back, leaving Zhentian alone, silently watching her retreating figure, powerless to do anything.

He knew that this time he really had no way to make his woman come back to him. He could no longer stretch out his hand to forcibly keep her by his side. Doing that would only drive her further away.

Although no one wanted this outcome, they had to accept it as the inevitable conclusion. It was predestined and wouldn’t change for anyone’s words or decisions. They had chosen this path, so all they could do was wait another three years. Maybe after three years, things would truly be different. Perhaps after three years, they still wouldn’t have the fate to reunite.

These three years were just a deadline for each other, perhaps by then they would have already forgotten the existence of one another, with the feelings in their hearts slowly fading away. Who would still remember the promise made three years earlier or continue to hold on to it for a lifetime?

Maybe after three years, everyone could truly fall in love again.

Or maybe after three years, they would just remain strangers forever.
