My Alleged Husband

Chapter 560: Chapter 539 Conversation (Part 1)_1

Zhang Zhentian really didn’t know what to do. His wife had decided to ignore him completely, so what should he do? With the world so vast, couldn’t he find one woman willing to sincerely stay by his side and share his joys and sorrows? Did he have no charm left after all these years? He couldn’t believe it. He refused to accept that, as the son of a prominent family, he couldn’t win the love and admiration of another woman.

After some thought, he decided to hand over this thorny issue to his father. He was at his wit’s end and had no choice but to humble himself before his father. At last, he had decided to seek his father’s mercy, to ask for his help in persuading his wife to return to him. He could not afford to lose her. Given this, he never considered why he had done something so hurtful in the first place, something that wounded another’s heart deeply. Could a shattered heart be mended just like a broken cup? Could a broken cup ever be restored to its original, intact state? That was undoubtedly impossible.

Elder Zhang, aware of his son’s request, couldn’t help but feel sentimental. Never had he imagined that the son he had worked so hard to raise would end up in such a situation. He didn’t expect this day to arrive so soon. Though he knew it was inevitable given his son’s actions, this woman certainly wouldn’t stay by his son’s side forever. His son’s behavior had deeply hurt everyone; even more so, a wife who had silently given so much for him without asking for anything in return. If his son could so easily cast her aside, let alone others, how could he not hate, not resent, not complain about all that had transpired?

In the end, Old Master Zhang had no choice; he decided to help his son. After all, that was his own flesh and blood. He couldn’t be as heartless as his son, completely devoid of emotion.

That day, Old Master Zhang arranged for Xia Jing to meet him at the hospital. He decided it was best to have a proper talk with his daughter-in-law.

”Dad, I don’t know why you’ve contacted me today after such a long time with no contact. I’ve been feeling guilty, with your health in this condition, and yet I haven’t set foot in this house to see you. It’s my fault, but when I think about it, with the way things are now, I don’t have any right to come back to this house to see you. Xia Tian and I have completely severed our relationship, and therefore I have no reason to stand in this house. Perhaps it’s inappropriate for me to call you ’dad’ today, but please forgive me for speaking to you this way. I’ve always been an orphan without any relatives, so I am grateful for the many years of care you’ve given me. I regard you as my own biological father, and that will never change in this lifetime, no matter what happens between Zhentian and me or how things end. You will always be my father, a fact no one else can change!”

After hearing Xia Jing’s words, Old Master Zhang was undeniably moved. He had always preferred his son over his daughter-in-law, yet his daughter-in-law remembered his number. Why couldn’t his own son do the same? Could his son really be so ungrateful? Why did his own flesh and blood treat him this way? His heart ached, although not as intensely as it once did. Perhaps it was because his heart had already been thoroughly wounded.

Although it pained him to bring it up, he had to clarify things. He couldn’t allow his son and daughter-in-law’s relationship to be filled with misunderstandings. If that were the case, he would find no peace.

”Dad, if you called me here today to speak on Zhentian’s behalf, then don’t bother. I hope you can listen quietly to what I have to say, okay? The destruction of our relationship is nobody else’s business. If blame must be assigned, it’s because we were both too naive. He thought that everything I did for him should be taken for granted, but think about it—no one is obliged to give everything to someone else unconditionally for a lifetime. I could have given everything for him without a second thought, but what was the result? He cruelly abandoned me—this is a fact that all of you have seen. Doesn’t your heart feel sympathy for me? Don’t you pity me? I only wanted a stable life, but he ended up giving me a life of turmoil. Much of it is due to the choices I made myself, forcing me onto this path.

But do I really deserve this? Do I deserve to be hurt by him time and again? Do I deserve all the pain caused by him? Do I deserve to be wounded all over without any chance to fight back? I once thought that as long as I could be with him, no hardship would scare me. But later I realized, he’s not the person I can entrust my life to. He can’t give me the stable life I want. He’s always been suspicious, never trusting me. Being with me, he always felt I was after your family’s wealth, but if that were true, when your business was failing, I wouldn’t have reached out to help you. I could have found another man immediately, but I didn’t do so because I truly cared for him; I saw him as my lifetime partner. However, he didn’t think the same way.

To be honest, his actions have left me heartbroken. A woman with a broken heart can’t possibly treat a man the same way as before. Perhaps one day he will understand that abandoning me was his mistake, and had nothing to do with me. But I must make sure he clearly remembers this lesson, because once the seed of doubt is planted, the marriage is doomed to be incomplete!”
