My Alleged Husband

Chapter 597: Chapter 576: Should an Apology Be Made?_1

As his wife walked away, his heart was filled with mixed emotions, truly unsure of what to do. Although sometimes he was slightly averse to the feeling, he had to admit that his wife indeed provided him with a lot of security. In those days with her, no matter what he did, there was always someone to watch out for him. But now, in a fit of anger, he had driven that person away. So who would accompany him, stand by his side, and face the challenges together?

Ran Zhihan didn’t have any other intention in doing this. She just wanted her husband to understand that in this world, one could distrust anyone, but one must trust implicitly in the bond between husband and wife. Once doubt crept in, their relationship would definitely not last long, and one day, due to the seed of suspicion, their bond would completely shatter, leaving only regrets.

It wasn’t such an important matter initially, but it had been blown out of proportion by both parties, neither willing to back down, each convinced their actions were right. Yet in the eyes of the other, these actions were deemed mistakes, and no one could see them as anything but wrong.

Zhang Yichen was in turmoil, agonizing over whether he should apologize to his wife. Looking at the empty canopy of his bed, the room felt vast and void of life, lacking any vitality. It was inevitable that he felt a sense of loss. How nice it would be if his wife were here, then he wouldn’t be so utterly alone, without even someone to talk to.

That’s how people are; they don’t cherish what they have until it’s gone. Only after a complete loss do they realize their mistakes and that they should have shared their true feelings with each other earlier. Then perhaps things wouldn’t have turned out this way. But he didn’t understand that it was his stubbornness, his unilateral decisions, and being too centered on himself that ignored his wife’s feelings, which finally made her resolute to make him reflect sincerely.

Ran Zhihan went to sleep in her son’s room, thinking that no matter what, she couldn’t tell her son about their marital problems. She wanted her son to lead a peaceful life, undisturbed by anything—that alone would have been enough.

”Child, do you know? If your dad chose to leave mom, how lonely mom would be. But I really can’t treat your father the way I did before. Doing so would only make him feel no matter what he did wrong, he doesn’t need to take responsibility or think about how to appease others. He never apologizes to anyone, but he must learn to say sorry this once. So, I hope you can forgive mom, forgive mom for using such a cruel way to teach your dad...”

Zhang Ni was sleeping soundly, how could he possibly know all the words his mother whispered by his ear? He only knew that in his dream, he saw a vast meadow covered with dandelions, where he saw his mom and dad embracing each other, sitting on the grass, blissful and happy. But he didn’t know that reality often contradicts dreams, that in the real world, his parents were at loggerheads, their relationship nearly in tatters.

Looking at her son sleeping peacefully, Ran Zhihan felt a mixture of emotions. If only her son could live a simple, stable life, how wonderful that would be. Why let his life be troubled due to her own reasons? Why was she so selfish? Why couldn’t she give him more time? Why couldn’t she love her child unconditionally, like other parents did?

Why should her child endure so much pain? Why was he subjected to such harsh training from a young age? Was it because his grandparents weren’t willing to come back and take care of her? Was it to prove to them, to the whole world, that he was a capable man? Was that why he had to suffer pains that no other man had to endure?

The more she thought, the less she could accept it. Other people always had their parents by their side, someone to talk to and consult with. But for the sake of joining a wealthy family, she had long cast her own parents aside. Now, thinking about it, she felt she had overvalued money too much, to the point of being willing to abandon her own parents. It was time to visit her parents at home.

Thinking back to her own parents, they had sacrificed so much during her growing years. Seeing her father’s hair turn white almost instantly on the day she got married brought a sense of helplessness to her heart. But what was all her sacrifice for? For a man who didn’t trust her and was full of doubts? To think she had deserted her own flesh and blood for him. How could her heart be so cold? Why did her parents never blame her? Why did they seem content as long as their children were happy?

Zhang Yichen tossed and turned alone in the empty room, unaccustomed to the absence of another person. He still wished he could find a way to bring his wife back. He didn’t want the relationship they had struggled to maintain for so many years to end like this!

In reality, the issue was minor; if one party apologized, how could the other not forgive them? Yet he stubbornly refused to acknowledge his mistakes and apologize to his wife. And because of this, his wife truly didn’t want to bother with him. Time and again, why was it always him who had to bow his head, waiting for an apology, while often it was his own fault, and yet, to save his face, his wife would apologize as though she was the one at fault.

After a night of contemplation, Zhang Yichen finally resolved to find his wife and bring her back. What was an apology? A simple ”I’m sorry,” just three little words that wouldn’t cost him his life. Why insist on risking his lifetime of happiness for it?

”Yes, that’s right, I’ll do just that. I don’t believe that once I personally apologize, this woman won’t come back to my side!”
