Chapter 45: Chapter 45: I’m Not Interested in Women Lately

Meanwhile, Song Xiaowei, having finished her paperwork in the HR department, arrived at her desk.

The company hadn’t hired anyone new in a long time.

So when a beautiful female intern like her showed up, how could they not be excited?

All the single male colleagues’ eyes lit up the moment they saw the new intern.

They were ready to make their move.

They wouldn’t dare have any ideas about the unapproachably beautiful Manager Su, but a female intern who was just starting out in the professional world? That was a different story.

So, even though Song Xiaowei had just arrived, she was already very popular.

The single men were especially enthusiastic, all hovering around her and offering to help.

In contrast, Xu Yun, the one who had picked her up and brought her here, remained indifferent.

Song Xiaowei was indeed pretty, but he’d been around a few too many beautiful women lately and was starting to feel some aesthetic fatigue.

On top of that, he had been overexerting himself recently and was in the middle of a Skill cooldown, a recovery and maintenance phase.

Therefore, he currently had no interest in a girl like Song Xiaowei.

He found himself a cup, got some goji berries, and steeped them in hot water, placing the cup on his desk.

Seeing this, Xiaopang teased, ”Holy shit, you’re already on the goji berry tea?”

”You don’t get it.”

Xu Yun shook his head with a smile. ”You have to start taking care of your health early.”

”Man, I’m so jealous of your life right now.”

Xiaopang said, ”You used to work harder than any of us.”

”Alright, you think I can’t see what you’re up to?”

Noticing his distracted look, Xu Yun asked, ”This is about the new female intern, isn’t it?”

”Yeah, you get me.”

Xiaopang said awkwardly, ”I know you’re the one who picked her up. You must have her WeChat or phone number, right? Give it to me, and I’ll treat you to a meal.”

”I do have it, but why don’t you hear my opinion first?”

”Go on.”

Xu Yun said, ”Don’t even bother joining the crowd. It probably won’t work out. Why go and make a fool of yourself?”

”...” Xiaopang was speechless.

’Damn, that’s harsh.’

Xu Yun added meaningfully, ”It’s not just you. I reckon no one else in the company will succeed either.”

”Why?”

”Don’t think she’s an easy target just because she’s an intern.”

Xu Yun chuckled. ”She was probably a big shot back in school—pretty, and thinks she’s super capable. So, when girls like that first enter the workforce, before they’ve been beaten down by reality, their standards are sky-high. They look down on ordinary guys.”

”Now that you put it that way, I really don’t have a chance.”

One second, Xiaopang was eager to try; the next, he was completely discouraged.

Then, he looked at Xu Yun and said, ”We can’t do it, but you should go for it! You’re handsome, and you’ve got some money now. You could probably win her over.”

”I’m abstaining from women these days.”

Xiaopang: ”...”

Not far away, after finally dealing with all the enthusiastic male colleagues, Song Xiaowei took the initiative to approach Xu Yun.

’After all, he was the first person I met at the company. Plus, anyone who could drive a manager’s luxury car just to show off has to be someone special.’

”She’s coming for you.”

Seeing her approach, Xiaopang kicked off the floor and expertly slid back to his own desk, chair and all.

Xu Yun looked at her and asked, ”Can I help you?”

”Hi, Brother Xu.”

Song Xiaowei said with a smile, ”You weren’t at your desk earlier. Manager Li told me I’ll be shadowing you for a while. You’re supposed to be my mentor.”

”You studied broadcasting and hosting. I’m just a planner. What is there for me to teach you?”

Xu Yun replied, ”There’s not much going on right now. Just get to know the other colleagues. There’s a Chow Taifook commercial event coming up that you’ll probably need to host. I’ll let you know when the time comes.”

”Alright.” Song Xiaowei hadn’t expected to be treated this way.

She considered herself fairly attractive and was used to being popular wherever she went—the attitude of her other new colleagues just now was proof enough.

But unexpectedly, this Xu Yun wasn’t interested in her at all.

Ever since bringing her back to the office, he barely seemed to pay her any mind.

And yet, they had gotten along so well in the car earlier.

Song Xiaowei was a proud person, so she didn’t say anything more and simply turned to leave.

’If you won’t mentor me, then don’t. What’s the big deal?’

Seeing her leave, Xiaopang immediately slid back over.

”Dude, seriously, Xu Yun.”

Xiaopang said regretfully, ”That was a perfect opportunity just now, and you just let it go.”

”I’m not interested in women right now.”

Xiaopang: ”...”

’Sigh. It looks like his ex-girlfriend must have really hurt him after the wedding fell through.’

’He’s actually started to resent women.’

’Then again, anyone would feel terrible in that situation.’

Seeing that the conversation had hit a dead end, he tactfully returned to his work.

Now that he was no longer being bothered, Xu Yun opened his novel app, planning to do some reading.

He still hadn’t read anything since his last tip to rush the author for more Chapters.

