This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

The Patient on the sick bed was unhappy. ”No, wait a minute. It usually takes half an hour each time I come, so why was it only five minutes today? Now that I’ve paid, are you starting to slack off on me?”

Then the man lifted his head slightly, glancing suspiciously at Zheng Yuancheng and the others. ”You haven’t made some mistake, have you?”

Zheng Yuancheng was old. Coupled with the exhaustion from the entire previous day, he hadn’t rested well the night before either. He’d also been in meetings all This morning, leaving him currently too fatigued to think of an immediate answer.

Meanwhile, the acupuncturist beside them still had no idea what had gone wrong.

Seeing the Patient’s suspicion deepening, Du Heng quickly said, ”It’s my fault.”

Hearing Du Heng admit his mistake, both Zheng Yuancheng and the acupuncturist were taken aback.

The Patient, however, furrowed his brows. ”Your fault? What did you do wrong?”

Du Heng looked quite embarrassed. ”Didn’t I just ask you two questions? When I did, you shifted slightly, and the needles on your back went askew. They need to be reinserted.”

The man let out a long ”Oh,” and said, ”I was worried something serious had happened. Well, if it’s nothing, then just go ahead. I’ll keep lying here.”

Du Heng looked at Zheng Yuancheng.

Zheng Yuancheng frowned slightly, then said to Du Heng, ”Director Du, why don’t you take over?”

”Can I?” Du Heng glanced at the acupuncturist across from him.

The acupuncturist, however, was still completely bewildered.

He still didn’t understand what he had done wrong, and he was even more astonished that this young man before him was the clinic’s new Deputy Director.

Zheng Yuancheng glanced at the acupuncturist. Seeing him still looking dazed, Zheng Yuancheng felt an inexplicable surge of irritation. ”Director Du, please, you do it.”

Only then did Du Heng nod. ”Alright, I’ll do it.”

Du Heng then carefully removed the fine needles from the Patient’s back. He counted them—a total of thirty-two.

****, that’s quite intense.

Using so many needles, wasn’t he afraid of puncturing the Patient’s qi?

Du Heng gently shook his head. He then performed massage on the Patient’s back for two minutes before beginning to insert the needles.

Just before inserting the needles, Du Heng asked the Patient, ”Where do you feel discomfort, and what are your symptoms?”

”I have waist soreness, and after sitting for a long time, my whole back feels bloated.”

”Alright, I understand. Lie still. Let me know if you feel any pain or an electric shock sensation.”

As Du Heng inserted the needles, Zheng Yuancheng narrowed his eyes. The other doctor—the acupuncturist—frowned, then looked at Du Heng in confusion, as if seeking an explanation.

But Du Heng paid him no mind, continuing to insert his needles. This time, he stopped after only six.

After waiting ten seconds and seeing the Patient remained silent, Du Heng prepared to conclude the treatment.

But just then, the Patient spoke up, ”Doctor, did you actually insert any needles?”

”I did. Why? Are you feeling any discomfort?”

”No, not at all. I didn’t feel anything, so I thought you hadn’t inserted them yet.”

”Not feeling anything is correct. Just continue lying down; about five minutes should be enough.”

The man lying down was still not satisfied. ”How can that be right? Young man, if you don’t understand, don’t spout nonsense. I was already being generous letting you practice on me.

”Every time I come for Acupuncture, when the needles go in, I feel that slight electric tingle. The doctor even said it’s the release of Bioelectricity.

”Hurry up. If you can’t do it right, then get someone else!”

Du Heng looked at Zheng Yuancheng once more.

He couldn’t answer this question.

The ideal sensation during Acupuncture is no sensation at all. As long as the needles are accurately placed on the acupoints, the body shouldn’t experience other feelings. Only during the adjustment phase might a sensation of soreness or distension occur.

Once that sensation of soreness or distension appears, it signifies the treatment is nearing completion.

If an electric shock is felt during Acupuncture, it invariably means a nerve has been struck.

If pain is felt, the needle was definitely inserted incorrectly, into the Muscle.

Moreover, and most importantly, why use acupuncture? What is the characteristic of Acupuncture treatment?

Except for some chronic conditions requiring extended recovery, such as Paralysis and hemiplegia—which necessitate longer Acupuncture treatment periods—other ailments are treated with acupuncture for one primary purpose: speed.

Acupuncture treatment is chosen for its potential to yield immediate results.

For this Patient, using so many needles on his waist, and who knows how many times it had been done, would inevitably aggravate his waist soreness. He might even be developing sciatic nerve pain by now.

Now, with this issue, how was Du Heng supposed to answer?

Should he say that the previous doctor’s technique was wrong and the treatment process flawed?

If he said that, it would unequivocally be a major medical accident.

Never mind the acupuncturist; even Clinic Director Zheng Yuancheng would be held responsible.

He was a newly appointed Deputy Director, with no assignments yet, his seat barely warm. If he directly exposed such a huge scandal, could he still hope to get gilded here?

If it truly came to that, forget about gaining experience here; he’d likely find no place for himself anywhere else.

But if he didn’t speak up, then according to the Patient, he was a fraud. And the Patient himself would continue headlong down the wrong path of treatment.

He might even end up with Paralysis one day.

So, what now?

It was up to the one in charge, Zheng Yuancheng, to say something.

Zheng Yuancheng’s expression changed rapidly. After a few shifts, he suddenly smiled and said, ”My dear Patient, are you perhaps underestimating our Doctor Du’s skills?”

This time, the Patient didn’t dare to move. He remained lying obediently on the sick bed and said in a low, muffled voice, ”Did I say something wrong?”
