This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Wu Shengnan was currently a little annoyed with Du Heng.

He’d only been away for three days, and he was already calling almost hourly.

When we were dating, I never realized he was this clingy!

She was holding her baby, her eyes fixed on her phone. If he dares to call right now, I’ll definitely teach him a lesson. He’s so irritating!

”Sister-in-law, get in the car.”

Lost in thought, Wu Shengnan hadn’t noticed a figure appear beside her. It was Kang Zhirong, who had come to pick her up in his car.

Kang Zhirong now stood ramrod straight, sporting a slick, shiny chaebol-style haircut. He wore a sharp, tailored casual suit, and his leather shoes were polished to a blinding gleam.

This was a world of difference from the deferential, somewhat countrified man he’d been just six months prior.

More strikingly, this young man had even acquired an assistant—an exceedingly... exceedingly captivating one.

Dammit, she’s actually wearing a hip wrap skirt!

Wu Shengnan, dressed in her own loose and modest new-mother attire, couldn’t help but steal a few extra glances at Kang Zhirong’s assistant.

It wasn’t surprising that Kang Zhirong had an assistant. After all, just handling the release of Du Heng’s videos was enough to keep Kang Zhirong incredibly busy. And with numerous other miscellaneous tasks, having an assistant to help was perfectly reasonable. But she hadn’t expected the assistant to be so alluring and provocative. Still, it was none of her business; she was merely curious.

Now, hearing Kang Zhirong’s call, Wu Shengnan gave a slight smile and, holding her baby, climbed into the Benz that Du Heng had left behind in Jinzhou.

The story behind this car was actually quite interesting.

Originally, when Du Heng was leaving, he’d intended to leave the car for his big brother, Du Ping. Du Ping also liked the car, so that should have been the end of it.

However, when Du Ping found out about its fuel consumption, his desire to drive it instantly evaporated.

Even when Du Heng offered to pay for the gas, Du Ping refused, insisting on driving the third-hand car Du Heng had transferred to him.

Eventually, Du Heng stopped trying to persuade him. He knew Du Ping’s character. Having toiled as a farmer his entire life, although he now had money, the frugality and thriftiness ingrained in his bones weren’t easily changed.

Since Big Brother wouldn’t drive it, I couldn’t just leave the car in the garage, could I? Not only would it be a waste, but it might also break down if left unused for a long time.

So, Du Heng considered giving it to his brother-in-law. However, his brother-in-law had the same stance as Du Ping: he didn’t want it.

It wasn’t that he minded the fuel consumption; his main concern was that the car’s style was too conspicuous.

For someone like him, going in and out of the Provincial Department for work every day, driving such a thing would be unseemly.

With no other takers, Du Heng then thought of Dong Yuezhang and his circle.

But he was met with consistent rejection from them too.

Dong Yuezhang liked it, but the car was too flashy and didn’t suit his status, nor did he have much use for it in his daily life.

Jin Zan also liked it, but for him too, the conspicuous model and high fuel consumption were issues. Plus, he already owned a car, so he didn’t want it either.

Finally, there was Wei Kaida. He wasn’t bothered by the model or the fuel consumption, but he felt the car wasn’t prestigious enough. When Wei Kaida married, his father had bought him a car costing close to a million yuan, so he naturally looked down on Du Heng’s vehicle.

As for Wu Buwei, while he might have taken it for a spin occasionally for a change of pace, driving it regularly was out of the question. He already had his own White Dragon Horse parked in his courtyard.

And so, in the end, Kang Zhirong lucked out and got the car.

”Sister-in-law, shall we go directly to your maternal family’s place, or should we take a spin around first?” Kang Zhirong asked cheerfully after she settled in the car.

Wu Shengnan thought for a moment, glanced at the little one in her arms, and said with a hint of regret, ”Let’s go straight to my dad’s. The baby is too young; it’s better to keep her out of the wind.”

”Alright then, off we go.” Kang Zhirong started the car. ”Sister-in-law, I heard from Du that Brother Wu has become a father too?”

Wu Shengnan smiled and nodded. ”Yes, a little boy. Our Xuanxuan became a big sister right after she was born.”

At this thought, a wave of gratitude towards Du Heng washed over Wu Shengnan. If it weren’t for Du Heng, honestly, her brother wouldn’t be as motivated or as cheerful as he was now. Indeed, in the years after her brother’s injury with the Criminal Police Team and his subsequent transfer to the Provincial Department, she had rarely seen him smile; he always seemed so somber and withdrawn. More importantly, their family situation wouldn’t be as harmonious as it was today. Who knew, her elder brother and sister-in-law might even have divorced by now.

Kang Zhirong then said, ”Sister-in-law, we have a custom in Jinzhou that two mothers in their confinement period shouldn’t meet. It’s said to cause ’milk snatching’ or a ’clash.’ Are you sure it’s okay for you to go directly?”

”Milk snatching” refers to a situation where, if two mothers still in their confinement period meet unexpectedly, one might suddenly find her milk supply drying up, as if the other mother has ”stolen” her milk. A ”clash,” on the other hand, refers to the belief that both the mother and baby are quite weak during confinement. Because they’ve just gone through childbirth, they might carry ”unclean things” that could negatively affect someone even weaker, leading to issues like the new mother experiencing persistent lochia, or the newborn being easily startled and crying through the night.

These things are highly superstitious, of course, dregs of old beliefs that should be discarded. Yet, some people genuinely take them seriously. Besides, you can call it superstition, but these things do seem to happen to four or five out of every ten people involved. No one can really explain why, much like those inexplicable blisters Du Heng sometimes gets on his lip.

So, Kang Zhirong had mentioned it out of genuine concern for Wu Shengnan.

Now, with Kang Zhirong’s reminder, Wu Shengnan found herself hesitating.
