This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Director Su was walking quickly, clearly anxious.

Upon hearing Du Heng’s question, he didn’t slow his pace and answered while walking, ”The woman in childbirth is a type 2 diabetes patient. Labor started two weeks earlier than her due date, quite unexpectedly.”

Preterm birth?

Why is it another preterm birth?

But that’s not the crucial part.

”Diabetes? Is her blood sugar high? Is the fetus small, or is it macrosomia?” Du Heng frowned as he processed the information.

Diabetes is troublesome, but it can be controlled and treated. However, for a pregnant woman with diabetes, ”troublesome” didn’t even begin to describe the situation.

Firstly, during pregnancy, diabetic women are at a much higher risk of preterm birth, having a low birth weight infant, difficult labor, macrosomia, and congenital malformations compared to non-diabetic pregnant women.

Another issue is postpartum recovery. If a cesarean section is performed, the incision healing can be agonizingly slow. Of course, if it’s a smooth delivery but an episiotomy is required, that’s equally problematic.

Upon hearing Du Heng’s questions, Director Su knew he was knowledgeable and replied with some frustration, ”The fetus’s weight is normal, but it has been in an abnormal position.

However, there are still two weeks left. With more activity, it might have been possible for the fetus to adjust its position.

But who could have guessed that labor would start so suddenly, and the woman in childbirth’s blood sugar levels would also skyrocket?”

Director Su quickly gained access to the delivery room and began a series of pre-delivery procedures. ”Even with an abnormal fetal position,” he muttered, ”we could still manage a C-section if necessary.

But, as ill luck would have it, the woman in childbirth’s blood sugar is off the charts now. Who would dare operate? That would be risking her life!”

Du Heng sighed inwardly. For a woman in childbirth’s blood sugar to skyrocket before delivery was a life-threatening situation for her, the fetus, and the medical team.

”Can’t medication be used?”

”It has been, but her blood sugar hasn’t dropped much.”

Du Heng fell silent. He didn’t press further about increasing the dosage.

Under Director Su’s guidance, they quickly arrived at a delivery room after a few turns.

In this delivery room, Du Heng also saw Dr. Zhang, the one who had brought Wu Shengnan in earlier.

At this moment, everyone in the room was discussing in low voices, their expressions terribly grim.

Du Heng’s expression wasn’t much better.

The woman in childbirth was very large, not just due to her pregnant belly, but simply obese. A quick visual estimate suggested she was a little over 160 cm tall and weighed at least 100 kg.

With this weight and body type, were they really planning to perform a cesarean section?

Were their surgical skills that strong?

Du Heng glanced at Director Su from the corner of his eye.

Director Su was now too preoccupied to notice Du Heng. He paid no heed to the woman in childbirth’s moans, strode over to her, and began to examine her condition. The more he checked, the grimmer his expression became.

”What’s the current situation?” Director Su asked quickly.

”We’ve tried everything we can think of, but her blood sugar just won’t come down,” a female doctor replied swiftly.

”Is there any chance of a smooth delivery?”

”No.” The female doctor answered without a hint of hesitation. ”Although her cervix is fully dilated, the fetus is in a transverse position, so...”

There was no need for her to finish; everyone understood the implications.

Director Su’s face contorted slightly, but he did his best to control his bad temper. ”Don’t you understand the dangers of gestational diabetes? Didn’t you explain it clearly to the woman in childbirth and her family?”

The female doctor who had spoken sighed. ”We did. We explained it and repeatedly stressed it. I called the patient and her family every few days to check on her condition throughout the pregnancy, and everything was fine.”

”Then...” Director Su pointed at the woman in childbirth, his face cold. ”What is this now?”

The female doctor’s expression also darkened. As she spoke, Du Heng sensed she was grinding her teeth. ”The woman in childbirth started having regular contractions three days ago and was admitted to the hospital after she started bleeding.”

Upon hearing this, Director Su immediately turned his cold gaze to the female doctor. ”She’s been hospitalized for three days?”

Du Heng also looked at the female doctor.

If her blood sugar rose during hospitalization, then the attending doctor and nurses would bear undeniable responsibility.

But seeing the female doctor grinding her back molars, Du Heng suspected it might have little to do with the medical team.

Indeed, as soon as Director Su finished speaking, the woman lifted her head, her voice tinged with anger as she stared at him. ”Everything was proceeding normally. But since she was still far from her due date, we wanted her to hold on for a few more days, which would be better for the fetus’s development.

”When she couldn’t endure it any longer, I was prepared to perform a cesarean section. It would be difficult, yes, but not impossible.”

As she said this, the female doctor exuded a degree of confidence, but the anger in her eyes intensified. ”However, because the contractions have been so intense these past few days, she hasn’t been eating properly.

”By early morning, when she couldn’t bear the pain any longer and was about to be sent to the delivery room, her mother-in-law and her own mother, worried that she hadn’t eaten and would lack strength, gave her several pieces of chocolate and a functional drink.”

Director Su stiffened slightly, and Du Heng’s eyes widened.

For a C-section, what’s the use of her keeping up her strength?

Director Su took a deep breath. ”Didn’t you explain things clearly to them?”

”I did. I explained it very clearly.” The female doctor was struggling to suppress her fury.

Director Su closed his eyes gently. A diabetic eating chocolate and drinking functional drinks... He sighed. The doctor had done everything she could. The rest was up to fate.
