This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

”This name is good.”

Wu Shengnan immediately burst into a cheerful smile, her joy so great her mouth stretched wide in a grin.

However, her happiness didn’t last more than a few seconds before she furrowed her brow. ”Isn’t this name a bit too common? I remember many people have names with ’Xuan’ in them. The repetition rate seems a bit too high.”

”Then how about Wangyou? It’s simple, straightforward, and retains the symbolism,” Du Heng suggested.

”Wangyou... I guess that works.” Wu Shengnan pursed her lips, reluctantly agreeing.

It wasn’t that she disliked the name, just that she felt there had to be a better one. She wanted to give her daughter a name that was beautiful, unique, and pleasant-sounding. But she herself lacked the talent for choosing names; otherwise, she wouldn’t have come up with something like Zichen. Still, she wasn’t one of those eccentric parents who gave their baby a ridiculously punny name.

Just then, Sir Wu spoke. ”Day lilies are also called ’forget worries grass,’ and they carry these beautiful meanings too. But Xiao Heng, it seems you haven’t told the full story, have you?”

Du Heng was taken aback, not fully grasping what Sir Wu meant.

Sir Wu sat upright, looking at Du Heng seriously. ”Day lilies are also known by the name ’Good-for-Boys Grass.’ This name symbolizes the blessing of bearing sons, leading to many children and much happiness. In ancient times, pregnant women would wear accessories styled after day lilies. For instance, day lilies paired with longevity stones symbolized the ’wish for a male child and longevity,’ and day lilies paired with pomegranates symbolized the ’wish for many male children.’”

This symbolism was news to Du Heng; he hadn’t known day lilies carried such implications.

Sir Wu coughed lightly. ”Xiao Heng, society is different now; boys and girls are considered the same. You mustn’t treat her differently just because she’s a girl or harbor any dissatisfaction.”

At Sir Wu’s words, Du Heng was instantly jolted. No wonder he looked so serious! It turned out Sir Wu was worried I favored boys over girls. Who would have thought naming a child could lead to such a misunderstanding?

Just then, his sister-in-law, Zhang Sumei, eyes wide, began to question Du Heng. ”Xiao Heng, you don’t really think that way, do you? Let me tell you, boys and girls are equal in our family! If you truly have such thoughts, I’ll call your brother right now and have him set you straight!”

As Sir Wu and his sister-in-law spoke one after another, they made it sound as if Du Heng truly felt that way, causing Wu Shengnan, who was lying in bed, to look aggrieved.

This misunderstanding is huge! Du Heng quickly explained, ”I really didn’t mean that at all! I just thought the symbolism of the day lily was good, and Nannan went through so much giving birth, so I chose that name. If you all feel this name is inappropriate, then let’s call her Du Xuelan. That’s similar to Tingting’s name. That should be fine, right?”

Du Heng’s flustered explanation convinced everyone, and they stopped relentlessly lecturing him.

Wu Shengnan’s expression softened. After settling back down in bed, she pouted and said, ”Let’s just go with Wangyou. Xuelan is too common.”

Du Heng hurriedly nodded. ”Alright, alright, you have the final say.”

And just like that, Du Heng avoided being branded a male chauvinist. However, when he touched his forehead, he found a layer of cold sweat. He sighed; it seemed catching that chill earlier had really weakened him.

Subsequently, seeing everyone had resumed their cheerful conversation, Du Heng wanted to hold his baby girl.

He was no longer as nervous and lost as he had been in the early morning. He had completely adjusted his mindset, ready to cuddle his little daughter.

However, just as he was eagerly reaching out to hold his daughter, his sister-in-law, Zhang Sumei, once again played the role of gatekeeper, directly blocking him from the baby. ”You’re a grown man! How can you be so thoughtless?”

Du Heng’s outstretched arms froze in midair. He looked at his sister-in-law, bewildered, and said with a wry smile, ”What did I do wrong now? I just want to hold my daughter.”

”Hold her? You should be glad we even let you in for a look!” Zhang Sumei resolutely kept Du Heng away from the baby. ”Look at you! You have a cold, and we don’t even know if you’re over it. You’re all sweaty now; who knows what germs are on your clothes. If you hold the baby like this, it’s not just about her smelling you, it’s not safe!”

Du Heng was exasperated. ”Sister-in-law, I just caught a chill. It’s not contagious.”

”No more excuses! Go home, take a bath, change your clothes, and then you can hold her. Otherwise, it’s out of the question.” Zhang Sumei’s stance was exceptionally firm.

Her concern for the little baby completely surpassed that of Du Heng and his wife for their own child.

”Right, you’ve slept all day. Sir Wu and your brother-in-law have also been here for half the day. You should quickly take them home to rest.” Zhang Sumei, now in full matriarch mode, was determined to correct Du Heng’s inconsiderate behavior.

Hearing Zhang Sumei’s words, Du Heng immediately realized his oversight. He then urged Sir Wu and his elder brother-in-law (Wu Shengnan’s brother) to head home first. After they had rested, they could come back to see Wu Shengnan and the baby.

Sir Wu was indeed starting to feel fatigued, so he agreed to Du Heng’s suggestion without much hesitation.

But Du Heng still couldn’t hold his child before leaving. After hugging and kissing his wife, he prepared to depart with his father-in-law and elder brother-in-law.

Just as he turned to go, Zhang Sumei stopped him again. ”Don’t leave empty-handed.”

Saying this, she pointed to a pile of gifts in the corner. ”These are from your colleagues, and Nannan’s teachers and classmates. Pick some out to take to your colleagues.”
