This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Huang Jufu was stunned at first, then he asked, clearly puzzled, ”Doctor Du, is there a difference?”

Du Heng nodded affirmatively. ”Not only is there a difference, but the difference is quite significant. Can you be sure that your daughter’s blindness and deafness occurred after her dysentery?”

”I’m very certain of that,” Huang Jufu replied with conviction. ”In the past, my daughter was very sharp. I’ve been working here in the Capital, and when we video chat at night, she would interact well with me. Whenever I made a playful expression or a sound, she would giggle.”

Du Heng then asked, ”So, which came first—blindness or deafness?”

This question caught Huang Jufu off guard.

After thinking for a good while, he said, ”It should be the blindness that came first.”

Upon hearing this, Du Heng frowned. This father isn’t even sure about the issue himself.

Just then, the waiter began serving the food. Du Heng didn’t press the issue further; instead, he invited Huang Jufu to start eating.

Huang Jufu, however, was preoccupied by Du Heng’s questions. He silently tried to recall everything that had happened with his daughter from the onset of her illness, but he still couldn’t determine if her hearing loss had occurred before or after the blindness.

He couldn’t even tell if it was the medicine for her eyes that had caused her to lose her hearing.

Seeing this, Du Heng knew there was no point in pressing further and gradually changed the subject. They continued to chat while eating.

As they were about to part ways, Du Heng hesitated for a moment, then said again, ”Xiao Huang, I work in the Traditional Chinese Medicine Internal Medicine Department. If you need anything, just come find me. We’re fellow townsmen, making our way out here, so please don’t stand on ceremony.”

Huang Jufu thanked him gratefully.

However, Du Heng could see from Xiao Huang’s expression that the young man was stubborn and wouldn’t easily ask for help. He’s a stubborn one.

After getting Huang Jufu’s contact information, the two returned to the hospital and parted ways, each to attend to their own matters.

However, Du Heng still had one very important thing to do: find Zheng Yuancheng to handle the onboarding procedures for the Acupuncture Research Institute.

Initially, Du Heng thought this ”Acupuncture Research Institute” was directly managed by the Traditional Chinese Medicine Administration Bureau, but after some inquiries, he realized he’d overthought it. I guess I jumped to conclusions.

This Acupuncture Research Institute was actually a subsidiary of the Capital University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and was co-managed with the Municipal Government.

Due to significant investment from the Municipal Government, the decent reputation of the Capital University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the presence of leading figures like Zheng Yuancheng, the Institute possessed considerable influence and a respectable standing in the field.

Moreover, this institution wasn’t just some closed-off, insular place; it was a comprehensive research body integrating scientific research, teaching, and medical treatment.

After quickly finishing his tasks at the hospital, Du Heng hurried to the Research Institute and found Zheng Yuancheng.

Zheng Yuancheng had just returned from the First Medical Center around noon, and he still looked a bit out of sorts, his spirits not particularly high.

However, when he saw Du Heng, the old man still showed great pleasure. ”Xiao Du, excellent work. Yesterday’s confrontation, you truly established yourself and didn’t bring any discredit to Sir Sun.”

Du Heng replied politely, ”Thank you to all the seniors for the opportunity and for your trust. If it weren’t for both you, Sir Zheng, and Sir Sun, arguing so strongly on my behalf yesterday, I would never have had such an opportunity.”

Zheng Yuancheng looked at Du Heng with a smile, increasingly convinced of Sun Jiaxiang’s sharp judgment. Honestly, to let a young man just past thirty join the Health Group, and even take the lead on a case as the attending Physician—that kind of foresight and decisiveness isn’t something everyone possesses.

”Alright, we’re all colleagues here; let’s dispense with such flattery in the future,” Zheng Yuancheng said with a chuckle. Then, his expression turned a bit more serious. ”Let’s discuss your work situation.”

Du Heng’s expression also turned serious. He nodded gently, waiting for Zheng Yuancheng to continue.

Zheng Yuancheng leaned back slightly and said slowly, ”Xiao Du, please don’t be offended by what I’m about to say. Because this was a sudden promotion for you, it’s a bit difficult to arrange your duties immediately. For now, you’ll just have a nominal role. Once I’ve streamlined things on my end, I’ll assign you specific tasks. How does that sound?”

Du Heng nodded in agreement immediately.

Sun Jiaxiang had given him a heads-up about this, so he was mentally prepared. Just as Sir Sun said.

Besides, his current workload was already immense. If actual duties were assigned to him now, he wasn’t sure if he could keep up, energy-wise, and he probably wouldn’t have the time to juggle everything.

Seeing Du Heng agree so readily, Zheng Yuancheng’s smile returned. ”Did you bring the documents and materials I asked for?”

”Yes, I did.” Du Heng took out the entry materials he had prepared in advance from his bag.

Zheng Yuancheng took them and looked through them one by one. Finding no issues, he called his assistant over, handed him the documents, and asked him to handle Du Heng’s onboarding procedures.

Afterward, Zheng Yuancheng looked at Du Heng and said, ”Although I can’t assign you specific work yet, you still need to get acquainted with things here. If you have some time, I can show you around the Research Institute. You can familiarize yourself with it, and it’ll be a good opportunity for me to introduce you to everyone.”
