This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Sun Jiaxiang’s rage startled everyone present.

Some shivered like frightened quails, shrinking their heads and bowing deeply, almost stuffing their heads into their chest cavities.

Others hurriedly stood up to appease Sun Jiaxiang. ”Sir Sun, don’t be angry. Sir Li didn’t mean it.”

But Sun Jiaxiang didn’t appreciate it. He glared at the speaker and spat again, ”He meant it! Just listen to what this old boy has been saying. He said I’m doing something without a bottom line.”

Sun Jiaxiang seemed genuinely furious. His chest heaved for a few moments, and then he scanned the room. ”What’s a bottomless act? It’s something that breaks principles.

I’m a Party member, a Party member for seventy years.

Today, you’d better make it clear. Otherwise, this is slander against an old Party member.”

Sun Jiaxiang spoke with great indignation, but Sir Li opposite him simply gave a faint smile. ”Alright, then I’ll have a good talk with you.”

”Go on, speak.” Sun Jiaxiang suddenly sat down, waiting for Sir Li to continue.

Sir Li pushed a thick stack of materials forward on the table. ”A thirty-year-old young man, with shallow experience and a rash way of doing things—how can such an important matter be entrusted to him? Who would feel at ease with him in charge?”

Sun Jiaxiang sneered. ”So, to get things done, one has to live long, is that it? You’ve certainly lived long, like a turtle, but you’re not up to the task. And what’s wrong with being young? He might be young, but he’s reached this point through solid work and steady steps.

Unlike some people who spend their whole lives sucking up and licking boots. It doesn’t matter if they live as long as a turtle; they’ll still be useless bootlickers.”

These words seemed to hit Sir Li’s sore spot, and he could no longer maintain his calm demeanor. He shot up from his seat. ”Sir Sun, you are a respected elder! Using such foul language and making insinuations—isn’t that beneath your status?”

At this, Sun Jiaxiang merely smiled faintly. ”Oh, Sir Li, don’t get so worked up. You’re not much younger than me, already in your eighties. I certainly couldn’t be talking about you. Please, stop trying to insert yourself into this, will you?

I’m just making an analogy. You understand analogies, don’t you?”

Understand? Or not understand?

In any case, everyone present knew whom this Sir Sun was referring to. And Sir Li, the man opposite him, knew it too.

”You...”

”You what? Hurry up and continue. What is this ’bottomless’ thing I’ve supposedly done?”

Sir Li gasped for breath a few times. After calming himself slightly, he stared grimly at Sun Jiaxiang and said, ”Fine. Let’s not talk about his youth. Let’s talk about his qualifications.

He’s a doctoral student, and from Jinzhou at that—such a poor and remote backwater. Are there any good teachers there?

Without guidance from a renowned teacher, how can anyone trust his abilities?

He has no experience studying abroad, no experience with international academic exchanges. Who can trust his abilities?

You can’t just recommend such a person for inclusion simply because he’s a teacher at your school.

A person like that simply doesn’t possess the capabilities to inspire confidence.”

Sun Jiaxiang waited for Sir Li to finish, and after a pause of three or four seconds, he asked softly, ”Are you done?”

”I haven’t finished. But regarding the doubts I just raised, what do you have to say?”

”Don’t adopt such a flustered and exasperated expression; it’s demeaning.” Sun Jiaxiang had completely turned the tables on Sir Li. Not only did he maintain an air of calm indifference, but he also added a mocking remark.

Sun Jiaxiang leaned back fully against his chair. ”When one has knelt for too long, one should stand up and walk around. Otherwise, the joints stiffen, and one might find oneself permanently kneeling. Expert Li, wouldn’t you agree?”

Sir Li glared angrily at Sun Jiaxiang, unable to respond to this remark.

Sun Jiaxiang ignored his anger, chuckled, and continued, ”International academic exchange? Who is he supposed to exchange with? Exchange what?

Is there anyone abroad who can exchange ideas about traditional Chinese medicine with him? Are they even qualified to discuss traditional Chinese medicine?”

This barrage of questions left Sir Li speechless, able to do nothing but stare wide-eyed, like a toad.

But Sun Jiaxiang wasn’t finished. He paused for a breath and then continued, ”As for studying abroad? Which country should he go to? Study what? How to use machines to perform examinations?

”What a joke! He’s a genuine TCM doctor. He uses Inspection, Auscultation, Inquiry, and Palpation for syndrome differentiation and traditional Chinese medicine compound prescriptions for treatment. Tell me, which country could he study in that would offer him more than he can learn right here in our own country?

”Or are you suggesting that just by going abroad to find some ’patron,’ his skills will improve? That people will suddenly trust his abilities?”

Sun Jiaxiang’s face was etched with disdain. ”Excuse me, but we are not like certain individuals who seem addicted to finding foreign ’patrons.’ They are not qualified to have us go abroad to learn about traditional Chinese medicine from them.”

As soon as Sun Jiaxiang finished speaking, some onlookers couldn’t help but snicker.

For a student of traditional Chinese medicine to go abroad to study pharmacology might be understandable. But for someone in clinical studies to go abroad for it? That would be utterly preposterous.

Yet, some people have leveraged this very thing as capital, endlessly flaunting it, which is truly dismaying. These shameless individuals have influential teachers with high status and qualifications, so no one has dared to expose this farce until now.

Now, hearing Sir Sun so mercilessly expose the truth with such sharp words, everyone present felt an immense sense of satisfaction.
