My Alleged Husband

Chapter 552: Chapter 531: Lending a Hand (Part 4)_1

”Perhaps you feel that my words to you today are a bit cold-hearted, but have you ever considered the things you did, whether they’ve cast any shadows in my heart, whether they’ve caused me any pain? You once hurt me so deeply, yet now you come seeking my help again. By what right? Do you even have the qualifications? I can overlook all that you did to me in the past, but that doesn’t mean I can forget. Such wounds aren’t so easily forgotten. Don’t you understand this even now?”

”You really don’t need to play the victim in front of me. My word is my bond. I’m not like those who forget their promises as soon as they turn their heads, acting as if they’d never made them at all. I’m not heartless like some, who can ignore even their own biological fathers. I’ve lost my family; my parents passed away long ago. I’m destined to be alone for life. Yet, my greatest pride is having a son. I don’t regret loving this person, but I do regret ever being with him!”

For Zhang Zhentian, Xia Jing’s words were like a bolt from the blue. He had obtained the outcome he wanted, but why did his heart still ache so much all of a sudden? Could it be that he really couldn’t let go of her, just as she had said? Reflecting back, how had he earned the right to cause her such harm? How could his brief plea for forgiveness make her completely forgive him?

”Since you’ve agreed to come back with me to give my grandfather some comfort, why do you have to say these things to hurt me? Am I really so unworthy of your trust? Was hurting me over and over again not enough that you have to wound me with your words this time? Do you hate me that much? I did things I shouldn’t have, and I’ve said it many times: it was my fault. Can’t you see my genuine remorse? Why has your heart become so cruel? Why am I so insignificant in your eyes that you must wound me in this way?”

Zhang Zhentian shouldn’t have asked that. Her question made his temper flare even more. What did he mean, at what point had he wronged her? Hadn’t she done enough wrong to him? The nerve of this man, to have done so much wrong and still ask so brazenly. She had never seen such shameless audacity before. To think she had been with such a barefaced man for so many years was an insult to herself. How could she have been so blind to have chosen such a man?

”Search your heart: haven’t you wronged me? Do you even qualify as a man? Without the slightest sense of responsibility or even the courage to own up to it, you have the gall to ask me where you’ve wronged me?

If I were you, I’d blush at such a question, my heart racing with shame, because no one would believe a word of it. Yet you unabashedly asked. What do you mean by that? Is this the attitude of someone asking for a favor? Who would want to help you with such arrogance?”

”Stop, don’t say another word, because I won’t give you the chance to speak. Just listen quietly to what I have to say!

”I may have forgotten your misdeeds, but I will not forget the numerous times you easily glossed over them. Don’t you have even a shred of remorse? How far do you plan to err before you’re satisfied? You expect to simply erase the mistakes you’ve made as if they never happened. I might pretend to forget, but why do you repeatedly insult my dignity? My father’s kindness to me is a reflection of his love, which has nothing to do with you. I agreed to go back today because of all the care and concern my father has shown me, nothing to do with you. So, don’t flatter yourself into thinking that my comforting my father is to give you face. You’re sorely mistaken. Why should I give you any credit? You’re nothing to me; we have no connection. Why should I help you in every instance? So, think carefully before you act; don’t do something that makes you look arrogant in others’ eyes!”

”How can you talk to me like that? Just like you said, I’m nothing to you now, and we have no relationship. So why do you feel entitled to talk to me, to lecture me, in that tone? Are you someone to me now? You’ve just forgotten what you said moments ago. Don’t you find that funny? You’ve just said that we have no relationship, and yet you scold a stranger like that?”

”Since we’re strangers, as you’ve said yourself, then I have no obligation to help you anymore. You should bear the consequences of your own mistakes; don’t think of sharing your burden with me. You’ve made it very clear. From now on, there’s no need for us to have any further contact. Don’t use these issues to coax sympathy from me again, because you simply don’t deserve any sympathy from me. You have no clue about the sacrifices any woman makes for you. I gave up so much for you, and this is how you repay me. I was blind to have fallen in love with scum like you. I’m alert now. If I find a boyfriend, he will be an upright, responsible man who can take care of his wife, his son, and bear the burdens of a family, not a worthless man like you. What gives you the right to exist in this world? If I were you, I would have flung myself off a cliff long ago. It’s a waste of food and an insult to the air to have such a person in this world. I don’t want to say more to you. Rest assured, I will visit my father, but it has nothing to do with you. If you try to gain my sympathy with these issues in the future, don’t expect me to be courteous. If I can say such harsh words to you now, it means I can follow through. Don’t doubt any word I say to you...”
