Chapter 44: Chapter 44: Be a Little More Assertive, Could I Even Refuse?

Most people at the company still didn’t know he already owned a sports car.

Otherwise, the reaction would probably be even more over-the-top.

He’d never thought about deliberately hiding the fact that he was rich, nor had he ever planned on deliberately flexing on everyone.

Some flexing was fine, because making the other person miserable was satisfying.

But some flexing was off-limits, because the target might be a reflection of his former self.

Just as everyone was admiring his ”extraordinary masterpiece,” his phone rang.

They only then returned his phone.

Xu Yun saw the familiar name, got up, and walked to the breakroom to answer. ”Hello? What’s up?”

”Xu Yun.”

On the other end of the line, Huang Mengyao asked angrily, ”What’s going on? I received a court summons today.”

”Oh, that.”

Xu Yun said lightly, ”Weren’t you the one who told me to sue you? So I found a lawyer and sued you.”

”...” Huang Mengyao was stunned into silence.

Xu Yun sneered, ”I suggest you start scraping the money together. Not one cent less.”

”In your dreams. I’m not giving you a single cent.”

Huang Mengyao said furiously, ”You think you’re the only one who can find a lawyer? I can find one too. We’ll see about that.”

”Fine, fine, fine. Keep up that tough act!”

Xu Yun said coldly, ”I hope you’re not crying and begging me when the time comes!”

With that, he hung up the phone.

He knew Huang Mengyao’s current situation like the back of his hand.

Her supposed best friend, Wang Qing, would occasionally send him updates about her, trying to curry favor with him.

He had never replied.

According to Wang Qing’s messages, this Zhang Wentao guy Huang Mengyao was with was no good—a total scumbag who had a wife and son at home.

So Huang Mengyao had become the other woman.

Not only that, but the guy had also scammed 100,000 from her by claiming he was short on cash for a business investment and promising high returns, but he actually took the money to gamble.

Wang Qing knew about this too.

But instead of telling Huang Mengyao, she sent a message and told him.

’What a great best friend, stabbing her in the back like that.’

’A woman like that... even if I were interested in her later, I’d only ever use her as a tool. I’d never keep her around.’

So, if he really did win the lawsuit and the court ordered her to return the betrothal gift money, Huang Mengyao probably wouldn’t have the money to pay him back.

That was why he had asked Lawyer Luo that day what would happen if the other party couldn’t pay.

After hanging up, Xu Yun turned around and saw Su Mu standing right behind him.

He jumped, a little exasperated. ”Sister Su, are you part cat or something? You always like to sneak up on people without a sound.”

”You were just too focused on your call.”

Su Mu smiled and asked, ”Still about the lawsuit with your ex-girlfriend?”

”Yeah.”

Xu Yun replied, ”I’ve already filed the suit. The summons has been sent.”

”Don’t worry about it.”

Su Mu reassured him, ”With the capabilities of a top-tier firm, this shouldn’t be a problem. You should be able to get it back.”

”It’s fine. Even if I don’t win this time, I’ll just keep hiring other lawyers to sue her.”

Xu Yun said, ”I’ll make her life a living hell. It’s not like I’m short on cash.”

”...” Su Mu was speechless.

Xu Yun asked, ”Sister Su, you didn’t come looking for me just to ask about my ex, did you?”

”No.”

Su Mu said, ”I just wanted to ask if you’re satisfied with the new female intern today.”

”She’s alright, I guess.”

Xu Yun poured himself a glass of water and said quietly as he drank, ”But these days, you’re the only one I have eyes for, Sister Su. I can’t see the beauty in any other woman.”

”Be serious. We’re in the public breakroom.”

Su Mu glanced around and said, ”As if there isn’t enough gossip about me at the company already.”

”We’re so far away, no one can hear.”

After finishing his water, Xu Yun remembered something important. ”Right, Sister Su, I wanted to ask you something.”

”What is it?”

”The company just landed a big project, right? The one for the Pechoin new product launch event.”

Xu Yun said, ”Manager Li dumped that project on me. He wants me to handle it and present it at the meeting when the boss gets back next week.”

”A huge project like that, and he gave it all to you? Are you kidding me? How could you possibly do it alone!”

Su Mu frowned. ”He’s deliberately trying to mess with you. You can just refuse.”

”I know.”

Xu Yun said, ”What I want to ask is, if I manage to pull off this massive project all by myself, and the results are good, do you think your cousin will give me a promotion?”

”He probably would. I can have a discreet word with him about it, too. Your skills are already quite good.”

Su Mu looked at Xu Yun and said, ”But the question is, can you really pull it off alone? This isn’t a matter of skill, but of time and energy.”

”Don’t you worry about that.”

Xu Yun smiled. ”As long as there’s a chance for a promotion, that’s all that matters.”

”Why are you so keen on getting promoted?”

Su Mu asked curiously, ”It’s not like you need the extra salary.”

”Because if I get promoted, I’ll have my own private office.”

Xu Yun said seriously, ”Then it won’t matter if I go to your office or you come to mine. Once we close the door, things will be much more convenient.”

”...” Su Mu was speechless.

’Other people want promotions for their dreams, for a better future.’

’But him? He wants a promotion just so he can flirt with me more easily.’

’That’s Xu Yun for you, always thinking differently from everyone else.’

’Besides...’

’If he wants to tease me, does it have to be at the office? I have plenty of time for him to mess around with me after work.’

’If he were a bit more assertive, could I really refuse?’

’Hasn’t my attitude in the office these past two days made it obvious enough?’

’He can be so smart, but sometimes he’s dense as a block of wood!’

But as a woman, she would never say something like that out loud. What kind of person would that make her?

’So shameless.’

Although she had already accepted this ambiguous relationship with Xu Yun in her heart, some things were better left unsaid.

Once you say them out loud, the feeling changes.

In truth, she quite liked and enjoyed this unconventional dynamic and relationship with Xu Yun.

They didn’t interfere in each other’s lives, yet they could bring surprise and excitement to one another.

As Xu Yun left the breakroom, he truly had no idea what was going through Su Mu’s mind.

In his eyes, the mature and dignified Manager Su might let him tease her occasionally, but that was just part of their fun, within an acceptable range.

If he wanted to take things a step further, he really didn’t dare to try before he was certain of success.

But he wasn’t willing to deliberately suck up to her, either.

’Be a simp when I was broke, and still be a simp now that I’m rich?’

’No way. Absolutely not.’

Besides, it wasn’t like he was lacking for female company. There was no need to get hung up on Su Mu alone; it would be a thankless effort.

For now, teasing her at the office once in a while was enough to add a little spice to his life.

Some flowers are beautiful, but you don’t necessarily have to pick them.

Just looking at them and smelling them once in a while is nice too.

Of course, if their relationship could naturally progress to a deeper level of ”interaction,” he would be more than willing.
