Super Rich by Doing as You Please

Chapter 166: Chapter 115: Whether It Looks Good or Not, Boss Xu Has the Final Say

Moreover, judging from the transaction details, the funds seemed to have come from an overseas private equity firm.

In other words, Xu Yun was very likely the scion of an overseas private equity fund.

’If I can win the trust of a private equity scion, my career will take off immediately.’

For a bank’s financial manager like her, there were only two career paths: become a branch manager or become the manager of a family’s wealth.

Cai Shiwei was very capable, but in the financial world, there were many people more capable than her.

Besides, in the banking industry, it wasn’t just about how capable you were or how much business you brought in; that alone couldn’t guarantee you’d climb the ladder.

To make it in this world, you also needed connections.

Coming from an ordinary family, it would be incredibly difficult for her to just wait out the years and gain enough seniority to become a branch manager—unless she met a powerful benefactor.

The reality for people like them was that most would tread water their entire careers, while a select few would be headhunted to become family asset managers, responsible for handling a family’s investment funds.

Now that such a golden opportunity had appeared right before her, how could she not be excited?

For Xu Yun, the five million was just for fun, a way to test his own business abilities.

But for Cai Shiwei, it was more like a test Xu Yun had set for her.

The test question was five million!

If she could ultimately deliver a satisfactory result, their relationship and trust would deepen, and perhaps she could truly become his asset manager in the future.

If she failed, their relationship would likely forever remain that of a bank’s financial manager and President Xu.

In reality, however, Xu Yun hadn’t thought that far ahead.

He took out the five million truly just to let Cai Shiwei test the waters.

If it made a profit, great.

If it lost money, it didn’t matter, just as he’d said. It would also shut Cai Shiwei up and prevent her from bothering him by pitching financial products in the future.

As for entrusting her with more funds in the future, that was just an empty promise he’d made, a carrot dangled to make sure she put some effort into spending the money.

Even though he acted like his money wasn’t real money, it was still best to make a profit. Who wants to lose, after all?

So, after finishing the paperwork for the house, the two of them proceeded to handle the financial product arrangements.

As Xu Yun’s authorized agent, Cai Shiwei was granted the right to buy and sell bank financial products within the five million yuan account limit.

Yu Xuan stood to the side the entire time, not saying a word.

Being around Xu Yun, she felt like money wasn’t money anymore, just a number.

It started in Shanghai. Hundreds of thousands in tips for streamers, given just like that. A watch worth several million, bought without a second thought.

The night before last, at dinner, he committed to a five-million-yuan investment as if it were nothing.

And now, the same thing.

He handed over five million to someone else as casually as if he were giving them five yuan.

In less than a week, she had watched Xu Yun spend nearly 15 million!

Yu Xuan didn’t know, nor did she have any idea, what Xu Yun’s net worth was.

But as a hotel butler, she had served many wealthy people.

Some were even worth over a hundred million!

They were all very rich, but none of them spent money as freely as Xu Yun, as if it meant nothing to him.

Before, she had been a little worried about her future.

’Now I see that I made the right choice.’

’It seems I’ve really latched onto a powerful backer.’

After they finished their business at the bank, on the way back, Yu Xuan was driving again with Xu Yun in the passenger seat.

A short while later, he received a message from Jiang Peiyao.

[Xu Yun, my house has been auctioned off by the court.]

Sitting in the passenger seat, Xu Yun read the message but didn’t tell her that he was the one who had bought the house.

He replied comfortingly: [It’s okay. Out with the old, in with the new. Just focus on taking care of your brother’s illness. I’m here for you.]

[Jiang Peiyao: Okay, I understand.]

A moment later, Jiang Peiyao sent another message.

[Xu Yun, I miss you a little.]

Xu Yun read her new message, but this time, he didn’t reply.

If it weren’t for the car enthusiast meet-up tomorrow, he might have acted on impulse, flown right over, and cured her of her longing.

But that was impossible right now.

Thinking about the meet-up tomorrow, Xu Yun glanced at the clothes Yu Xuan was wearing and frowned.

He said, ”Let’s go to Jiangshang Mall and buy some things.”

”Okay.”

Following Xu Yun’s directions, the two arrived at Jiangshang Mall.

He hadn’t been here to shop in a long time, not since Ning Qian had quit her job at the store.

For one thing, his excitement for luxury goods had faded; he no longer felt attached to them or cared much about them.

For another, he knew—thanks to Ning Qian—that the clothes displayed for sale in the store were just the leftovers that other customers hadn’t wanted.

The top-tier, exclusive items from these luxury brands were never even put out on the sales floor. As soon as a shipment arrived, they were offered to the store’s established clientele—the truly wealthy people who spent millions at the store every year.

They had separate VIP rooms.

So when the new season’s items came in, they were hung up directly in there, waiting for the rich patrons to come in and make their selections.

Alternatively, the store would deliver the items directly to their homes for them to choose from.

And they didn’t select clothes off a rack; they had dedicated models who would wear the outfits and stand before them so they could see how the clothes looked when worn.

When Xu Yun heard this from Ning Qian back then, he realized what a clown he’d been.

’I thought spending hundreds of thousands in one go was so impressive, but it turns out I wasn’t even worthy of walking through their VIP door!’

’Those saleswomen were really great actresses, making me feel like a genuine VIP!’

At the time, Ning Qian had explained the situation to him.

She said that the spending power he’d demonstrated when buying clothes was indeed higher than that of an average customer. If he had just continued to shop there a few more times, he too could have become one of the store’s high-end clients with access to the VIP rooms.
