This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Upon hearing the sneers, Sun Jiaxiang remained calm and composed. He waited for the noise to subside before continuing, ”Now, let’s discuss the issue of mentorship by a renowned teacher.

Someone might be an academician, a National Medical Master, a doctoral supervisor, and a top expert in the hospital charging over a hundred for a registration fee. Can such a person be considered a renowned teacher?

However, his students, aside from sycophancy, fawning over foreign backers, and misappropriating the research achievements of students, seem to have no major accomplishments.

As a teacher, he is constantly reported by his students. As a doctor, he faces daily complaints from patients.”

At this, everyone present once again revealed knowing, yet discreet, smiles, all looking towards Sir Li, whose face was ashen with anger.

But Sun Jiaxiang merely smiled faintly and summarized softly, ”Thus, being a renowned teacher is not a prerequisite for being a skilled doctor or possessing true ability.

Furthermore, some individuals who now appear to hold high positions seem to have come from unorthodox backgrounds themselves, with no guidance from any renowned teachers, correct?”

There’s a saying: ’You can hit a man, but not in the face; you can curse a man, but don’t expose his deepest flaws.’ This is a traditional virtue of the Chinese nation.

However, when all pretenses are dropped, failing to strike at their pride or expose those flaws offers no satisfaction.

Especially with shameless individuals; if you maintain your virtue, they will see it as weakness and walk all over you.

That’s what Sun Jiaxiang thought.

But these words made Sir Li, who was opposite him, flush red to the tips of his ears, his neck swelling with anger.

Seeing Sir Li about to gasp for breath, someone beside him couldn’t bear it any longer. He quickly stood up and patted Sir Li’s back, saying, ”Sir Li, please calm down. Sir Sun is merely using an analogy; there’s no other meaning intended.”

No other meaning? he thought. If he hadn’t said that, it might have been tolerable, but now Sir Li’s face was redder than a monkey’s backside! How could he not know whom Sun Jiaxiang was referring to?

Cursing a bald man in front of a monk—is that an analogy?

Sir Li flung his arm out, pushing aside the person who had tried to help. Ungrateful, he then shot the man an angry glare.

The helper’s temper flared too, and he plopped back into his seat. Someone like him deserves whatever happens to him, **** it!

But Sir Li paid no heed. He stubbornly craned his neck and resumed the debate with Sun Jiaxiang, ”Fine, fine, fine! Sir Sun, you’re getting old, and your thinking is rigid. We’ll drop that topic. But this young man you’re recommending is merely a Deputy Director, with nothing truly impressive to his name.

For this reason alone, he is not qualified to join the Health Group and undertake such a critical task.”

At this, Sun Jiaxiang sighed softly. ”Old Li, you are profoundly hypocritical. You’re clearly furious enough to want to swallow me whole, chew me up, and gulp me down, yet you feign respect, addressing me as ’Sir Sun’ repeatedly. Aren’t you exhausted by it?

And yes, I was talking about you just now. I simply cannot stand how you profit from traditional Chinese medicine while simultaneously undermining it, all the while posturing as an expert and swaggering about.

Just tell me, over the years, how many promising young talents have you destroyed? How many capable young individuals have you slandered and suppressed?

Shameful!”

Sun Jiaxiang uttered these words without any dramatic flourish, his tone utterly flat as he ripped away the final shred of pretense among them.

”At first, I thought you were merely servile and narrow-minded. I didn’t realize your heart was blind as well.” Sun Jiaxiang pointed to the thick stack of documents before Sir Li. ”Over forty pages of material here. If I showed this to a dog, even the dog wouldn’t dare utter such nonsense, would it?

’Nothing impressive to show?’ If you had an ounce of perception left, if you could still recognize even two written characters, you wouldn’t utter words that so disgrace your ancestors.

He has led two national-level projects and one provincial-level project. He won a Second Prize of Scientific and Technological Progress at the provincial level, holds two patents that benefit patients, and has published six papers in core journals. You call this ’nothing impressive to show’?

Among all your students, regardless of age, if any single one of them has accomplished even half of this, I will kowtow and apologize to you here and now. Any takers?”

Sir Li remained silent, his Adam’s apple bobbing continuously.

