My Alleged Husband

Chapter 565: Chapter 544 No Turning Back_1

Old Master Zhang knew that this matter had become irreversible, and no matter what he said, it wouldn’t change a thing. Since things had reached this point, why not accept it as it is? Wouldn’t it be better to let the young people handle their own affairs?

But whenever he thought of his son’s disappointed gaze, his heart still ached. That was his own flesh and blood. No matter how terrible the things he had done, as a father, how could he possibly abandon him? How could he not intervene in his son’s marriage? If he really acted that way, how could his son lead a happy life?

At the same time, he understood how unyielding his daughter-in-law’s decision was. The words she spoke never changed due to anybody’s influence.

Yet, when he thought back on his overbearing daughter-in-law, who had once given up all her attitudes and principles over a trivial story told by his son, he couldn’t help but remember how she had transformed his son into someone utterly different. But there would never be such a change again; it was destined. The outcome was bound to be as it is. These fated relationships only made matters worse, and no one ever considered what had led this couple to such a state. It always seemed like all the blame was placed on you, without ever contemplating the husband’s faults or where his son might have gone wrong.

”My child, I know that the love between you once was true, but I also know that love has dissipated with the wind because of the harm he has caused you, and it can never return. However, I hope you understand that sometimes, once you make a decision, that very decision can wound you all over.

I know exactly what kind of person you are, and that you could do anything for the one you love, or leave without a second glance for someone you don’t. Your nature is so free-spirited; nothing could ever bind you and make you stay. But because of my son, who has now become an obstacle in your life’s journey—he never thought he would hinder your progress. But do you realize? His heart is truly strong, and he truly loves you as his most beloved...”

”Dad, whether he sees me as his most beloved person or not, there are things I must make clear. Just because he loves me, does that give him the right to hurt me however he pleases? If he loves me in his heart, how could he not realize the pain his actions cause me, and how they might make me wish for death? He never considered this. So why bother telling me he loves me? Is this what his love amounts to?

I once said that if his love for me ever soured, then I could not continue to live with him. You might not have been aware of this, but I said it long ago, just like now, how his love for me has changed. Why should I cling desperately to him? Wouldn’t that just be masochism?

Everyone knows how much I loved her, and to what lengths I would go for her, but what about her? She just cast me aside over a few disagreeing words, abandoning me carelessly. Is this how a real man behaves? Does he truly have place for a wife like me in his heart? If he can discard even his spouse so readily, then what is there that he couldn’t give up?

I could have forgiven his actions time and time again, pretending the hurt he caused me never happened. But why should I? Just because he said he loved me? Has he ever fulfilled any promises he made to me? Why should I continue to treat her well when, in his eyes, I am nothing but a worthless person? During the time he abandoned me, I hid under my blankets at night, crying until I almost suffocated, yet no one was there to comfort me. Who could understand that feeling of pain from loss—the pain of losing a loved one is like being flayed alive. He’s never experienced that pain, and so he cannot fathom how much I’m suffering. With this in mind, I will make sure he understands. If he so easily gives up on a relationship, then it’s not love. And if a relationship can be discarded so effortlessly, then there’s no need to talk about love, because that kind of love isn’t worthy of being spoken.

Love isn’t simply vows or promises. It’s about making true every word you say to me, having me truly in your heart, and treating me as a part of your family. That’s what love is—that’s the treatment within a marital relationship. Whatever happens, we should face it together, always trusting each other without doubt. That’s what a real couple is. Since she couldn’t even do one of these, why should they stay with me? To share a lifetime of sorrow and pain? Does he really hate me that much? If so, I wish he would clearly express it and not resort to petty tricks to harm me. I’m no saint; I can’t withstand his repeated hurts. My heart really hurts!”

”I really don’t want to deal with this anymore. I’m truly fed up. Time and time again he seeks me out, pesters me incessantly, and all he wants is to give himself a way out. Since he has already hurt me, there’s no use in trying to please me now. It’s all in vain. I will not look back, nor is there any path for me to return. The decision I’ve made is final and won’t change for anyone. To keep abandoning my principles for her sake is something he does not deserve and is not worth it...”

Old Master Zhang watched as Xia Jing cried a heavy rain of tears, understanding it was genuine harm to her feelings. She was in such severe pain that she forcibly held back her tears from falling—an act that required immense willpower.

When a man can bring a woman to tears to the point where even breathing is difficult, it only means that this man has truly hurt the woman deeply. And this foolish woman, who loved so deeply, so fiercely, ended up unable to even save herself.
