This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Kang Zhirong smiled and didn’t say anything, then excused himself and left.

Wu Shengnan immediately went back inside the house.

After chatting with her grandfather for a while, Wu Shengnan’s mobile phone rang. Seeing the name on the screen, she rolled her eyes speechlessly.

As she answered the call, she had already decided she needed to have a serious talk with Du Heng. He was just too annoying.

”Honey, I have some good news for you.” As soon as the call connected, Du Heng’s suppressed yet excited voice came through.

Wu Shengnan rolled her eyes again. He’s just trying to get close to me with some excuse. ”Alright, go on. What’s this supposedly good news that has you so excited?”

”I’ve been recommended to join the Imperial Medical Institution.”

”Really?” If Wu Shengnan hadn’t been holding the baby, she might have jumped to her feet.

Her sudden movement startled old Sir Wu Zhong, who quickly reached out. ”You reckless girl, be careful! Don’t startle Xuanxuan!”

Wu Shengnan quickly made an apologetic expression and handed the baby to Sir Wu Zhong, who beamed with delight.

”Husband, you’re not kidding, are you?” Wu Shengnan asked again, her excitement growing.

Coming from her family background, she knew exactly what Du Heng meant by this place and understood its importance.

”Of course not. How could I lie to you about something like this?” Du Heng’s voice turned serious. ”The senior who recommended me also said I should prepare myself; assignments might be coming in the next few days.”

Wu Shengnan took a deep breath, trying hard to calm her pounding heart.

Just imagining who the Imperial Medical Institution served was enough to make her tremble.

Du Heng continued, ”By the way, there are two more pieces of good news.”

”There’s more?” Wu Shengnan felt a little dizzy.

She had only been away for three days, and Du Heng was suddenly soaring. His speed was making it hard for her to keep up.

Du Heng hummed lightly. ”This senior also recommended me as Deputy Director of the Capital Acupuncture Research Institute and Deputy Director of the Capital Traditional Chinese Medicine Health Research Institute.”

Wu Shengnan was dumbfounded. After a long pause, she finally said, ”Husband, isn’t this... isn’t this too big a leap? Being recommended to the Imperial Medical Institution based on your abilities—I’m not surprised by that. But these two research institutes... I imagine they aren’t easy to get into, right? And to go straight in as Deputy Director... Is there some issue here?”

As someone within the system, Wu Shengnan understood the intricacies all too well. Du Heng was taking a huge step, so large it could be risky... no, at this pace, it could even be disastrous.

Du Heng took a couple of shallow breaths. ”At first, I couldn’t believe it either. I thought the senior was pulling my leg. But he told me the Clinic Director of the Acupuncture Research Institute is a professor from our School—the younger academician. The Clinic Director of the Health Research Institute is a student of the senior who recommended me; he himself was the previous Clinic Director. So... so... that’s how it happened.”

Wu Shengnan still felt uneasy and pressed further, ”So, what will you be doing at these two places? Are there any specific arrangements?”

”He didn’t say anything about that,” Du Heng replied quickly. ”Alright, I have to go. I need to get back to the School immediately.”

Staring at the disconnected mobile phone, Wu Shengnan was stunned.

Sir Wu Zhong was lovingly cooing to his little great-grandson. Noticing Wu Shengnan staring blankly at her mobile phone, he asked softly, ”What’s wrong?”

Wu Shengnan turned her head stiffly. Looking at her grandfather, she said, ”Grandpa, Du Heng said he’s been recommended to join the Imperial Medical Institution.”

”What?” The old Sir felt as if he’d misheard.

Wu Shengnan repeated herself mechanically.

The old Sir, holding the baby, looked steadily at his granddaughter.

He had anticipated this outcome, but he’d thought it would only be possible when Du Heng was around forty. It hadn’t even been half a year since Du Heng went to the Capital, and it was already happening?