Sun Jiaxiang’s eyes glinted with disdain, the sneer on his lips more pronounced. ”The projects he has managed have cured over 5,000 patients with paralysis or hemiplegia. He has treated nearly 500 children with cerebral palsy, and more than a dozen patients with various tumors—all previously pronounced incurable. And you say he isn’t skilled?”

Two choked sounds, ’GAK... GAK...’ escaped Sir Li’s throat.

However, Sun Jiaxiang, thoroughly incensed, seemed to have no intention of sparing Sir Li any dignity and continued, ”You can recommend your own ignorant and incompetent students. Why can’t I recommend a junior colleague who possesses genuine talent and knowledge?

Do you imagine the Health Group is your family’s private reserve? A place where anyone you fancy can come to get gilded at will?”

Seeing Sir Li struggling for breath, Sun Jiaxiang snorted contemptuously. ”And regarding the Deputy Director issue you raised—do you assume everyone is like you, inclined to suppress capable young individuals?

As far as I know, Good Friend Hospital has already prepared a Director position for him. They’ve also submitted his application for exceptional promotion to a senior professional title, which is just awaiting formal approval at a meeting.

Furthermore, he has already been granted a professorship at the Capital University of Traditional Chinese Medicine this year.

Simultaneously, I am preparing to recommend him as Deputy Director of both the Capital Acupuncture Research Institute and the Capital Traditional Chinese Medicine Health Research Institute. I have already secured the agreement of both institutes and the municipal authorities. Now, all that’s needed is to discuss it with him personally.

Now, do you still believe his status is insufficient?”

This revelation stunned not only Sir Li, but also the surrounding curious onlookers, who were equally taken aback by Sun Jiaxiang’s words.

Good heavens! This old man has been unshakeable for decades, never directly or indirectly recommending anyone. Now, when he finally makes a move, it’s earth-shattering! Not only recommending someone but personally paving their path—and it’s an expressway! Could this young man be his great-grandson? Or perhaps... an illegitimate son? Otherwise, such fervent dedication from the old man just doesn’t add up.

Sir Li’s breath caught in his throat instantly. He desperately clutched at his neck, trying to soothe it, but this time, no one stepped forward to help.

By the time he finally caught his breath, Sun Jiaxiang remarked leisurely, ”If a person’s eyes go blind, they might merely face some inconvenience in life.

But if their heart is rotten, they are no different from a maggot. Even if such a maggot spins a cocoon, upon emerging, it will be a fly or a moth. Dreaming of becoming a butterfly? Utterly delusional.”

Having finished, Sun Jiaxiang glanced around the office and asked, ”Does anyone still disagree?”

The room was silent. Some squinted indifferently, others followed Sun Jiaxiang’s gaze as it swept the room, and a few deliberately avoided eye contact.

Noting this, Sun Jiaxiang fixed his gaze on the middle-aged man seated in the center.

The man, noticing the attention, chuckled. ”The young man appears to be on a solid path. He’s a Party member and has served as a local cadre, so his ideological standing should be sound. In that case, I’ll have to trouble Sir Sun to contact him. My side is quite eager.”

Sun Jiaxiang also chuckled softly. ”Very well. I’ll ask for the young man’s opinion as soon as I return.”

With that, ignoring Sir Li who was still standing there panting, Sun Jiaxiang rose and began to leave. After a couple of steps, he paused, turned back, and said, ”Old Li, you’re over eighty. You should be focusing on what an elder of your years ought to be doing.

If that proves too difficult, perhaps go home and dote on your great-grandchildren.”

Sun Jiaxiang delivered this last remark with a smile, then walked out without a backward glance.

Just as he turned to leave, he heard someone exclaim urgently from behind, ”Sir Li, what’s wrong? Quickly, call 120!”

Sun Jiaxiang didn’t even turn his head, continuing straight out the door and brushing past a few young people who were entering.

Then, another old man followed him out. ”Sir Sun, will Sir Li be all right?”

Sun Jiaxiang chuckled. ”He’s just faking it. What could possibly be wrong? If he had truly fainted, he’d be on the floor, not still in his chair.”

The old man beside him also chuckled. ”Still, Sir Sun, your approach today was so... pointed. Perhaps it wasn’t the best course of action?”