He opened it to see 36 unread Chapters.

In other words, aside from the daily updates, she had only added 30 bonus Chapters, a total of 60,000 words.

After he finished reading them all, Xu Yun logged into QQ, ready to @ the author and ask where the rest of his promised updates were.

’A deal’s a deal. It was supposed to be one bonus Chapter per Alliance Lord tier.’

He then noticed a friend request from her, which had been sitting there for two days.

He clicked ’Accept’.

He then went to the group chat and @’d her with a message.

[Angry Brother: @Hua Zhu, you damn author, where are my updates? It was 100 Chapters, why are there only 30? Are you saving the rest for later?]

[Chen’an Weijian: Hell yeah, the whale is here to demand his updates.]

[Manke 1: The trash author will probably play dead, hahaha]

[Taibai Cat: @Hua Zhu, get out here, your daddy is calling for you to update.]

In her apartment, Chen Xin, who was frantically typing away at her computer, heard the QQ notification. She glanced down and saw that [Angry Brother] had @’d her. She immediately pushed her glasses up the bridge of her nose and switched windows.

[Hua Zhu: @Angry Brother, Boss, I can’t finish! There’s no way I can finish writing them all!]

[Hua Zhu: I haven’t slept for three days straight, I feel like I’m going to die. Can we negotiate? Could you give me a month to finish the bonus Chapters?]

Xu Yun chuckled as he read the humble author’s plea for mercy.

He was just joking around anyway. He wasn’t really trying to force her to write 100 bonus Chapters; he’d be happy with however many she could manage.

[Angry Brother: Sure, but on one condition.]

[Hua Zhu: Boss, name it. As long as it’s something I can do, I’ll agree.]

Facing her golden patron, Chen Xin didn’t dare to offend him. He was her provider, the source of her livelihood.

After all, the single Huang Jinmeng he had given her the other day was almost equivalent to her entire income from writing for a year.

[Liu’an Huaming: Didn’t he say before that if she doesn’t update, he’s gonna fuck the author? Hehe.]

[Yiye Xiaolou: Yeah, Angry Brother, this is the perfect chance.]

[Xiang Jinbu de Sanwan: Fuck +1]

[Aiai Wuyan: Fuck +2]

[...+99]

Although Chen Xin knew everyone was just trash-talking, she was still a girl. Seeing the screen fill up with messages about people wanting to fuck her still made her blush.

[Hua Zhu: Damn it, all of you, shut up!]

Xu Yun saw the messages too, but he had no interest in men.

[Angry Brother: @Hua Zhu, you have to cross-dress, then post a picture in the group chat for us to see. If you do that, I’ll agree.]

[Weiwei Yixiao: Hell yeah, I support Brother!]

[...x88]

Copying and pasting, the readers spammed the chat again.

Everyone loved seeing authors cross-dress.

Chen Xin hesitated as she read Xu Yun’s request.

’He did spend 100,000 in cold, hard cash, after all. This small request isn’t too unreasonable.’

[Hua Zhu: @Angry Brother, can I just send it to you privately?]

[Angry Brother: Okay.]

As soon as he said that, the group chat exploded.

[I object! I demand you post it in the group!]

[Fuck, Brother is keeping it all for himself!]

[Sigh, in the end, we’re just outsiders.]

[Say no more, I’m going to report the author right now! I’m gonna smash my keyboard doing it!]

Chen Xin ignored the other readers’ protests and had no intention of posting in the group chat.

She didn’t want to reveal her appearance or her gender.

After seeing that he had accepted her friend request, she found a nice-looking candid photo of herself on her phone and sent it to Xu Yun.

Xu Yun saw that she had sent the photo so quickly.

He was a little surprised!

’Even if he changed clothes immediately, he couldn’t be this fast, right?’

He clicked on it to take a look.

[Hua Zhu: Boss, I’m actually a girl, so I don’t need to cross-dress, hehe.]

[Hua Zhu: But please just look at it yourself and don’t share it in the group, okay? I don’t want to be exposed.]

Xu Yun: ”???”

’What does that mean? She’s a girl?’

’No way in hell.’

’There are no good-looking women on the internet. It’s always some gross dude on the other end.’

[Angry Brother: I don’t believe you. Not unless you send me a selfie right now, one with a watermark.]

[Hua Zhu: Okay.]

Seeing that he didn’t believe her, Chen Xin immediately aimed her camera at herself and snapped a picture.

[Hua Zhu: [Image*1]]

[Hua Zhu: So, Boss, do you believe me now?]

Xu Yun stared at the freshly taken photo, his feelings a complicated mess.

’I can’t believe it. This damn author is actually a girl!’

’And what’s more, she’s actually pretty and has an artsy vibe!’

’A girl writing a story about a mega-rich protagonist...’

A question couldn’t help but form in Xu Yun’s mind.

Were all those lewd scenes she wrote in her novel from her own imagination, or from personal experience?
