This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

”Xiao Heng, you should go in and take a look. I’m getting more and more worried.” Zhang Sumei couldn’t stand it any longer. She quickly stood up and grabbed Du Heng’s arm. At this moment, Du Heng could feel his sister-in-law’s hand trembling slightly.

Du Heng took a deep breath, walked to the side, and called the Director of the Obstetrics Department. At first, he had thought that since there was no immediate danger, he wouldn’t bother the Director of the Obstetrics Department so late at night. But now, he couldn’t bear it any longer; he didn’t want to endure this kind of ’torment.’ The Director of the Obstetrics Department, like him, kept his phone on twenty-four hours a day, ready to come whenever called. What surprised Du Heng even more was that when he called, the Director was already on his way to the hospital.

However, that wasn’t Du Heng’s main concern; he just wanted to get into the delivery room. Of course, Du Heng had enough influence for that. Moreover, the Obstetrics Department of Good Friend Hospital, whose full name was ’Traditional Chinese Medicine Obstetrics,’ was quite familiar with him.

In no time, under the guidance of the only on-duty doctor stationed outside the Obstetrics Department, Du Heng successfully entered the delivery room and found Wu Shengnan.

He was, however, a bit late!

Wu Shengnan had already given birth and was now sleeping soundly on the delivery bed. Beside her, two nurses were cleaning the newborn baby. Although there were no doctors or midwives by Wu Shengnan’s side, it didn’t matter anymore.

”Director Du, you’re so anxious! We haven’t even finished tidying up yet,” the nurse wrapping the baby joked when she saw Du Heng walk in. They didn’t seem surprised at all that Du Heng could enter the delivery room.

Watching Du Heng carefully observe Wu Shengnan, the nurse smiled and carried the child over to him. ”Don’t worry, your wife is fine. She’s just exhausted and fell asleep right after giving birth.” With that, she placed the baby into Du Heng’s arms. ”Hold her. A little princess, three thousand two hundred grams.”

When Du Heng saw the nurse’s hands approaching, his own hands mechanically extended, and he stiffly took the tightly wrapped bundle. Du Heng had held many children before, like Du Xuejing and Du Yi, whom he had practically raised since they were little. During his year at the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital, he had held countless babies. But this one in his arms—dark, wrinkled, with a face no bigger than his palm—made him tense up involuntarily.

I’m a dad now??

I’m a dad!!!

Du Heng didn’t know what was going through his mind at that moment, or perhaps he was thinking about so many things that he couldn’t grasp any of them. He simply grinned foolishly at the wrinkled little one in the swaddling, and then followed the nurse out in a daze.

As soon as they left the delivery room, Zhang Sumei hurried to Wu Shengnan’s side. Hearing Wu Shengnan’s soft snores, Zhang Sumei breathed a sigh of relief while muttering softly, ”This girl is really something; she can even sleep at a time like this.” Then, she went to Du Heng’s side and gently, carefully took the baby from his arms. ”Let me see my little sweetheart.”

As the weight left Du Heng’s hands, his whole body relaxed. Such a short walk, holding such a tiny, precious bundle, had made him extremely nervous.

He let out a long breath and hurried to the gurney, helping the nurse push Wu Shengnan back to the room.

Just as they reached the elevator, preparing to go back, they bumped into the Director of the Obstetrics Department, who was just stepping out.

”Director Du?”

The Director of the Obstetrics Department wasn’t female, as many assumed, but a man in his forties—one of the few male doctors in the department. The Director, surnamed Su, practiced both Chinese and Western medicine but generally leaned more towards Western medicine. He had researched many practical skills and techniques in obstetrics and was considered an absolute pillar among the directors at Good Friend Hospital.

When Du Heng saw Director Su, he knew something serious must have happened in the Obstetrics Department. However, at that moment, he was immersed in the excitement of being a new father and didn’t dwell on it. Instead, he began to thank Director Su profusely.

Director Su stopped, glanced at the baby in Zhang Sumei’s arms and then at the sleeping Wu Shengnan on the gurney. He then grabbed Du Heng’s arm. ”Come on, come with me quickly. It’ll save me a call to your department.”

Du Heng staggered as he was pulled and let out a bewildered, ”Huh?”

”The mother and child are both fine here. I’ll have the nurse take them. Let’s go see another patient together,” Director Su invited Du Heng again.

Du Heng hesitated. Even though he was a doctor, he was still an ordinary person. The thought of leaving his newborn child and his wife, who had just given birth, was difficult for him to accept at this moment.

Fortunately, Zhang Sumei spoke up. ”Stop hesitating and go do your job. Nannan and the baby are fine with me here. When we get to the room, I’ll call the nanny and have her make some porridge and bring some food over.”

Du Heng took one last glance at Wu Shengnan by the elevator and the baby in his sister-in-law’s arms. Then, he turned around and followed Director Su back towards the delivery room.

”Director Su, what’s going on?” As they walked, Du Heng began to compose himself.
