My Alleged Husband

Chapter 569: Chapter 548 Eternal Home_1

Xia Jing had never expected that her husband would so readily choose to let her go far away, to another place. She knew that every request of hers was almost an impossible task for the man before her. Although she said she no longer wished to have any contact with this man, deep down, she still harbored some hope for it. She hoped that one day she could meet again with the man she had once loved. Her heart would never forget him, though she claimed to have already forgotten, the truth was that she just didn’t want to face her own heart. How could she let others see her inner pain and sprinkle salt over her wounds time and again?

Zhang Zhentian forced a smile, greeting his wife with it. He knew, maybe this would be the last time he ever saw his wife, but he had no regrets. In fact, he felt it was a good outcome. Everything that had come to pass was due to his own actions, and now it all would ultimately end because of him.

Xia Jing looked at her husband’s difficult, forced smile. Her heart still ached, for no matter what, he was the man she had once loved most. But today, things had changed, and how could her heart not feel the pain? Even if, in the end, she had little to do with it all, she still couldn’t entirely escape blame.

”You don’t need to waste your time on me anymore. You can find a woman more deserving of your affection. She will be better than me, not like me. Every action I take only brings you sadness, and after hurting you for so long, you should find your own happiness and live a joyful life. Don’t waste your time on me anymore, I’m not worth it.”

”In fact, you still care about me, right? You just don’t know how to talk to me, how to continue living with me. It was because I hurt you that you felt we were never right for each other. But I want to ask if you truly still have a place for me in your heart. I just want an honest answer. Please don’t make it harder for me, I’m begging you!”

”Of course, my true feelings include you. How could I just forget you like that? After all, you’re the person I spent over a decade with. I know the things I’ve done are like water spilled, beyond reclaiming. Spilled water cannot be retrieved, and everyone understands this. We’ve become like this, and neither of us should continue to trouble the other. You should have your own happy life, and I should wander alone to the ends of the earth I’ve longed for. It might be tough and painful, but I still want to take on the challenge. I don’t want to waste all my years here.”

”No matter what you’ve done or said, I’ve long stopped blaming you—I’ve forgiven you. I just didn’t know how to say these things to you. I thought if I told you sooner, I would lose my dignity. I’ve always been such a proud woman, willing to hurt the person I love most for the sake of my pride. You’ve always been deep in my heart, never leaving, and I just didn’t know how to face you.”

”Hearing your honest words moves me deeply. Thank you for telling me all of this. Take care when you’re out there alone. Don’t trust strangers too easily. You’re naive and easily fooled, so always be cautious and don’t trust anyone in the world besides me. I’m afraid you’ll be deceived, and I won’t be able to be by your side if you’re hurt and upset.”

”This situation is ultimately my fault, so I must take full responsibility. Now, I’m letting you go, hoping you’ll understand that I still love you. My love for you hasn’t decreased one bit; in fact, it’s grown stronger because you’ve given me such a perfect life. Though you won’t be by my side in the future, I will always be grateful to you for all the happy years you’ve given me.”

”I’ll say this again: if you grow tired of being out there, remember, where I am is your home. My place will always be your home. I’ll wait for you steadfastly to come back to me. I won’t lose you or trouble you again. I’ll silently support you from behind, respecting every decision you make. I’ll watch proudly as you achieve what you’ve set out to do by your own efforts. You’re still my wife, the wife of my lifetime, and nothing can change that fact. Maybe sometimes I’m too stubborn, but please believe I truly love you with all my heart...”

Xia Jing knew that it was incredibly difficult for Zhang Zhentian to express these words to her, and his willingness to do so today meant his heart had truly let go, allowing her a way out to brave the world on her own. Should she be happy about it? Why did she feel somewhat unhappy now? Was it because she couldn’t forget him?

”Since you’ve said that, I won’t say anything else. I only hope during this time, you’ll live the life you want, happily. Remember to take good care of yourself. Who knows, there might come a day when I’m tired of playing outside and wish to return to you. I hope you won’t disdain me then...”

The two individuals who once loved each other deeply had finally come to this path—a path chosen by no one and unforeseeable. The depth of their love ultimately gave way to mutual distrust and led their marriage to its demise. If they could have been more affectionate to each other from the start, perhaps things wouldn’t have become so complicated. They could have chosen not to come here, could have continued living together, but in the end, they chose separation—to pursue their own happiness sans the presence of the other.

Elder Zhang also exhaled a sigh of relief after listening to their conversation. The outcome was neither good nor bad. Perhaps it would ultimately benefit their mutual trust. It could be considered a fortunate thing after all. He could finally be at ease.
