This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Didn’t she know before?

She must have known. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have waited three days after returning to consider visiting her parents today.

Zhang Sumei had mentioned it, and now this young man, Kang Zhirong, had also brought it up. This made Wu Shengnan ponder it further.

Although visiting her parents today was at their strong insistence, and something she herself had longed to do, the question remained: would her sister-in-law be willing?

If... if something unfortunate were to happen, especially to her... Wu Shengnan lowered her head and glanced at the baby in her arms.

After a long moment, Wu Shengnan sighed. ”Forget it, let’s not go to my dad’s. We’ll go to my grandfather’s instead. I’ll give you the address.”

Kang Zhirong nodded and drove towards the address Wu Shengnan provided.

Wu Shengnan gazed at the familiar scenery outside the car window, her earlier happiness replaced by silence.

When tradition doesn’t benefit oneself and feels like a constraint, many people scoff at it, deeming it ignorant or pretentious. But once it affects them personally, they invariably become extremely cautious.

For instance, she didn’t know if her sister-in-law would be welcoming. But the thought of it happening to her, of little Xuanxuan crying inconsolably through the night, and of her own milk supply drying up, leaving her unable to breastfeed her daughter—that possibility made her decisively choose to follow tradition.

Even though she suspected it was most likely nonsense, a trick of her own mind, she still didn’t want to defy it.

Soon, Kang Zhirong dropped Wu Shengnan off at her destination.

As Wu Shengnan got out of the car holding little Xuanxuan, Kang Zhirong proactively grabbed the child’s belongings and followed her, intending to help carry them upstairs.

”Rong, let me carry that. Look, your hands are all red from the strain.” Suddenly, a delicate, saccharine voice sounded from behind Wu Shengnan, sending shivers down her spine and raising goose bumps all over her skin.

She paused for a moment, then it hit her. Damn, isn’t this the legendary ’clip voice’ they talk about?

Wu Shengnan couldn’t help but turn her head to look.

Just then, Kang Zhirong’s assistant, who had also gotten out of the car, reached for the bag Kang Zhirong was holding—the one containing diapers, milk powder, and baby bottles.

How should I put this...

She was ostensibly reaching for the bag, but the overly familiar, almost cloying way she leaned in made Wu Shengnan distinctly uncomfortable.

She was married, and around Du Heng, she sometimes acted quite girlish, engaging in little flirtatious gestures.

But such a brazenly cloying gesture? She could never bring herself to do something like that, especially not in public.

Kang Zhirong initially seemed to be enjoying the attention, but when he suddenly saw Wu Shengnan turn and look at him, his face instantly flushed red.

He gently pushed the woman away and, looking slightly embarrassed, said to his glamorous assistant, ”Don’t make such a fuss. It’s just a couple of diapers. How heavy can they be?”

”Alright, just wait for me downstairs. I’ll come down after I see Sister-in-law upstairs.”

With that, he gave Wu Shengnan an awkward smile.

Wu Shengnan glanced at the assistant again, then gave a small laugh and, feigning nonchalance, headed upstairs.

Once inside the elevator, Wu Shengnan suddenly asked, ”Zhirong, I heard from Du you’re getting married soon?”

Kang Zhirong’s face lit up with a happy smile. ”Yes, we’re planning to get married at the end of the year.”

”Speaking of which, I really have to thank Du. If he hadn’t given me this job with such a high salary, my girlfriend’s family wouldn’t have approved.”

Wu Shengnan chuckled. ”Getting paid for your work is only natural.”

”By the way, how long have you two been dating?”

Kang Zhirong took a deep breath. ”We started dating right when we began university. It’s been six years now.”

”Wow, that’s a long time. Du and I were married less than two years after we met.” Wu Shengnan laughed suddenly, amused by her own thought. ”How are your parents back home?”

”They’re doing alright. Du has been paying me well these past few months, so I can contribute a bit more to the family.”

”That’s good.” The elevator doors opened, and Wu Shengnan stepped out first. ”So, how does your girlfriend treat your parents?”

”She’s great with them,” Kang Zhirong said with a smile. ”She met my parents when we graduated, and she didn’t look down on them for being from the village. For the past two years, while we’ve been working, she’s always come back with me to visit them.”

By this time, Wu Shengnan had rung the doorbell of her grandfather’s apartment, and the familiar nanny opened the door.

”She sounds like a wonderful girl. You must cherish her.”

”I definitely will.”

”Du mentioned he’s planning a big wedding gift for you. Keep up the good work.”

”Thank you, Du. And thank you, Sister-in-law,” Kang Zhirong said with genuine gratitude.

”Don’t be so formal. My only worry is that you might not like the gift,” Wu Shengnan chuckled. ”Why don’t you come in for a bit? Come in and sit down.”

Kang Zhirong quickly declined, handing all the baby supplies he was carrying to the nanny. ”I shouldn’t go in.”

”By the way, Sister-in-law, will you be going home tonight, or are you staying here?”

Wu Shengnan thought for a moment. ”I’ll chat with my grandfather for a while, then head home tonight.”

”Alright then, Sister-in-law. I’ll wait for you downstairs. Just call me when you’re coming down, and I’ll drive you home.”

”Oh, please don’t. I’m not sure when I’ll be leaving. You shouldn’t wait. I can just grab a taxi when I’m ready to go home.”
